I don't know how much I'll be able to be on Flickr except to post some photos because my hip surgery is taking place on Feb. 9th and I have a lot of things to do. I'll stop in whenever possible but I know that I will miss a lot of photos. Right now I want to spend time getting things ready, spend time with my family, and my dogs. I hope you all understand. Hopefully I'll have a chance to let everyone know how I'm doing after I get home from the hospital. I'll do that as soon as possible. Obviously it will be awhile before I can come back to Flickr in full force. I wish you all a very nice weekend and want to thank you all for being such great friends here on Flickr. Lots of love and hugs!
I'm sorry that I am posting so many photos. I just have so many and I want to have more on here for the Cincinnati Zoo. You certainly don't have to comment on them because I can't promise that I'll be able to visit your beautiful photostreams consistently for awhile. I'll miss seeing all your beautiful photos and talking with you all. Thanks everyone!

Fourth image in my current insect series...
I found this beautiful dragonfly resting among the Astilbe flowers in our side garden. I moved very slowly as I approached and it was surprisingly compliant in allowing me to capture many good images without flying off like most of them do.
We had a hatching several days ago and these insects are flying around everywhere!
I geeked out hard watching this solo old GE throttle up. It was easy to spot the dimmed headlight and green paint pull up to the signal at A-17+593, just the other side of the tunnel. I knew what was coming and he didn't keep me waiting very long either. Hard to pick out a favorite moment in Mexico, but this might have been it.

People are not actually allowed to get into Laguna Cejar's waters.
Instead, tour agency took us to the adjacent Laguna Piedra, where we could brave the high altitude cold and get into the lukewarm water. We found a current of warm water (heated by the thermal springs), it was actually not uncomfortable.
***
These ponds have a very high salt content, about 33%, far above what we find in the sea, so when entering the water in the water you do not have to make the minimum effort to float. It's the same thing that happens in the Dead Sea, the giant saltwater lake in the Middle East.
You can enter this pond even if you can not swim, as soon as your body is in the water, you will already be floating. In ponds like this you should not dive headfirst. It is also good to avoid wetting the face, especially the eyes and mouth, due to excess salt that can be harmful.
The water in the pond is cold and hot, and this causes some people to give up bathing in it. We go in and we can ensure that after a few seconds in the water you get used to it and the temperature difference is no longer a nuisance.
The bath is refreshing, especially if you are doing a very hot afternoon like the one on the day of our tour. And the float makes the bath more fun and also relaxing, as we do not have to make any effort to stay in the water.
Un macho de esta especie que la luz que habia permitió capturar muy bien su colorido, muchas veces me salen demasiado oscuros, de todas formas hay mucha variedad en su colorido y creo que también depende de si son jovenes o ya muy volados...
A male of this species that the light that there was allowed to capture its color very well, many times they appear too dark for me, in any case there is a lot of variety in their color and I think it also depends on whether they are young or already very fly..

I was 'allowed' 3 shots...this was one of them!
I do have a few other options... but whenever I get a nice portrait of one of my kids, that's always the best pic of the day for me... it's so hard to be objective with my mommy goggles on ;)

Not allowing the dull grey white of Winter Days to depress me.I created this winter scene scene along with my camera to satisfy my love of COLOUR.
Photography allows us to capture scenes we see in real life. It's a good way to preserving our memories. This, however, isn't that. Not really. I was here, of course, standing on ground just beyond Pine Butte.
The clouds, however, were not this. I didn't superimpose them in post or anything like that. There were clouds, but they were soft and white with blue sky peaking through here and there.
I shoot almost all of my black & white with a deep yellow filter. It darkens the sky a bit and gives a feel of a bit more contrast. Most folks who use filters for such things go for the regular yellow, and that's just fine. But sometimes, when I want the sky to look a touch more dramatic than it was, I reach for the red filter.
Folks do this too. Lots of them. But I've found that just using a red filter indiscriminately can be a bit much. If everything is dramatic, nothing is actually dramatic.
So sometimes I choose it, but only sometimes (I think I used it two or three times this year so far). I'm glad I have it, but would hardly miss it if I didn't. Though it would be a shame to miss out on this bit of sky-deception.

This bunny and its buddies are everywhere in our landscape this year and are the reason for several of perennials not growing above a 6-inch height, all munched down by these culprits :(
Still, my wife and I love them, and when they allow me to capture soft and lovely images like this, the few lost flowers are worth it :)

During our visit to the LA arboretum, I was able to photograph three different bird species from my home country, India. It was amazing to see them all in one day at the park. One of the birds, a peacock, put on a special show for us. At first, I was going to walk past it, but then it fanned out its tail and did a small dance. Although there were no peahens around, the visitors by the entrance were all enamored by this beautiful display.
Sometimes being in one place and photographing one train allows you to take 2 separate shots which end up having a completely different feel. I recently posted a picture of this very train, taken from the very same tree, though more zoomed in and with a lot more smoke. A mere 150 meters later I took another picture with wider framing.
What's worth mentioning is that the train is passing near the administrative borders of the village of Lipusz. However, on the roads, the signs also display another name - Lëpùsz, in Kashubian - the local language. Such is the case in a lot of parts of Pomerania (in this particular example, only for the past 10 years or so). Meanwhile in the East you can find towns with road signs in Belarussian, and down South - in German. Kashubian influence is really strong here, and even those, who don't speak the language tend to use a couple of regional expressions (like 'jo' instead of 'tak' - meaning 'yes').
ST44-1251 here was on its last meters of the journey before terminating at Lipusz with the loaded cement train TMS 454031 from Działoszyn. The wagons were to be picked up by a SKPL SM42 to the cement plant Osława-Dąbrowa, however the line was closed that day, which prevented this from happening.

Reedham Swing Bridge, on the site of a Victorian swing bridge, is still in use at Reedham, Norfolk, England.
It carries the Wherry railway line, between Norwich and Lowestoft, across the River Yare near Reedham railway station.
The original single track bridge was commissioned by Sir Samuel Morton Peto in the 1840s to allow the passage of wherry boats, which were too tall to pass under conventional bridges. The current bridge dates from 1902–3 prior to the doubling of the track.
The bridge is operated from the 1904 Reedham Swing Bridge signal box. In a typical year, it is opened 1,300 times.

I have to get busy and write out my Christmas cards today so I'll catch up with you all a little later. Have a wonderful Monday and week everyone!
Okay, you've seen me, so go away already. Can't you see I'm hunting? You're scaring away my lunch, move along...
Thank YOU JESUS, for allowing me to find one so early this year. I think their adorable little owls. So I give credit where that credit is due, and it's not me and my ability to do anything. Yes really believe it was all the grace of God.
I was freezing in the cold winds searching for Sparrow Hawks, which I also love and with very little success I was packing it in, when for some reason I stopped to take in the view just before hitting the trail, when I happed to look down and to my left almost completely hidden in the grasses. There he stood looking up at me like I was about to step on him. How scary that must have been. Yep, it's all Jesus, every good thing is! ❤️🙏❤️
------------------------------ JESUS ✝️ SAVES-------------------------------
7 Therefore Jesus said again, "I tell you the truth, I am the gate for the sheep. 8 All who ever came before me were thieves and robbers, but the sheep did not listen to them. 9 I am the gate; whoever enters through me WILL BE SAVED. He will come in and go out, and find pasture. 10 The thief comes only to STEAL and KILL and DESTROY; I have come that they may have LIFE, and have it to the FULL. (John 10:7-10)
Jesus came to bring spiritual LIFE to the spiritually dead and set the captives FREE! FREE from RELIGION, ERROR and outright LIES, so they might serve THE LIVING GOD! In SPIRIT and in TRUTH! Because JESUS LOVES YOU! ❤️ ✝️ ❤️

The challenge was so much fun again! Since Milla is a Lab, the shot needed to be a retrieving one. When we adopted Milla at the age of one, she retrieved everything in our apartment: socks, t-shirts and of course shoes :) We decided that this isn't good behavior for a lady and thus it's generally not allowed to retrieve everything. Milla would like to thank the group for the opportunity to take our shoes again :D
Cheetahs are solitary animals , who live alone, or in two…Males can create a group of more members. They can be very close to humans and have a strong bond with them….
This one you see here, has created a strong bond with her caretaker since she was a baby in the Lion Park of Johannesburg, and also …..with me!! With me, of course, she created a bond within the 10’ I was allowed to cuddle her…I was amazed to see the taken photos of me later, where I was close to her face to face, cuddling her tenderly like a dog! It is true, our energies were especially fulfilling, and we were not afraid of each other…And , I guess, this is the secret of the whole thing…The Love Energy Field!! ❤️
It was our third attempt to finally be allowed to enter this area. May 7th is a public holiday in Kazakhstan, defender of the fatherland day. We were hoping to have found a suitable moment, with less activity and fewer staff. Oleg was on duty again, and we had already met him. This time, he said, we had good cards, with a 95% chance.
Everything dragged on forever. First, Anyar was expected back from lunch. Then Nurshan arrived. We explained our request a thousand times, showed photos, and gave Duncan's postcards to our new friends. A description of our trip was a must. Anyar drove home, got freshly made beshbarmak for us to try, and greetings from his wife. Then, finally, the liberating news: we were allowed in, for about 10 minutes. Nurshan led us, gave us instructions, and Oleg followed behind. Not across the tracks, absolutely not! The regime was very strict, and I think our escorts had great apprehensions. Rightly so, as we already know!
