A Quickie All-in-one Moleskine Diary/Sketchbook in Leather Cover

The day I decided to use the Moleskine 18 months weekly diary from July I knew I would have problem pulling out what I need from my bag. It has the same size and look as the Moleskine sketch book I'm using. Knowing that I will be using both quite often in this coming half year starting from my trip to Tokyo next week, I did something drastic in 30 minutes.

First I ruined the back of these 2 notebooks by putting 4 snaps on them so that they can stick together yet removable if I want to. Note that the two notebooks are snapped together so that the top of one is aligned with the bottom of the other. There is a good enough space in between because of the height of the snaps, so it works well to put a pen holder there. I just punched and set two eyelets to hold the broad elastic band together, then a metal wire is passed through the two eyelets to make a ring which helps to keep the elastic band in place on the spines, again this is removable if I don't need a pen holder.

Assembling it is easy, just put the pen holder in between the back of these two notebooks, snap the notebooks together and there you go. At this stage leather freak like me couldn't stop but made a cover for this so that the metal ring of the pen holder is concealed and I have the look I want.

Finally, to distinguish which side is which notebook, I stamped on the leather cover "Time" for the diary side and "Note" for the sketchbook side. Whenever I feel like using the other side, I flip the notebook vertically. The original Moleskine elastic bands can be used to enclose the leather cover but I like a clean look so most of the time they are enclosing the pages only.

You are probably wondering why there are some flying pigs on one of the Moleskines, that's a gift sketchbook from Steve Light. What's that pen you asked? Pilot 1979 Murex fountain pen, also a gift from a good friend Kelly.

An inside joke that I'll make you privvy to!

It was probably our second or third cruise that this started. We were in Curacao doing the tourist thing which is walking around the port. We came up on a shop that had a sign that said "Big Mama Sizes Available". Niccy laughed and said "That fits me"! and ever since then we've always laughed when we saw a sign that referenced plus size women.

Niccy isn't a what you'd call model on the runway and she knows she'll never be. She accepts that and I certainly do since she's beautiful to me and I don't want her to change. I like my girls with a little fat on the end just like Rodney Carrington:

A comedian that I truly find funny!

We saw this sign in Curacao and she insisted on me taking the shot so I obliged.

Like I said she's beautiful to me and that's all that matter.

A well-known artist, designer, and educator, Itten is perhaps best known for contributions to the Foundation Course (Vorkurs) at the Bauhaus in Weimar between 1919 and 1923. Born in Switzerland, Itten's early career was in primary school education but he gave it up to study fine art briefly at the École des Beaux Arts in Geneva. However, dissatisfied with the conservatism of the curriculum he went on to study mathematics and science at university before studying painting at the Stuttgart Academy from 1913 to 1916. Well aware of the avant-garde ideas of the Blaue Reiter and Cubism, he exhibited at the Sturm art gallery in Berlin. He then moved to Vienna to teach and paint at his own art school and, having been introduced to Walter Gropius by Alma Mahler (who was married to Gropius) took up a teaching post at the Bauhaus in 1919. In his classes he encouraged students to experiment with form, color, and texture but his commitment to eastern mysticism and the wearing of monk-like robes led to tensions with Gropius, the institution's director. Furthermore, in the difficult political and economic climate in early 1920s Germany Gropius came under increasing pressure to demonstrate the relevance of the Bauhaus in daily life. As a consequence, Itten's experiential and expressionist approach to creativity was increasingly at odds with Gropius' growing commitment to the machine aesthetic as a key goal of the Bauhaus's educational curriculum. On leaving the Bauhaus Itten studied philosophy in Zurich before setting up his own design school in Berlin from 1926 to 1931. He also became director of the technical school for textiles at Krefeld from 1932 to 1938. He left Germany, first working in Amsterdam and then moving to Zurich where he became the director of the Museum and School of Applied Arts from 1938 to 1953. From 1943 to 1953 he also directed the technical school for textiles and the Rietbergmuseum.

When we hit Grenada things were looking good on the weather front. It was a bit cloudy but the rain showers had passed by so hopefully we would have a dry day.

With any luck it was a great day for these folks who were headed out on a tour of some sort, but we definitely had different plans. We'd been here before and we knew where we wanted to go and what we wanted to do....

PS:

For those in the Show Your EXIF group you should note that the actual lens used is a Tamron AF 18-200mm F/3.5-6.3 Di-II VC All-in-One Zoom for Canon APS-C Digital SLR. For some crazy reason it always shows up as a Canon TS-E 90mm f/2.8, a lens I've never owned or used!

I installed a "new" elementary lab last week. These two teacher computer are the best of the iMac lab and, believe it or not, are the best iMacs in the lab. The rest of the lab has DV400's and old try loaders. Even one Rev A, that had a four gig hard drive (naturally it had to be replaced in order to fit the entire image). The lab will be used to deliver primary software to students. It's amazing that these machines (some 7 years old) can run panther and all the software that we needed them to. There's something to be said about old technology and making it work on a limited budget. The principal was glowing.

Niccy and I just got back from a transatlantic cruise so I've finally got some shots to post!

One thing you don't have to ever worry about on a cruise is starving. There are always plenty of dining venues included in the price as well as several pay extra places such as Rudi's Sel De Mer:

Rudi’s Sel de Mer is an intimate brasserie featuring classic French dishes reimagined with contemporary flair. Menu selections include whole Dover sole meunière with shaved pink Himalayan sea salt, oysters on the half shell, fruits de mer, and salt-crust baked branzino, as well as favorites such as steak frites, duck cassoulet and coq au vin.

www.hollandamerica.com/en/us/onboard-experiences/dining/s...

They DO NOT serve breakfast at Rudi's Sel De Mer but we were able to wrangle it!

Because of Niccy's ever watchful eye we were able to get into Club Orange on this cruise. Club Orange is a way to experience a new level of luxury, from priority check-in and disembarkation to premium dining amenities. Club Orange benefits include a complimentary stateroom upgrade, a special event chosen by the captain and priority check-in and disembarkation. I don't ask her how she got us in but it was definitely nice.

Anyhow, we went down the the Club Orange Dining Room for breakfast one morning to find it was chock a block full. The hostess (Ross) asked if we would like to have a table down at Rudi's since it was an overflow for Club Orange. We said sure and that's how we had breakfast at Rudi's!

Funny part was seeing people walking by and staring, probably wondering how we got in there for breakfast.

Just a note, we definitely didn't eat Dinner here, we're both too fiscally conservative!

It has been a while since I took the group photo of my babies. With the new additions of M42-Vivitar 135/2.8 and M42-Carl zeiss Jena 135/3.5, decided to take shot at them. My wife saw all this effort and gave a different smile and said, "Are you selling them on ebay?, Good for you." I gave a wicked smile and continued taking the shot. Taken with Canon A520 P&S.

Large on black; Not much of a quality though!

Tried some individual shots below (Taken with macro takumar which will miss in the list)

From the collection of Jessica H. Jaeger.

I got this 17'' iMac G4 for £29.00 on ebay at that price I just had to have it.

I've upgraded the ram to 1GB and I've also added a faster 80GB Hard drive. I did add a 120GB, but it refused to work in the iMac despite working fine in my Power Mac G4 tower.

Niccy and I just got back from a transatlantic cruise so I've finally got some shots to post!

I was spending some time lounging by the Lido Pool when this young lady caught my eye. She was walking around with her phone (notice the multitude of lenses) in a gimbal, ear buds in place, and babbling to herself so I imagine she was shooting a vlog entry for her millions of billions of gazillions of sheep, er...I mean "followers" to lust over and envy?

She was pretty thorough, covered every inch of the area with what seemed to be a non stop commentary, at least her mouth was moving the whole time. It might have been witty comments on how exciting her life was or it might have been gratuitous mastication (gum chewing), not sure and not important!

She was walking up some stairs to the next deck when I got this shot. I saw her pause when she reached the top to give an overview of the area, giving me a chance to fire off a couple of quick snaps like this then set my camera down and give her a friendly photographer to photographer wave or two.

If you should get lucky and happen to see her masterpiece on one of the many social media outlets you should pay careful attention when she's showing an overview of the pool area and surrounding deck. If you should happen to see an old fellow flailing about like a wacky inflatable man at a used car lot you can rest assured you've caught this beautiful man in action.

I hope she appreciates the effort!
