Return car ferry crossing from Mallorca (Majorca) to Valencia — followed by 140 km drive southwest to the mountainous interior of Alicante province.
After a fine day with mostly clear blue skies, I liked how the vivid orange of the fireball sun contrasted with the accumulating dramatic grey cloud over the coastline. The low angle of the light also made the clear waters of the Mediterranean Sea look black at this time of the evening, a good match for the silhouetted guard rail, mast detail and secondary radar.
1937 Bentley 4-1/4 Litre All Weather by Vanden Plas.
Rolls-Royce acquired Bentley Motors from Walter Owen Bentley in 1931 taking the company in an entirely new direction with the creation of the "Silent Sports Car" or Derby Bentley. The chassis was built at the Rolls-Royce and Bentley Motors Works in Derby, England and bodied by Vanden Plas, prominent British coachbuilders.
A total of 1234 4-1/4 Litre cars were produced between 1936 and 1939.
A characteristic of the Vanden Plas All Weather is that the doors are hung from the 'B' post and the hood, when folded, sits above the level of the doors. The All Weather Tourer also has roll-up windows and a disappearing B pillar. Only 19 All Weather 4-1/4 Litre Bentleys were built by Vanden Plas.
"Red and green shall ne'er be seen". All the same, with the net and geometry of the shadow of the post, I liked their eye-catching combination on this basketball pitch in the ample sports facilities of the local recreation centre.
According to AI this is a shelf cloud because of:
1. Its horizontal wedge shape**: a long, shelf-like or wedge appearance that extends across the horizon.
2. Attached to a potential storm base in the darker cloud mass above it, forming a continuous structure.
3. Leading edge position, typical for shelf clouds that form along the gust front.
4. Smooth, laminar appearance to its underside – a smooth, stratified look common to shelf clouds and formed by outflow.
5. Not isolated or localized: unlike a wall cloud, which would be a more isolated, low area beneath a part of a storm, this cloud extends horizontally across much of the visible sky.
Shelf clouds come about when cool outflow air from a thunderstorm lifts warm, moist air ahead of the storm, causing condensation along that boundary.

[EN] TATA engine 823 is with some open steel cariages on its way from Beverwijk Hoogovens Centraal towards the port. It was quite a lucky shot as we drove towards Velsen-Noord and encountered this train at a level crossing. Luckily, we were able to overtake the train so I could take a second picture.

In Gustav Kroboth was a skilled engineer who had built his own motor around 1920 and a small car in 1928. After the war he moved to the rural Bavarian countryside, where he salvaged tank and airplane wrecks to build what he needed. He built poppyseed grinders and wooden toys, which financed the building of a motorcycle-like scooter.
This led to a design for an "Allweather scooter" which was on display at the Motorcycle Show in September 1954.
The little machine was well received. The sociable side-by-side body sat on a central tube chassis with transverse leaf sptings at the front and a longitudinal one in back. The motor was from Fichtel & Sachs, brakes from ATE, steering from ZF (with a column shift- then the height of fashion) and a windshield from Volkswagen.
Numerous offers of financial investment resulted, but one by one they all came to naught. The trend was to bigger cars, and six months and 55 cars later it was all over. Kroboth found new life as a driving instructor.
