Haven't been out for a while with the ol' Canon, so I went through my archives, and thought I'd post an oldie goldie from the past.

Since it was a Canadian who invented basketball, this was my homage to James Naismith, and for all of those who shoot for the stars ;)

I saw this on our way to Phoenix Symphony Hall to watch the Phoenix Symphony Orchestra presentation of Beethoven's 9th Symphony. A nice reminder of the 2011 Major League Baseball All-Star Game.

The plaque on the sculpture reads:

Cacti on Parade

One of four original designs commissioned by Major League Baseball to commemorate the 2011 All-Star Game hosted by the Arizona Diamondbacks and the City of Phoenix.

Major League Baseball and the host Arizona Diamondbacks populated key locations throughout Phoenix with thirty-six varieties of life-sized MLB-themed Saguaro statues in celebration of the 2011 MLB All-Star Week festivities which took place July 8th – 12th at Chase Field in Phoenix, Arizona. The Saguaro Cactus statues were placed in high-profile areas throughout Phoenix, AZ. The statues represented each of the 30 teams, the American League, the National League and four All-Star Saguaros.

Minnesota Twins Starting Pitcher Jose Berrios was the lone Minnesota Twins player in this years MLB All Star Game in Washington DC. This was Jose's first nod to the game after posting a 9-7 record with a 3.68 ERA over 127.1 innings in the first half of the regular season. During the game Jose pitched one inning only allowing one walk.

I have thousands of these, but not sure when I'll get a chance to upload any so here are a few excerpts.

This was given to passengers on Caltrain in the morning. I saw a lot of people, myself included, giving the cards to homeless people outside of the 4th & Townsend station. It was a good day for them.

Actually, the Red Sox pitcher resembles a peacock in the right light, doesn't he?

Patterned shirts were popular in 2013, though not nearly as prevalent as they were in 2012. Here's the Toronto Blue Jay star looking like he's ready for a CPA shift of crushing numbers on casual Friday.

There's an interesting story behind this ball.

Although we saw Rollie Fingers at FanFest on Friday, we did not wait on the autograph line. But yesterday we were tailgating at Citi Field before the All Star Game. Some guys parked near us and were hungry, so they asked my husband if they could pay him to cook some food for them. My husband lives to tailgate, and was happy to fire up the grill but didn't want to take any money for it. So in gratitude, these men gave my husband this baseball that Rollie Fingers autographed for them at FanFest. It became a much more special souvenir of the day than a couple of dollars would have been.

Hey look! It's Ray Charles! Actually, no, it's just Yadi Molina taking a page from the David Ortiz school of media day availability.

To celebrate the 2008 Major League Baseball All Star Game, which took place in Yankee Stadium, in its final season, on July 15, 2008, Major League Baseball launched "Statues on Parade." Forty-two replicas of the Statue of Liberty were stationed around the city leading up to the game--each uniquely designed with bold graphics and colors featuring each of the 30 Major League Baseball clubs, the Brooklyn Dodgers, the New York Giants, the American League, the National League, four All-Star statues and statues commemorating the final season of Yankee Stadium and Shea Stadium. The 8½ feet tall, 250-pound statues are made of resin and rest on a 530-pound cement base.

The All Star Game #2 (AL/NL) statue stood outside FOX News Studios at 1211 Avenue of the Americas.
