Looks like the chef was doing a bit of multitasking!
One of the standard things they do on a cruise is give you a cooking demonstration. It gives the chefs a chance to show off their skills and it's an advert for all the specialty restaurants onboard the ship.
The demonstration we saw was held in the Atrium, at the spot where they usually have someone playing some light jazz in the evening. The chef saw the piano and decided to whip out a little tune while he was waiting for his presentation to start.
Niccy and I just got back from a 2 week cruise down in the Caribbean, a trip that was supposed to be in the UK but thanks to the whole covid fiasco that was not meant to be. We were on the P&O Britannia and as we quickly found out we were the only Americans aboard! We had a good time, got to see some new ports and enjoyed the weather.
It's a fairly noisy shot but my camera isn't known to be the best when it comes to a high ISO. Thinking back I suppose I could've fired off the onboard flash to fool the camera since the light wouldn't have made any difference in the shot.
Denz was busy restoring one of the Hewlett-Packard Model 85 portable computers in the Computermuseum Arnhem hardware collection.
This unit's tape drive was broken, due to the rubber drive wheel being reduced to a sticky gunk. He used solvent to clean the mess and fashioned a new drive wheel out of silicone hose/tubing.
A Deadhead or Dead head is a fan of the American rock band the Grateful Dead. This is the modern day version.
If you're curious here's an interesting Wikipedia entry on the whole phenomenon:
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Deadhead
Part of the reason we left our tranqul settting at Fort Tuthill and moved to a better place. There was a huge cloud of "Smoke" that wafted it's way over the dividing line (fence) and invaded our space. Smelled like someone was burning a hippie!
BTW, please don't zoom in to the lady on the left and her legs. I'm not sure that even a medical professional could explain it!
Niccy and I just got back from a transatlantic cruise so I've finally got some shots to post!
Here you see:
2 Veterinarians
2 Microbiologists
1 WOC RN
Out of the shot is myself, a self styled Jack of All Trades and pretty good music guesser. Did you know that the original band that did the song "Venus" was named Shocking Blue? I did.
Why the heck couldn't we win at Trivia???
This was our trivia team on the cruise. We thought we had the bases pretty well covered when it came to questions that you will only hear if you attend a pub quiz or a trivia session but Nay Nay. It seems like we came up on the short end of the stick every time, always by one or two questions.
One of the great things about cruising is the opportunity to meet people from different backgrounds and experiences, make a connection with them and have a great time while doing so. All the folks in this shot (Carol, Barb, Niccy, Mike, Marie, and myself are the best of the best and we (NIccy and I) are looking forward to seeing them all in the future!

Like a moth to a flame, Todd was drawn to the Fire Truck!
This past weekend the Fiesta De Los Vaqueros was held in Tucson, Also know as the Tucson Rodeo. My lodge building:
www.facebook.com/nelsoncbledsoe74/
is directly across the street from the rodeo grounds so every year we park cars in our lot as a fundraiser. All the money raised goes back to the charities we support in the community.
Anyhow, back to Todd....
Chief Todd Canales is the 355th CES fire chief at DAVIS-MONTHAN AIR FORCE BASE, Tucson AZ:
www.dm.af.mil/Media/News/Article/2315464/fire-department-...
and one of my brothers in the lodge. When he saw the Tucson city fire truck coming down the road he had to run out and stop traffic for them so that they could get through. I guess it's that universal bond that firefighters all around the world share.
We were booked for 3 days but only stayed for one. Why you ask????
We left Payson and headed to our final (we thought) destination, the Fort Tuthill Luke AFB Recreation Area.
It's a campground that is ran by the Air Force, open to active duty personnel, retired personnel, and disabled veterans (30% or more). Really nice place up in the woods, quiet and secure. At least we thought so when we booked.
Come to find out there was a 3 day Electronic Music Festival at the Pepsi Amphitheater (next to the campground) the same weekend we decide to stay. Had it been an evening concert we probably would have stayed but 3 days of EDM combined with the "people" that were attending the festival was a bit too much.
If you're a seasoned citizen like myself you'll probably understand the following, if you're not just ask your favorite "boomer" what I'm talking about. Imagine spending 3 days amongst a modern version of the "Deadheads"....Not at all what we planned on so we wound up pulling out after the first night.
We'll be back there next year but you can rest assured that we'll be checking the amphitheater schedule before we book again.
Not for Tourist comsumption!
As we wandered around the distillery in La Crucecita I saw this interesting display of jugs and bottles. I asked the tour guide about this and he said this was for the locals to come and get their refills, not for the tourists. Evidently tourists have to pay extra to have their kerosene put into fancy bottles?
I'm guessing that Mexico doesn't have an equivalent office to our BATF, here in America they'd be banging on the door to get their pound of flesh. Welcome to Mexico, aka the Wild, Wild West!
A Quickie All-in-one Moleskine Diary/Sketchbook in Leather Cover
The day I decided to use the Moleskine 18 months weekly diary from July I knew I would have problem pulling out what I need from my bag. It has the same size and look as the Moleskine sketch book I'm using. Knowing that I will be using both quite often in this coming half year starting from my trip to Tokyo next week, I did something drastic in 30 minutes.
First I ruined the back of these 2 notebooks by putting 4 snaps on them so that they can stick together yet removable if I want to. Note that the two notebooks are snapped together so that the top of one is aligned with the bottom of the other. There is a good enough space in between because of the height of the snaps, so it works well to put a pen holder there. I just punched and set two eyelets to hold the broad elastic band together, then a metal wire is passed through the two eyelets to make a ring which helps to keep the elastic band in place on the spines, again this is removable if I don't need a pen holder.
Assembling it is easy, just put the pen holder in between the back of these two notebooks, snap the notebooks together and there you go. At this stage leather freak like me couldn't stop but made a cover for this so that the metal ring of the pen holder is concealed and I have the look I want.
Finally, to distinguish which side is which notebook, I stamped on the leather cover "Time" for the diary side and "Note" for the sketchbook side. Whenever I feel like using the other side, I flip the notebook vertically. The original Moleskine elastic bands can be used to enclose the leather cover but I like a clean look so most of the time they are enclosing the pages only.
You are probably wondering why there are some flying pigs on one of the Moleskines, that's a gift sketchbook from Steve Light. What's that pen you asked? Pilot 1979 Murex fountain pen, also a gift from a good friend Kelly.

Who will ever come to bring me out of my drowned world ?"
"Quel giorno tu sei venuto, mi hai avvolto nelle tue bianche ali e mi hai salvato dal mio mondo sommerso...e ancora stiamo volando!"

Folks on this trip did like dressing up for dinner!
Once again, the ship's photographers giving me the chance to get a shot that I like!
This was the first formal night onboard the Britannia and people were dressed to the nines.
Sailing with Holland America we're used to some folks dressing for formal nights, in fact we've done it ourselves but this was completely different. I would say the majority of the guests were wearing fancy dress and making Niccy and I look like the schlubs by the side of the road.
I'll agree that it's nice to dress for dinner every now and then but not so much when we're on a cruise. This is our time to get away from formalities and convention, time to hang out and just enjoy life without any expectations. I've got Niccy to finally understand that we don't know any of these people and we'll never see them again so there's no one to impress here. It goes against her being a professional and always trying to present a professional image though. You can call me a bad influence, I call my self a realist!
...er... then... er... it's entirely possible you might become a new super hero.
Yup.
Matron's given me permission... all I need to do is formulate an amazing new identity so I can begin my crusade of thwarting the bad guys...
Any suggestions?
Anyway, I know you'd love to:

The Tower Complex, Great Yarmouth, is an all-in-one leisure & entertainment complex. Fun family activities, Jurassic Journey, a viewing tower, eateries, clubs & bars and live entertainment are all under one roof.
Watering Hole:
(Noun)
A social gathering place, such as a bar or saloon, where drinks are served.
It seems that the water faucet @ Tuthill had a bit of permanent leak which was well known by the locals. We had birds, bees, and a squirrel that stopped by to quench their parched throats.
I'm not photographing bees and the squirrel must've been a tweaker (as squirrels seem to be), so this is the best I got. My usual shooting style, see something and fire away!
BTW, I have NO idea what kind of bird this is, my guess is a Black Bird???
This is what you get when you take the road less traveled!
I've got to credit Niccy with this shot, if not for her I wouldn't have got it.
For some reason she decided she wanted to stray off the paved path and have a look over the edge. Me being the dutiful husband decided to follow along so that I'd be able to identify the spot where she tumbled over the edge. Boy was I surprised....
Looking over the edge she said "look over there...". Sitting there were a couple of California Condors, just hanging out and enjoying the view. I fired off a couple of shots, this was the best of that series. There were a couple of others hanging out in an old tree, you can see them in the previous shot.
n 1982 there were only 22 California Condors left in the world. In 1992, when the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS), with its public and private partners, began reintroducing captive-bred condors to the wild. In 2001 the first wild nesting occurred in Grand Canyon National Park since re-introduction. In 2002 there were only 8 pairs of wild nesting birds population-wide. In 2008, for the first time since the program began, more California condors were flying free in the wild than in captivity. Today there are nearly 500 – more than half of them flying free in Arizona, Utah, California, and Baja Mexico.
Just because you're on a holiday doesn't mean you can't learn something along the way!
If we take a tour when we're on a cruise Niccy tries her best to book something with a cultural aspect to it. This isn't always possible but it worked out well in Bonaire.
After seeing the flamingos our tour took us to the Mangazina di Rei Learning Center:
www.mangazinadirei.org/index.php?lc=en
where we had an opportunity to learn a bit about the history and culture of Bonaire.
What we liked about this tour is that it was a "hands on" tour, meaning that we were able to be active participants in the activities they had to offer instead of just standing idly by and watching. We learned a bit about how their traditional music came about, a bit about their agricultural practices, and the different food offerings the island has.
If you look at their website:
www.mangazinadirei.org/index.php?lc=en
you'll see that they have a lot of programs for children, trying to help save the old ways and instill a bit of knowledge and pride in their culture. We appreciate this and it would be nice to see more places like this, preserving a piece of yesterday for the generations of tomorrow.
It's been said that if you find a job that you love you'll never work a day in your life!
As we were headed back aboard the ship in Antigua I happened to see these fellows out performing some sort of ship maintenance so I fired off a couple of shots. Evidently they saw me and obliged me with a smile.
I would imagine they're probably thinking "Why is this crazy tourist taking a picture of us" and had I met them while aboard I would have gladly told them this is my way of honoring the job they do to make my holiday a success..
When you take a cruise holiday your every need is catered to and you've got nothing to worry about.
Sometimes it's easy to forget that there are a LOT of of people both in the front and back of the house that make things happen for your dream vacation to be the best it can be. Folks that aren't on holiday, they're working at their jobs to provide for their families back home.
If you should ever go on a cruise I hope that you won't forget these folks and will let them know that you appreciate the hard work they put in to make things easy for you. They bust their butts so that you don't have to.
A bigger hard drive is better than a smaller one. See a trend here?
The iMac's hard drive isn't user-upgradeable, so you must make a tough decision about hard drive size up front. You can choose a 500 GB or 1 TB hard drive, or go for broke and get a 2 TB hard drive.
Remember, you won't be able to easily change the internal hard drive later, so pick the largest size you can comfortably afford. If cost is really an issue, don't feel you have to blow the budget up front. You can always add an external hard drive later, although that somewhat defeats the purpose of an all-in-one computer.
More iMac's and desks are better than one. Think different.

Niccy and I packed up the family (Tater Tot and Mushi-Mushi) and headed out on our first adventure!
We took the RV on a short shakedown cruise over to San Diego, specifically Point Loma Naval Base.
There's a nice camping spot on the base, right on the water. No electric, no water, but since we're self contained it wasn't a problem We spent a couple of days doing absolutely nothing except watching the world pass us by. Exactly the kind of experience we were looking for.

For those in the Show Your EXIF group you should note that the actual lens used is a Tamron AF 18-200mm F/3.5-6.3 Di-II VC All-in-One Zoom for Canon APS-C Digital SLR. For some crazy reason it always shows up as a Canon TS-E 90mm f/2.8, a lens I've never owned or used!
Why don't you put him on the ground and slowly back away.....
Every island has a sculpture in the cruise port that spells out the name of the island so that you can get your perfect social media shot and become famous. Frankly, I find them boring and if you look you'll see the way to get the good shot is to have your model laying on the ground in front of the sculpture. Either that or lay yourself on the ground with a real wide lens and shoot up at your model, something that most won't do.
While I'm not a fan of the sign, I am a fan of the people looking to get that "perfect shot to post". People line up to get a picture there and while most do the same old stand in front of it there's always a couple of folks who try to get creative. Those are the ones that I like to watch.
I think this shot expresses exactly what I'm talking about so Thank You to the goofballs who are trying to be original. You may not be Instagram or TikTok famous but you'll definitely be seen on Flickr!

As I type this I'm in negotiations with Niccy about purchasing this place but she's being stubborn and saying NO! I don't understand why.
I've got a great argument for buying with some salient points but she refuses to believe that it would be advantageous for me to sit on the balcony in my underwear with a 600mm (or more) lens, drinking margaritas and shooting ship shots all day.
Yes, I've pointed out that Walmart and Sam's Club are just a quick boat ride across the bay and there's a really nice pool so there's no need to get in the ocean (where fish pee) when you want to swim.
I told her there's a private elevator so no need to share air with the commoners and it's gated so no worries about burglars getting in and stealing my 600mm (or more) lens. Yet she still says NO! I don't understand why.
