So; I said hello👋, & went about searching for my X, & my father, again. This may have been, as far back as 2011. I've searched, & searched, & searched, for something ( or something-something), for some number of years, now. In my dreams, & in actual existence (if, there is, even, a difference). I have searched for you, in my dreams. I did not find you, then; how-ever, I did see you, sort of on the periphery of the darkness, in your neighbourhood, watching👀 me, as I searched, for you; aloneℹ️1️⃣. I did find you once, at your apartment, in the same dream. You were; nonchalant; disaffected by, or through, my search. & then; you were gone again. I have been to this location, before. It is akin, or a-kin, to #NewYorkCity; how-ever, more akin to the near future, & different, altogether. I have been here, in my dreams, many times; both w/ my friends, & by, or through, myself. You might call this place, #Caprica, or #CapricaCity. Now; I am here again, and you👩👩 💃🔥💃♨️ are in this place, w/ your husband👈👨. And he👉👨, & I👆; we just had a talk, and I👆 alluded to the fact, that I know, some people, who have had this feeling💔, before. And he thought🤔💭 about what I said, & left🏪🏬. So; I went back to my guest🐱 room🌇, and found your other cat🐈, which had been w/ me all night🌌🌠🌃 long⌛️. I was dressed👕; and we2️⃣📗 (your cat, or #familiar🐈🐈⬛), went out🌅, onto the balcony. Alina Habba is one of the litany of lawyers Donald Trump has hired to help him with his legal issues. It seems there is a revolving door for his legal team; fresh additions arrive weekly as others take their leave. I’m sure it’s hard to advise a client who only wants to hear what he wants to hear, no matter what legal jeopardy that might expose him to.
Even though Habba is not representing the former president in the case Special Counsel Jack Smith has filed, she was outside the Washington, DC courthouse where his arraignment took place talking to the press about the political motivation behind the charges. This was Trump’s third indictment, this time for “Conspiracy to defraud the United States,” “Conspiracy to corruptly obstruct and impede the January 6 proceedings,” and “A conspiracy against the right to vote and to have one’s vote counted.”
Like many of Trump’s supporters, she tried to make a case that this was a Free Speech issue guaranteed by the First Amendment. However, he is not being charged for what he said but for what he did to obstruct the peaceful transition from one administration to another. Habba attempted to convince us politics were behind Trump’s indictments by linking them to Hunter Biden’s legal issues, saying, “Trump’s indictments have all happened around the same time new revelations about Hunter Biden came out.”
In an interview on Fox News, Habba said, “This is what happens when you’re winning in the polls and the Democrats can’t win.” She added Trump would never do what he’s being accused of. “He’s the most ethical American I know.”
Americans have lost confidence in their government. We no longer trust our legislators and the Supreme Court to solve our country’s problems: income inequality, affordable health care, a woman’s right to decide what’s best for her health, the economy, and climate change. Governance has become a series of battles. It’s no longer just political ideology. We are at war over cultural issues while our politicians ignore our basic needs. And we’ve lost faith in our country’s institutions when ersatz news organizations like Fox knew Donald Trump lost the election but promoted voter fraud to get ratings.
The morals of our GOP legislators and their sycophants are just as important as their economic policy. How can we trust a party that Alex Patton, a Florida-based Republican consultant and pollster, has characterized as a party that “has become mean and driven by emotion on whom we dislike.”? “But,” he says, “that is the driving force in American politics right now.” That is the driving force of the GOP, not the Democrats. This is not an example of the equality of “bothsidesism.”
In my essay, “ It’s Time to Release Our Own Kraken!" I outlined the history of the Republican Party’s “below the belt” tactics. They continue to be underhanded to this day. But with the low level of civility in our present polarized country, many Republican legislators now in office have hit new ethical lows.
As a visual artist who has spent over a decade creating posters about the sorry state of American political discourse, this year I began a new series of portraits, "Faces of the Republican Party." The men and women in this series deserve to be taken to task for their unwillingness to compromise, belief in conspiracy theories, and disdain for the LGBTQ+ community, women’s rights, and our children’s education. The purpose of our government is to solve our nation’s problems. It’s not a place for personal vendettas or manufactured cultural issues.
“Faces of the Republican Party” is not a partisan series of portraits. Merriam-Webster defines the word as “a firm adherent to a party, faction, cause, or person, especially one exhibiting blind, prejudiced, and unreasoning allegiance.” The people depicted in these images are the partisans. Instead, my series is a documentary and op-ed showcasing the facts in 2022. All of them had a hand in trying to overthrow the government. These images are MAGA Republicans who put their blind allegiance to Donald Trump and their careers ahead of the needs of the American people.
Republicans are perfect examples of Patton’s “driving force.” This force is dirty, mean, misogynistic, selfish, and wastes our tax dollars. These people are just a small sampling of individuals responsible for the loss of credibility and faith in America’s institutions. And worse, they couldn’t care less.
