In Marunouchi, in the middle of Tokyo, they had this year put up this Christmas tree. And it's decorated with Dala horses. That wooden horse is not just a very Swedish symbol, but they actually come from the same region of Sweden as I was born in (and I got one with custom made decorations when I got married)!

(The sign next to the tree claimed that the Dala horse was not just a toy but a also a symbol of good luck. Never heard that one before - but it's a nice though!)

Vapour trails? Or a falling (or maybe rising) 🌟☄️? Make a wish!

A fun snap which I've taken last week at "our" Christmas tree in front of our former townhall (at the moment still used as a home for refugees, but the townhall is also being extensively renovated for the tax investigation which will move in next year). Why "our" tree? Since 2005 my mother (please check out her stream: magritknapp) collects money for a 10 meter (32 feet) high Christmas tree which is put up on our townsquare every year. The tree is exclusively paid from donations by local businesses, residents, and the vendors on our weekly market that is also located on the townsquare. Usually, there will be a small festivity on the Friday before 1st Sunday in Advent where the tree is illuminated for the first time, but this year, we've cancelled the illumination for obvious reasons and simply switched the lights on. Our tree is not only adorned with traditional Christmas baubles, but also by (themed) wish cards made by children of a nearby elementary school, and cards with the names of the donors which we make ourselves; this year the laminator broke – so we had to iron them ;).

Sad as the overall situation is we had a very nice encounter last week when we went there with a small ladder to attach a few missing donor cards. When we approached the tree, a little girl (maybe 4 yrs.) stormed past me singing "Oh Tannenbaum" at the top of her voice. She was out and about with her toddler brother and her grandmother and they were eager to inspect the Christmas tree. And while my mother talked to the kids' grandmother (she told my mom that she also volunteered as a hire grandma), I was up on the ladder, and the very talkative little girl buttonholed me about the donors' cards ("What is written there?"), and why we attached them to the tree, and what those "thingies" were I attached them with (cable ties) ;) I also told her about the wish cards (which had not been attached by the school children, yet), and she asked if she could make a wish card, too, and when I said "Yes, of course", she declared that she would use pink paper ("Pink is my favourite colour!"). When she noticed the red logo on the ladder she also declared that "Red is my favourite colour!". She also showed me her "precious crystals" (glass stones she had gotten on that day), and nearly lost one when she dropped it. Before we parted, my mother gave her two cable ties for her own wish card :)

As for the image: As I wrote, it's a mere snapshot; When I looked up I noticed the plane, so I had to react fast to include it into the photo. No image for Sliders Sunday, because I wanted to keep it simple and minimalist.

Ein simpler, schneller Schnappschuss, den ich letzte Woche an "unserem" Weihnachtsbaum vor dem Rathaus Friedenau gemacht habe. Warum "unser" Baum? Seit 2005 sammelt meine Mutter (ihr Stream: magritknapp) das Geld für den Baum bei Friedenauer Geschäftsleuten, Anwohnern und den Markthändlern des Wochenmarkts auf dem Platz vor dem Rathaus. Der 10 Meter hohe Baum wird ausschließlich aus diesen Spenden finanziert. Normalerweise veranstalten wir immer am Freitag vor dem 1. Advent eine kleine Feier zur Illumination des Baumes, die dieses Jahr natürlich asufallen musste; wir haben die Lichterketten nach dem Schmücken einfach angeschaltet. Der Baum wird auch nicht nur mit Kugeln geschmückt, sondern im unteren Bereich auch mit Wunschkarten (nach einem vorgegebenen Thema) von Kindern einer Grundschule in der Nachbarschaft (man kann den Baum nämlich nicht bis ganz unten mit Kugeln schmücken – die werden, leider, leider, schlicht geklaut) und darüber dann mit "Spenderkarten", die wir selber herstellen; dieses Jahr ging dann kurzfristig das Laminiergerät kaputt, sodass wir die Folie aufbügeln mussten ;)

Misslich, wie die Situation dieses Jahr zwar ist, hatten wir doch letzte Woche eine sehr nette Begegnung am Baum, als wir mit einer kleinen Leiter dort waren, um noch einige der Spenderkarten anzubringen. Als wir uns dem Baum näherten, stürmte ein kleines Mädchen (ca. 4 Jahre alt) an mir vorbei, lauthals "Oh Tannenbaum" singend. Sie war zusammen mit ihrem kleinen Bruder und ihrer Oma dort, um sich den Baum anzusehen. Das kleine Mädchen war so gar nicht schüchtern und fragte mich sogleich über die Spenderkarten aus: "Was steht da drauf? Und was sind das da für Dinger?!?" – sie meinte die Kabelbinder, mit denen die Karten am Baum befestigt werden ;) Als ich ihr von den Wunschkarten der Grundschulkinder erzählte, fragte sie auch sogleich, ob sie auch eine Karte machen könne (natürlich ja) und hatte auch schon gleich sehr konkrete Vorstellungen: "Ich male die Karte auf rosa Papier. Rosa ist meine Lieblingsfarbe!" Rot offenbar auch, denn als sie das rote Logo auf der Leiter entdeckte, erklärte sie mir voller Überzeugung: "Rot ist meine Lieblingsfarbe!" Zum Abschluss haben wir ihr dann noch zwei Kabelbinder für ihre Wunschkarte mitgegeben.
