at hannover airport, a pair of maintenance employees engage in repair work on the automatic doors, a crucial task ensuring smooth passage for travelers. their silhouettes are framed by the doorway, tools in hand, against the backdrop of a busy terminal outside. this moment captures the essential yet often unseen efforts that maintain the airport's rhythm. their focus and coordination reflect the dedication behind the scenes, keeping the flow of movement uninterrupted and safe for everyone passing through.

On Saturday 9th August 2008 the east coast of Ireland received an entire months rainfall (based on Met. Eireann average rainfall figures), in just two hours. Flooding was widespread, and Dublin City was paralysed for hours. Here Summerhill garage AV118 negotiates one of the worst floods in Dublin City in living memory, enroute Dublin airport to the City Centre

COVID-19 & Social responsibility . Ireland is no different to any major country at the moment. We have been asked as a preventive measure to confine journeys to essential ones only. We are told each and every one of us can assist. Some of the pictures shared in this series were recorded outside of what would be my personal confinement zone in leisure terms. Like so many contacts on Flickr I work in transport and am classified as an 'essential' worker. As such I travel to, and through Dublin airport frequently. Any photograph in this series is posted with nothing but the utmost respect to those worldwide whom have lost their lives to this silent killer. Any of us could fall victim to it.

West Midlands Travel for a while offfered an innovative fast "Airbus" service linking the Airport, NEC and Birmingham City Centre. It was a premium fare service (£3 single) which presumably was aimed at competing with taxis. There were at least two buses in different liveries on this service.

According to that fount of all knowledge, 'Bus Lists on the Web', AZD 167 was a 1971 Van Hool Re-body of a 1964 Leyland Leopard PSU3/4 chassis. Originally, I'd thought this too to be a Worldmaster, but it seems not. The CIE Tours liveried coach was seen working to Dublin Airport from 'Busaras', the City's central bus station. The picture was taken on one of those spectacular 'Day trips' which were possible by rail and sea from Crewe at minimal cost. The fare unbelievably at the time included a bottle of Irish whisky, and a bottle of wine... which could be sold upon one's return to a friend or family member for the price of your return fare!

I think that this would have been taken about 1980.

JOJ 261 is waiting to be taken out by it's driver from Yardley Wood garage. It will work the new one man operated 4 service. This bus, 2261, was a rather special bus, it was fitted with roof boards that said "AIR SERVICES BUS City Air Terminal - Elmdon Airport" It ran from Birmingham city centre along the Coventry road and out to what is now Birmingham International airport. The vehicle was a Leyland-MCW Olympic. Photo 1965

Lothian 437 (SA15 VTT) and 901 (SN08 BXP) in Airport shuttle mode on The Mound, Edinburgh, 20/07/2017.

Barcelona Airport has a rail connection to the city, but the Aerobus service has a higher profile serving as it does both terminals while the train runs only to Terminal 2. So if you arrive at Terminal 1 as I did you have a choice of taking a shuttle bus to T2 or just getting on the Aerobus sitting right outside and ready to go... While in the city centre the buses are sitting visibly in Pl Catalunya and the stations are hidden underground. There is officially a schedule but in practice the buses leave as soon as they are full so most of the day they run in a continuous stream.

Former Trent-Barton 637 (FD53WWJ), was transferred to Kinch Bus of Loughborough in March 2009; an internal transfer as these companies are part of the larger Wellglade Group. Now repainted into this striking branded-livery for Kinch's Skylink service, the bus is usually to be seen running between Derby - East Midlands Airport - Loughborough (Railway Station).

With Derby some miles behind it, 637 is pictured travelling along Station Road, Castle Donington towards the Nottingham-East Midlands Airport on the late afternoon of Wednesday 1st July 2009.

BMTC introduced the Volvo bus service more than 2 years back. As per the Wiki entry about BMTC, it was the first public intra-city transport provider service to induct Volvo buses into service. They are also profitable - again as per wiki - the only one in the country. Good work.

Customers of Sea Coach water taxi from Sierra Leone's capital Freetown to Lungi national airport are carried ashore across muddy river water on the arms of Sea Coach employees; the reason: at low tide the Sea Coach boats can't use their own pier. T.i.A.

After that unnerving landing, the customers are pestered for tips from those employees who carried them to dry ground. T.i.A.

The customers had already paid 40 USD for the 20 mins boat trip (plus a short mini bus trip); the customers had certainly not expected to have to be carried to dry grounds by humans in a scary, undignified procedure.

But this being Africa, you pay thrice: 1. you pay the regular price to the company, 2. you pay with your nerves for the unexpected horrifying procedure, then 3. you pay the tip to the employee. He did his job, and you paid for it, so you have to pay the tip on top too, right? The tip is what matters, actually.

His face makes clear that you haven't paid *anything at all* unless you tipped *him personally* grossly.

And you haven't, have you. At least to him. And that's all that matters. You and the company don't interest him. He is what interests him.

If you *do* tip, he will receive your tourist dollar with a sour face: Your dough just managed to actively starve and strangle his extended family. You egoist. Why didn't you give the double, triple, quadruple amount? He saw the bills in your wallet. The money's there, so it should be his. You didn't hand out those bills. Can you justify that? If you had a good heart, you'd help. You didn't.

Shame.
