This year, World AIDS Day focuses on ‘leadership’, the theme set by the World AIDS Campaign under the five-year slogan “Stop AIDS, Keep the Promise”. Marking the day, the United Nations Secretary General, the Executive Director of UNAIDS and UNAIDS cosponsors and key partners speak out in special World AIDS Day statements......

This work marked a pivotal moment in the group’s practice: their engagement with the HIV/AIDS crisis at a time when the illness was a taboo subject and highly stigmatized. The painting appropriates American Pop and artist Robert Indiana’s LOVE motif (1964), substituting L-O-V-E with A-I-D-S. Produced for a fundraiser at Koury Wingate Gallery in New York, it was a the first of many AIDS works to follow.

Lee Este Libro "

This installation deliberately engulfs us: its high-contrast graphics seem to move before our eyes, producing a dizzying field of colours. Steering away from their classic palette of red, blue and green, General Idea experimented with alternate colour combinations in these three paintings. The canvasses are installed over the group’s AIDS Wallpaper – a work whose repetitive pattern references the replication of the HIV virus.

The AIDS Memorial in Barbara Hall Park is a tribute to people from our local community who have died of an AIDS-related illness. The Memorial counters the silence, denial, isolation and rejection that are often connected with AIDS. This is a place to grieve those who are gone, to celebrate their lives and courage, and to take pride in our response to AIDS.

In her African village 65% of the adults had AIDS and over 100 children were orphans from death of their parents. She was nurse, mother, father, angel.

Since 1988, December 1st is the international World Aids Day. Every year, every day, every minute... people around the world get infected by the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) or die because of the AIDS pandemic. It still is a worldwide problem, causing countlessly more deaths than the so feared and so widely discussed terrorist threat.

Some numbers and discussion of the statistics you can find here. This year again the theme is "Stop AIDS. Keep the promise." of the World Aids Campagne (WAC)

Buffed now. Dope throw

We tend to forget things unless we are reminded sometimes. In my mad search to find something to photograph today, I came across this little red rubber ribbon in the junk drawer. As my fingers brushed across the surface I was reminded of a few things. It didn't remind me of AIDS, I am reminded of that everyday I wake up and see my partner who does. What it reminded me of are all the things I hear from other people.

"I hear they are close to a cure"

Not really. I've heard that since the early 90's.

"Does anybody really die of AIDS anymore"

Everyday

"With all the medication they have now, people with AIDS live happy productive lives."

The medication is harsh and relentless sometimes. The side effects can be truly horrible, making holding a steady job almost impossible sometimes. It can also be crippling or deadly in it's own right.

"If you are insured, how can AIDS be such a hardship"

It's called co-payments. Doctor visits $30, 15 to 20 prescribtions a month ranging from $10 to $60 each, guess what end of that spectrum the majority are on.

"I don't know anybody who has "AIDS" or is effected by it."

Yes, you do.

Then I was reminded of the things people don't know. People don't know what it is like to walk into the living room to find there husband or wife lying on the couch, hoping they are asleep and not dead because they accidentally took too much of the wrong medication. Not once in awhile, but a couple times a week. They don't know what it's like to fight every month with the insurance company over approving the same damn medication that you have been using for the last eight years.

I was reminded of all this in fraction of a second as my fingers brushed across this tiny red rubber ribbon that I have no clue where I got. So I decided, this is what I would photograph for today. I would photograph it and post it for the challenge for all to see and hope with all my heart that you don't forget.

This truly is a better shot on black

“Focus, Partner, Achieve: An AIDS-free Generation.”

E, a quanto pare, l’informazione scarseggia.
