Easter gone, lilies wilting in exuberant if blemished beauty.

Last spring and summer I watched this bird for hours. She would go to the bird bath and rest. Then go to the feeder and eat, rest, repeat. I love this bird, more than any other bird I've had the opportunity to capture. I showed this bird to an expert โ€ฆ was told this dear girl was likely old. I don't think I'll see her this year. I only hope she aged gracefully.

I hope you find her as lovely as I do!

I live in the oldest county and state in the US. We are trying to create environments for elders to live out their days with purpose and dignity. Perhaps this dear girl, which I have watched all summer, will fall asleep in my loving yardโ€ฆoh I hope she does as she is the most beautiful bird I've ever seen:)

When I get old and wrinkled, and my teeth and hair fall out I hope I'll look half this good.

Something tells me I'll just be old and wrinkly. Oh, well.

Will you still need me,

will you still feed me,

Cattails past their prime but still managing to show off a bit. Aging gracefully? No problem, they've got this!

Seen at a nearby arboretum on the first sunny weekend in ages. No rain, but plenty of biting wind to remind us it's still winter.

We took a long overdue trip to one of our favorite nature centers this past weekend. Our first stop was the Lotus Pond, a favorite spot during the spring and summer months when the lotus blooms are towering, and the water lilies are abundant.

This trip, either we were too late in the season, or the excessive heat we've had this year had taken its toll on the Lotus Pond. The only signs of the Lotus flowers were plenty of seedheads, like this one, in various stages of aging.

Still, we took in the beauty of what was left, taking lots of photos in hopes of a few keepers. And there were a few, so over the next week or so, that'll be my main focus.

Captured in action, this photograph features one of my favorite subjects from Guna Yala. Previously, I've shared similar images under the title "Wise Guna Eyes," but this scene offers a broader context. Here, a Guna woman demonstrates her impressive skill at filleting fish. Swift and precise with a sharp knife, her speed is astonishing. Though presented in black and white, the image is equally captivating in color. Fascinatingly, despite her advanced age, she actively preserves the skills that define us as humans and continues to contribute to Guna society. Her complete attire while carrying out this task is truly remarkable โ€“ a blend of traditional Guna clothing and the essence of her everyday life. This sight is indeed a must-see to believe.

Each wrinkle on his face echoes a story of seasons passed, just as every weave of the bamboo trap speaks of enduring tradition. Surrounded by his lifeโ€™s work, this elderly artisan becomes one with the textures of time โ€” worn, intricate, and enduring. A portrait of resilience set against a backdrop of quiet craftsmanship in rural Vietnam.

Three roses in a vase are still radiant after 10 days. I put a black cloth under the vase and light-painted the flowers with a small flashlight to create the separation from the background.

Curiosity results in knowledge, but wisdom is a function of time. It comes with age, thought and profound observation.

Sassy is 13 years old now, and sheโ€™s had quite a life. I am her 5th owner. She was rescued by my daughter when she was about a year old. My daughter had too many cats and couldnโ€™t keep her, so we found her a home with our neighbor. He needed a good mouser for his pole barn out in the country. She was a very good mouser, and lived the next few years as a barn cat, exploring the woods and fields. A few years later our neghbor sold everything and moved to Florida. He found her another home with a neighbor a half a mile down the road, but she refused to stay and kept going back to her old property. Her new owner gave up on her, and we ended up feeding her for the month that the property stood empty. We couldn't get her to come home with us. The new owners fell in love with her and, needing a mouser for their barn, adopted her. We said then that Sassy was the real owner of the property. But a year after moving in, the new owners rescued two dogs that someone had dumped. Sassy hated the dogs, and eventually ran off and hid in the woods and fields for a month. Both the neighbors and us looked for her, but she wouldnโ€™t come when called, and none of us could find her. Finally, a month after she disappeared, my husband found her and was able to get her to come to him. He took her home to our house. By this time she was weak and had lost a lot of weight. Her owners were afraid she would run off again, so it was mutually decided that we would adopt her. Thus she transitioned into being a spoiled indoor/outdoor house cat. But she never got far from our house, and no longer explored the woods. Whatever had happened to her, she was traumatized by her experineces in the wild. Since then, my husband passed away, and I moved to town, so Sassy is now an indoor only cat. She has her very own heated cat bed, and is living out her โ€œold age โ€œ in luxery. She is still healthy and as "Sassy" as ever.

Noticed this beautiful couple out in their running shoes walking what was likely a grand or great-grand child. They were keeping a pretty good clip.

Only the pollinated stigma, dried up pistils, and a few petals left of an old peony that's way past its prime, but what's hanging on is still beautiful, still exudes a certain grace. And that's aging gracefully!

...or forty, depending on how I look at it.

I think Shizandra is beautiful. She has a white and a rusty red coat as you can see. She turned 6 last May and I think she is aging very gracefully!
