Elastocapillarity is an interfacial phenomenon in which the surface tension of the liquid phase brings elastic deformation in solids. This phenomenon is prevalent at micro and nanoscales, where the competition between the capillary forces of the liquid and the elastic strain energy of the surface material becomes significant. The aggregation of polymer nanopillars at the center of the image is due to the elastocapillarity phenomenon, which happened during the wet processing steps. The capillary coalescence due to elastocapillarity can be manipulated to achieve the self-assembly of nanostructures with periodic and hierrachial architectures used in a wide variety of applications.
