Loved the way HATV took off the Leyland letters [ like Redland did ] .

When I started [ in the office at Byfleet Aug.75 straight out of school ] I was sent to Chertsey pit to work with Les Hill in the 'outpost' transport office where they compiled the facts and figures from the previous days work before sending them back to Byfleet . At that time there must have been about a dozen J / K / L reg Scammell's , four or five Albion Clydesdale 4 wheelers and several 6 wheelers which were Reivers and the 2 newest vehicles there which were Leyland Bisons with the AEC Ergomatic style cab [ N reg 16519 / 16523 I think ] which were driven by Mike Hunt and Bert Lloyd . There were also 2 or 3 J reg Scammell Artics [ with the original rounded grill moulding ] .

By the time of the above Chertsey depot was down to 1 artic and 2 x 8 wheelers [ on the tipper side ] but just around the corner was the M25 in the offing - the M4 junction with CEM-COS and Chertsey - Leatherhead with Balfour Beatty .

As the skies began to defog, DB Cargo UK Class 66 diesel locomotive 66172 passes by West Ealing working 6xxx 10:57 Hayes & H'ton Tarmac Sdgs to Acton T.C. 23/02/19

A tranquil Arun this week reveals much peak-level debris from storm activity waterside at Ford.

In sight of the South Downs a resplendent Cl59/0 59005 labours 6068 Westbury-Crawley loaded aggregates over the crossing about an hour late as a result of track trespass around nearly Hilsea.

There is much appeal for less close-in studies of the Coastway at Ford to include Ship & Anchor Marina although the distant South Downs panorama will inevitably be 'lost behind the train'.

DB Schenker red liveried 59206 is seen here heading south away from Melksham as it hauls the 7C66 17:47 Wootton Bassett to Merehead train of empty aggregate hopper wagons. Following some vegetation clearance and drainage works, this shot has been nicely opened up. 23/04/15.

DETAILS FOR THIS VEHICLE.

Location : Carlisle Kingmoor Yard.

Date : 03/06/2016.

Type : Bogie Open Aggregate Wagon.

Weight : 80 ton GLW / (55.6t Capacity & 24.4t Tare).

Number : 950010.

Number Series : Various conversions in the 95xxxx range.

Builder : Rebuilt 2016 by Axiom Rail, Stoke Wagon Works.

TOPS Code : MXA.

UIC Code : Sms.

CCE Code : RED LOBSTER.

Lot no. : 3907.

ADDITIONAL NOTES.

The "new" 'Red Lobster' engineers wagons being built for DB Cargo are recycled steel carriers, mostly ex BDA and BEA's. The conversion has come about as DB seeks to rid its fleet of four wheeled open aggregate wagons like MHA 'Coalfish' and MTA 'Doorands' which are also recycled vehicles being ex coal hopper frames for the MHA's and tank wagon frames for the MTA's. The downturn in the steel industry in the UK has created a surplus of Bogie Bolster wagons but these former BR air braked fleet wagons are in fact much older and this latest conversion is a third generation re-use.

The vehicle seen here started life as B 942207 a 42ton capacity Bogie Bolster. D (TOPS code BDO) built by BR Swindon Works in 1955 to diagram 1/472 and lot 2691. When BR shifted from unfitted and vacuum braked to air braked freight it was rebuilt at Ashford BREL Works in 1977 with new bogies and air brakes to emerge as 950010 from lot 3907 which covered vehicles 950001 to 950200 (TOPS code BDA) they had a 58 ton capacity. The wagons have gained the Civil Engineers designation 'Red Lobster' all though none seem to carry the legend yet.

Bardon Aggregates liveried 59005 sits on accommodation bogies at Freightliners Midland Road depot in Leeds. Its been there for a few months now, must be a big job or awaiting spares perhaps?

One of my favourite current liveries this one, far more complementary to the locos than some!!

Seen in the company of Freightliner's own 66's, Lto R 66505, 55589 & 66619.

60046 'William Wilberforce' is seen on the approach to Hungerford with train 6Z52, the 0650 Tytherington to Quainton Railhead loaded aggregates service, run in conjunction with the HS2 route project. At this point over 20 minutes early these trains can be quite erratic timekeepers with early running through some sections of the route commonplace. If you're going to do this location be sure to ask the farmer for access permission if parking in North Standen Road. He's a very amiable guy but understandably gets irked if people just go blithely wandering all over his land.

Colas Class 70 no. 70817 is seen accelerating away from Stenson Junction working 6Z76 the 04:41 Redcar to Longport 'Land Recovery' aggregates train.

The route south of Derby towards Birmingham was completely blocked by a trespass incident however thankfully the Stoke line was unaffected, allowing this and a later charter to continue.

Aggregates carrier Bert Prior heading down the River Thames and passing Tilbury International Cruise Terminal.

One of my favourites, because it's small and looks like a 'proper' boat and makes a reassuringly chug chug sound as it moves up or down river.

Shot 25 January 2017, uploaded 9 February 2024, when Bert Prior is at Woolwich Arsenal Pier, a few miles up river from Gravesend & Tilbury.

Today I headed to Gateway West Jn near Lockington/Castle Donington in Leicestershire, where Hanson 59101 led Aggregate Industries 59005 with the 0F59 Westbury Down Yard to Leeds Balm Road Loco FHH light engine move. These were running over 100E, thankfully allowing a daylight shot near me. Taken with the pole at about 5m.
