The capybara or greater capybara (Hydrochoerus hydrochaeris) is a giant cavy rodent native to South America.

It is the largest living rodent and a member of the genus Hydrochoerus. The only other extant member is the lesser capybara (Hydrochoerus isthmius). Its close relatives include guinea pigs and rock cavies, and it is more distantly related to the agouti, the chinchilla, and the nutria. The capybara inhabits savannas and dense forests, and lives near bodies of water. It is a highly social species and can be found in groups as large as 100 individuals, but usually live in groups of 10–20 individuals. The capybara is hunted for its meat and hide and also for grease from its thick fatty skin. It is not considered a threatened species.

The scientific name, both hydrochoerus and hydrochaeris, comes from Greek ὕδωρ (hydor "water") and χοῖρος (choiros "pig, hog").

And With A Glimmer, It Falls Apart is a painted, abstract re-mapping of the human brain that communicates the biological processes of neural deterioration and the concept of memory. The agglutinations of thick paint trapped underneath the epoxy resin are incredibly volatile and will crack over time. This subtle transformation is meant to mimic the brain’s eventual loss of plasticity, the formation of neural plaque and the development of conditions such as Alzheimer’s disease, as a gesture of both sympathy and solidarity.

This Brain Project sculpture is dedicated in loving memory to Jordan Clayton’s grandmother, Shirley Sellon, the shining light behind this design.

Ispiration: Gamma Ray

Topic: Nel 1988, dopo aver fatto i primi tre album con gli Helloween (Walls of Jericho e i primi due Keeper of the Seven Keys), il chitarrista e compositore Kai Hansen decise di lasciare la band. Il motivo di tale decisione è stata la diversità di idee circa l'evoluzione del gruppo avute con l'allora cantante Michael Kiske. Inizialmente aiutò i Blind Guardian nella realizzazione di alcuni lavori in studio. Infine decise di dare vita ad un suo progetto con il suo vecchio amico Ralf Scheepers (cantante) e con Uwe Wessel (bassista) e Mathias Burchardt (batterista). I Gamma Ray erano nati e senza sorpresa da parte di nessuno, il loro sound era molto vicino a quello degli Helloween.

Questo era un progetto tra Kai Hansen e il cantante Ralf Scheepers: la carriera dei Gamma Ray si dimostrò di incredibile successo, mentre la precedente band, gli Helloween, sviluppò le proprie potenzialità verso direzioni differenti. Hansen divenne ad un certo punto il chitarrista principale, il cantante e il compositore di musica e testi dei Gamma Ray.

Con la formazione iniziale pubblicarono nel febbraio del 1990 l'album Heading for Tomorrow, e lo stesso anno anche l'EP Heaven Can Wait con il secondo chitarrista Dirk Schlächter, mentre Uli Kusch sostituì Mathias alla batteria.

Nel 1991 fu pubblicato il loro secondo lavoro, Sigh No More, e ad ottobre iniziò un tour mondiale di 50 date.

Il terzo album, Insanity and Genius, venne pubblicato nel 1993 con due nuovi membri: Thomas Nack sostituì Uli alla batteria, mentre Jan Rubach sostituì Uwe al basso.

A settembre i Gamma Ray, assieme ai Rage, agli Helicon e ai Conception, si imbarcarono nel tour Melodic Metal Strikes Back. Questa impresa contribuì notevolmente alla pubblicazione a dicembre del loro doppio CD Power of Metal, e ai video clip Power of Metal e Lust for Live.

Durante la pianificazione del quarto album della band, Hansen e Schlächter erano molto preoccupati per il fatto che Scheepers viveva molto distante da Amburgo. Questo voleva dire che potevano fare le prove solo i fine settimana, e questo metteva un freno alla produzione del lavoro. Dal momento in cui Scheepers aveva fatto un'audizione per ottenere il ruolo di cantante nei Judas Priest, quando si presentò l'opportunità di considerare il suo allontanamento dal gruppo una soluzione, Hansen gli chiese se continuare a stare con i Gamma Ray fosse veramente la cosa giusta da fare. Nel 1995 fu pubblicato il quarto album, Land of the Free, il primo con alla voce Kai Hansen e la partecipazione di Michael Kiske su 2 brani (Land of the Free e Time to Break Free) e dell'amico Hansi Kürsch nei brani Farewell e Land of the Free. La critica di tutto il mondo fu entusiasta. Il tour seguente (Men on a Tour) portò alla pubblicazione nel 1996 dell'album live Alive '95.

Nel 1996 lasciarono la band Jan Rubach e Thomas Nack (tornando entrambi alla band che avevano lasciato precedentemente, gli Anesthesia), e arrivò il nuovo batterista Dan Zimmermann. Schlächter decise di lasciare la chitarra e di prendere in mano il basso. Henjo Richter ebbe il ruolo di seconda chitarra. Questa fu l'ultima formazione dei Gamma Ray che dura ancora oggi.

Partì il lavoro per il successivo album, e il 1997 vide la pubblicazione di Somewhere Out In Space, che diede il via all'interesse da parte della band per lo spazio. Dopo due anni di tour arrivò l'album Powerplant, che fu una continuazione dei temi di Somewhere Out In Space, ma che imboccava una nuova direzione musicale. L'album fu fortemente acclamato in tutto il mondo.

Venne il momento di realizzare un "Best Of...", e Hansen decise di fare le cose in modo diverso; la band andò in studio per ri-registrare i vecchi classici. Blast from the Past fu il nome scelto per l'album.

I Gamma Ray procedettero quindi alla registrazione del loro album successivo, di cui si diceva che avrebbe avuto un sound classico simile a quello di band come Iron Maiden e Judas Priest, prima di prendere un anno di riposo.

Dopo la pausa, nella quale Hansen si era concentrato sul suo progetto alternativo Iron Savior, la band fu pronta per la registrazione dell'album No World Order, contenente molti riff duri nello stile delle band degli anni ottanta. Il No Order World Tour vide la band impegnata in tappe in numeresi paesi in tutta Europa e in alcuni show in Giappone. Dopo questo impegno la band proseguì con lo Skeletons in the Closet Tour, nel quale suonarono canzoni che erano state presentate molto raramente dal vivo. Furono fatte solo poche tappe, ma un paio di queste furono registrate e fu pubblicato l'album Skeletons in the Closet, riconosciuto come il loro miglior album live sino ad oggi.

Il tour dell'Autunno 2003 li ha visti come band di apertura nelle prime dieci tappe europee del tour degli Iron Maiden (di cui una a Milano e una a Firenze). I Gamma Ray hanno chiamato quelle tappe Rayzin' Hell With the Beast, questo portò ulteriori fan alla band.

I Gamma Ray hanno rilasciato il loro terzultimo album, Majestic, il 26 settembre 2005.

È datato invece 19 novembre 2007 Land of the Free II, album che si pone come seguito del celebre disco del 1995. Durante il tour di supporto all'album, l'Hellish Tour, Alessio Gori (tastierista e cantante dei Flashback of Anger) divenne il tastierista ufficiale nelle sessioni Live. Il tour ha visto i Gamma Ray on the road insieme agli Helloween e con gli Axxis di supporto, e si è concluso all'inizio del 2008.

La Band Teutonica ha annunciato un nuovo album previsto per il tardo Autunno 2009. Il 9 dicembre 2009 viene annunciato il nome del prossimo album: To The Metal,[5] in uscita il 29 gennaio 2010.

The Capybara (Hydrochoerus hydrochaeris) is a large rodent of the genus Hydrochoerus of which the only other extant member is the lesser capybara (Hydrochoerus isthmius). The capybara is the largest rodent in the world. Close relatives are guinea pigs and rock cavies, and it is more distantly related to the agouti, chinchillas, and the coypu. Native to South America, the capybara inhabits savannas and dense forests and lives near bodies of water. It is a highly social species and can be found in groups as large as 100 individuals, but usually lives in groups of 10–20 individuals. The capybara is not a threatened species and is hunted for its meat and hide and also for a grease from its thick fatty skin which is used in the pharmaceutical trade. Its common name is derived from Tupi ka'apiûara, a complex agglutination of kaá (leaf) + píi (slender) + ú (eat) + ara (a suffix for agent nouns), meaning "one who eats slender leaves", or "grass-eater". The scientific name, both hydrochoerus and hydrochaeris, comes from Greek ὕδωρ (hydor = water) + χοίρος (choiros = pig, hog). The capybara and the lesser capybara belong to the subfamily Hydrochoerinae along with the rock cavies. The living capybaras and their extinct relatives were previously classified in their own family Hydrochoeridae. Since 2002, molecular phylogenetic studies have recognized a close relationship between Hydrochoerus and Kerodon supporting placement of both genera in a subfamily of Caviidae. Paleontological classifications have yet to incorporate this new taxonomy and continue to use Hydrochoeridae for all capybaras, while using Hydrochoerinae for the living genus and its closest fossil relatives, such as Neochoerus. The taxonomy of fossil hydrochoerines is also in a state of flux. In recent years, the diversity of fossil hydrochoerines has been substantially reduced. This is largely due to the recognition that capybara molar teeth show strong variation in shape over the life of an individual. In one instance, material once referred to four genera and seven species on the basis of differences in molar shape is now thought to represent differently aged individuals of a single species, Cardiatherium paranense. The capybara has a heavy, barrel-shaped body and short head, with reddish-brown fur on the upper part of its body that turns yellowish-brown underneath. Its sweat glands can be found in the surface of the hairy portions of its skin, an unusual trait among rodents. The animal lacks under hair, and guard hair differs little from over hair. Adult capybaras grow to 106 to 134 cm (3.48 to 4.40 ft) in length, stand 50 to 62 cm (20 to 24 in) tall at the withers, and typically weigh 35 to 66 kg (77 to 146 lb), with an average in the Venezuelan llanos of 48.9 kg (108 lb). The top recorded weights are 91 kg (201 lb) for a wild female from Brazil and 73.5 kg (162 lb) for a wild male from Uruguay. Capybaras have slightly webbed feet and vestigial tails. Their hind legs are slightly longer than their forelegs; they have three toes on their rear feet and four toes on their front feet. Their muzzles are blunt, with nostrils, and the eyes and ears are near the top of their heads. Females are slightly heavier than males. Capybaras are semi-aquatic mammals found throughout almost all countries of South America (except Chile). They live in densely forested areas near bodies of water, such as lakes, rivers, swamps, ponds, and marshes, as well as flooded savannah and along rivers in tropical forest. Capybara have flourished in cattle ranches. They roam in home ranges averaging 10 hectares (25 acres) in high-density populations. Many escapees from captivity can also be found in similar watery habitats around the world. Sightings are fairly common in Florida, although a breeding population has not yet been confirmed. In 2011, one was spotted in the Central Coast of California.

Chris took Fella to work today and it was a tiring day for the little guy. He might be more tired than most puppies, his age, as he's been sick. But most of the time he's full of beans again.

Today I went exploring new furniture with my sister and Beth.. The photo of Chris and Fella came into Beth's iPhone while we three sat outside at a coffee shop. Then this text arrived from Fella's vet. We didn't understand all of it but the main message was completely clear.

Message from vet on Fella's most recent blood test:

"Normal red cell count... Still a generous population of retics. All cell lines increased (due to boot camp hormone). NO spheros, NO agglutination.

Soooo NO change in meds, No more hormones at the moment! CBC is everything we could ask for :)"
