I love the beautiful Northern Pintails and was really happy to see them in this pond. There were several here and this one floated quite close while he was taking a nap. Taken at the San Diego Safari Park, Escondido, California. What a great place to visit.

Polignano, Apulia, Italy. The weather was summerlike warm in the afternoon, with many swimmers cooling off below the cliffs, then the winds changed direction before sunset and the temperatures plummeted without a single drop of rain. Needless to say, no one was taking a sunset swim.

This is Kenny. He first came to us a couple of months ago and it soon became obvious that he's an older bird. His pink feathers are darker and all the feathers are often ruffled. But he just pops down amongst the others to eat and like an old man who has seen much of life, he eats very slowly and nothing much rattles him.
The Galahs often get a fright from Noisy Miners or other birds and all take off in a flurry of wings, but not Kenny. He was pretty tired this afternoon late and first went to sleep perched on one of the seed dishes then hopped up on the back rail, closed his eyes and turned his head round into his feathers and went to sleep. And there he sits as I write this. The different personalities and interplay between the Galahs make this a delightful experience, well mostly, every day. We literally love them all. Even when it's like New York Central or Flinders Street at peak hour!
I should emphasise that these are all wild birds. There are perhaps three flocks in our local area. I would love to know where they nest at night but too many trees and bush land reserves around us to really know. They come and go as they please but we do have to draw a line, the Sunflower Cafe closes between 8.30 am and 1.30 pm in winter, and again around 4.00pm, don't know what's going to happen as summer moves back in.
