Looking out of the main entrance, many of the historical features have been preserved.

Pre-construction Phase: top floor. During this phase, an original fireplace was discovered hidden behind some old shelving. This feature will be enhanced during the refurbishment - and won't be hidden again!

Here, you can see that the room is now bare and the condition of the walls and floor have been investigated.

Pre-construction Phase: ground floor. Previously locked and unused, this side entrance will be opened up again as part of the refurbishment to allow easier access to the new children's library.

Here you can see that the original oak doorframe of the inner door has been covered to protect it from damage. The doors have been removed for the duration of the works but will be reinstated.
