I composed this photograph while visiting the San Ildefonso Pueblo, not far from Santa Fe, New Mexico. I suspect this abandoned home - and the tree that synchronized its life with it - would have interesting stories to tell, including about hardship and about resiliance.

These two photographs were composed during a visit to Santa Fe's Canyon Road. One depicts the entrance to one of the many art galleries to be found there; another captures an example of the visual delights one may find inside such galleries.

Canyon Road was once a primarily residential neighborhood. Houses built in the Pueblo Revival style, in accordance with the local Spanish Colonial and Pueblo methods, were constructed with adobe walls and courtyards, often as compounds for extended family.

These homes have now been mostly converted to art galleries, of which there are close to 100. It's easy to spend a few sun-strewn hours ambling along Canyon Road, enjoyed the world-class art and then resting at one of the pleasant outside cafes.

The ancient citadel of Arg-e Bam ( ارگ بم ) has a history dating back for more than 2000 years. The origins of Bam can be traced back to the Achaemenid period (6th to 4th centuries BC). Its heyday was from the 7th to 11th centuries, being at the crossroads of important trade routes and known for the production of silk and cotton garments. The city was largely abandoned due to an Afghan invasion in 1722. Subsequently, after the city had gradually been re-settled, it was abandoned a second time due to an attack by invaders from Shiraz.

On December 26 2003 Bam was struck by an earthquake of 6.6 on the Richter scale. The earthquake was particularly destructive, with a death toll of about 30.000 people.

The earthquake destroyed this city.

In 2004 however, it was placed on the UNESCO world heritage list and it will be rebuilt. (I don't know how the progress is at the moment)

Enjoy the timeless beauty of Taos Pueblo's North House (Hlauuma), one of the oldest continuously inhabited communities in the U.S.

This stunning multi-story adobe structure, built between 1000 and 1450 AD, rises five stories high with thick earthen walls, wooden ladders, and vigas supporting dirt-covered roofs. Part of a UNESCO World Heritage Site and National Historic Landmark, it stands as a living testament to the Taos people's enduring traditions and connection to the land. The people there live "the old way." No running water, no utilities.

The thick adobe walls glow against the backdrop of a full moon and a dusting of snow. This ancient dwelling whispers stories of resilience and culture that have thrived for over 1,000 years. A must-visit in New Mexico!

This is a daylight photo I took and edited with AI to produce a night scene with snow and a full moon.

The landscape of the High Atlas Mountains in Morocco, captured along the N9 national road connecting Marrakesh to Ouarzazate, reveals a rugged and arid terrain marked by mountains exceeding 4,000 meters, such as Mount Toubkal. The highest point on the N9, the Tizi n'Tichka pass, reaches an altitude of 2,260 meters. The complex geology of the mountain range, resulting from tectonic movements, contrasts with the areas of vegetation in the valleys, where Berber villages depend on subsistence agriculture and scarce water resources. This road, built in 1936, not only connects isolated communities but also promotes the region's economic development and adventure tourism, attracting many visitors. The climatic separation provided by the High Atlas between the Atlantic and Mediterranean coasts and the Sahara desert significantly influences local living conditions and agricultural practices, resulting in a culture adapted to mountainous adversities.

There are many fine arts Museums or Galleria in Santa Fe, New Mexico and for each one we could find, we enjoyed the history given. For the Gallerias we went to, it was a time to also marvel at the adobe structures as well as their unique designs. For all the local residents that pointed us in the direction of a great adventure, thank you.

Taos Pueblo No. 2 ~ Architecture is ageless and admired world wide from Egypt, Greece, and Rome. Tucked away in northern New Mexico, USA is the Taos Pueblo.

The ancestors of the Pueblo people, commonly known as the Anasazi, were the first permanent inhabitants of the Taos Valley. Room blocks and pit houses in the Taos area testify to their presence since 900 AD. Around 1200 AD, they aggregated into small above-ground structures of 50-100 rooms. The Taos Pueblo that continues to stand today was probably built between A.D. 1300 and 1450.

It was uplifting to walk and visit the grounds of ancient Native Americans admiring their way of life from long ago. To be allowed to photograph their dwellings that remain to this day an active part of their daily lives was a privilege.

Taos Pueblo No.2 is my vision of ancient tribal life set to fine art black and white photog. If you have the time, enlarge for a better view.

Seen in Acoma Pueblo. Old Acoma (also called Sky City) is situated on a 365-foot (111 m) mesa, about 60 miles (97 km) west of Albuquerque, New Mexico.

The buildings are constructed from adobe brick with beams across the roof that were covered with poles, brush, and then plaster.

The photo was taken in Sky City (Old Acoma), located on a mesa. About 300 two- and three-story adobe buildings stand on the mesa, with exterior ladders used to access the upper levels, where residents live. Approximately 30 people live permanently in Sky City, which has no electricity nor running water.

Taos Pueblo in New Mexico has been inhabited for at least a thousand years. The adobe architecture seems to spring from the earth at the foot of Taos Mountain. It's a UNESCO World Heritage site and a living community, not a museum.

On the hills in the background there is still some snow (mid-May)!
