Buddy told me that someone had put in a lot of work clearing First Notch. I’ve either never ridden it or only once early on when I first discovered Gillard in my early days of mtbing ( 5ish years ago ). I was able to squeeze out 2 laps of Gillard between clients and so on my first lap I went to explore First Notch. Running beautifully from top to bottom, now only hoping that they’ll rebuild all the amazing looking wooden structures along the way.

So stoked that I got my bike back up and running in less then 24hrs. Went for a quick rip before my work set starts tonight. Casino Royal is always a guaranteed good time, all the gap jumps are sadly still out of reach for me. Need to get back to SilverStar and practice my tabletops.

Starting from the very top, this was another solid option at the #valemountbikepark . The Craig going into Stinger and then finishing into Tinfoil Hat just like the High Roller & Turducken duo. You could say one is more the flow trail way with dirt jumps coming down where as this one was more the tech descent. Beautiful stonework too.

Tinfoil Hat DH was my introduction to Valemount 4 years ago when we first visited. I could swear it was a black trail back then, either way always a guaranteed good time with some black optional jumps.

Finally got to check off “Hammered Cow”. Last time I attempted it I was met by 3 - 4 feet of snow. This time around it was in prime condition but holy shit did it frustrate the heck out of me. The climbing trails were pretty decent but you also have the option to shuttle. I wanted to explore the full trail from top to bottom and boy was that a waste of time and effort. Basically just 100m stretches of steep rocky descents and then getting lost in a network of cross country skiing trails. The real trail pretty much started halfway. But man oh man, it’s as if someone teleported me to the Nelson North Shore. One of the finest old school trails I have ridden in the valley and such a concentration of rock slabs I have not encountered the likes in the Okanagan yet. It self proclaims to be one of the hardest trails in the valley, which is pushing it a bit but I t’s fun as hell but sadly the fun is short lived. I passed some other black lines that also looked and sounded promising. Will for sure return to explore some more.

Laura always finds these neat little unique events that are maybe the norm for locals but we still get blown away by how lucky we are to live here in BC. We just “casually” drove up 45min to one of the biggest Nordic Centers, where caterers jumped on tracked ATVs to take their supplies & food to a rustic cabin nestled in the middle of @sovereignlake to start prepping our dinner. While 20 guests, our party being 4 people, ( initially meant to be a double date but then turned out me having three Valentines 😅 ) strap on their snowshoes and weave through a braid of trails under the light of the stars with headlamps. After a 1½ hr snowshoe trek we arrived to a beautifully lantern lit cabin decked out with a three course meal. The Black Prince dinner, organized by the amazing @uprootedcatering and Sovereign Lake.

Since dogs aren’t allowed at the wildlife sanctuary and it was too hot to leave him anywhere, Eddie and I “had” to find an alternative activity. Harper Mountain seemed like the closest promising location to find some fun trails. I started out with Pimpernot but realized real quick that it was a serious jumpline, with gap jumps launching you to the moon and back. I hopped over to the Unicorn trail which was just a barebones fast flowing downhill track with no frills. In retrospect, I should have taken Nate’s Upper trail but the last pictures were dated 2010, so not sure how much of the wooden features would still be standing. We still had fun, especially because it was overcast and it was only 23°C.
