Renée doesn't deal well with major events in the near-term future. This scene is what we get when she is hosting the Memorial Day picnic. About 3 hours in advance of the picnic. Nothing can be done aside from waiting for it to begin.
She is as neurodivergent as I am, though in a different way (which is to say ADHD--though I am not wild about classifying ADHD or autism as disorders). It makes her a magical complement to my spectrumy self. But we both suffer from freezing in the face of future events. There is so much processing going on in my head when I am in waiting mode. There are things that must happen. Priorities become so critical that there is no room in my life for anything other than the event. It can be doctor's appointments or Parent-Teacher Organization meetings. It can be going on a flight (which is why I prefer early flights).
On the other hand, places where waiting is required, like doctor's offices and airports are a snap for me. I can do a 4-hour layover at an airport for fun. There's nothing to do but wait it out. I have plenty of practice at that.
