She was tired of getting hit on by dudes who were calling her avatar "hot" or "sexy" whenever she was wearing an outfit showing some skin. She was tired of getting hit on by another kind of dudes who were calling her "a respectable woman", "not a whore", when she was wearing something else than an outfit showing some skin. She knew that no one should dress accordingly to other people, and especially for males, expectations. But she wanted to lead a social experiment. So she decided to go litterally half naked. Well, she had to cover her naughty bits, indeed. Since the first kind of males were only 50% into her for showing skin and the second kinf of males were only 50% into her for covering her top, they weren't messaging her anymore. She had won the war against controlling douchebags. Or maybe not ?

A project of 17 portraits of activists from the gay community in Israel, the works were painted in 2005-2003
The drawings are in a hyper-realistic style of activists and activities from the gay community in Israel, of course there are other iconic figures that I did not draw so I apologize in advance to them, the activists are from the political, cultural and nightlife fields who contributed to the gay community during the 80's and 90's of the twentieth century.
Professor Uzi Even - Professor of Chemistry. The first homosexual MK in Israel, contributed to the promotion of LGBT rights in the workplace, adoption of children, gay marriage.
Theo Mintz - one of the founders of the Gay Lesbian and Transgender Association in Israel.
Ran Kotzer - film director. TV show producer, documentary maker of the films: Cause of Death Homophobia, Gay Games and a documentary on Amos Gutman.
Tal Eitan - fashion and advertising photographer, exhibition curator and nightlife man.
Avi Sofer - jeweler and glass maker, former chairman of the LGBT Association.
Chai Ben Shoshan lives - a man of the night life and was chosen for the Israel Man of the Year competition.
Itai Pankas - former chairman of the LGBT Association, one of the founders of the gay center, branches of the association in the periphery, and a former activist in municipal politics who greatly promoted the rights of the community in Tel Aviv.
Irit Rabinowitz - Israeli painter, born in Beer Sheva.
Michal Eden - lawyer and the first gay politician in Israel. Active in KLF - a feminist lesbian community, promoting the issue of surrogacy, proud parenthood, LGBT rights, the establishment of Beit Dror - a daycare center for boys and girls from the community who were thrown out of their families.
Yuval Hatz - event producer and triathlon athlete and promotes sports in the gay community.
Alon Strykovski - former chairman of the LGBT Association.
Zvi Mermelstein - a homosexual poet, the author of the masterful book "Suiting Upper and Lower Openings".
Shaz - Israeli poet and writer.
Eli Sharon - IDF officer with the rank of the first proud colonel. In the past he was involved in promoting gay tourism and having a couple therapist.
Rami Hasman - Advertiser and one of the leaders of the fight for carrier rights and the promotion of information about AIDS in Israel.
Aitzik Yoshua - journalist and former chairman of the LGBT Association.
Gadi Sasson - Journalist, writer and editor of the Pink Time magazine.
The process of working on the series of portrait paintings was through a meeting at the activists' homes, I photographed them and then I worked with the technique of photorealism on these paintings (like the famous painter Chuck Close) I started with a very careful drawing on a white canvas - I did the drawing with a projector Slides when the photograph is projected onto the white canvas and then a kind of map is created that gives the contours and tonalities of the color from light to dark, after I finished the drawing then I chose the color palette that I want to use to create the portraits, as a painter I almost touch all types of techniques: From painting in the style of photorealism, many paintings and drawings were made from observing objects, still life, flowers, figures or from freely observing any kind of photography... and of course many paintings were made freely from the imagination, so technically I allow myself to use a huge selection of most painting techniques , also with the many years of experience I have experimented with all mediums from pencil drawings, markers, markers, ink, oil paints, acrylic paints, watercolors, gouache paints, works on paper and canvas fabrics, works on wooden plywood, works on books,
I was surprised to see that most of the activists, regardless of their activities for the gay community, are dominant figures in the life of Israeli society, most of them officers in the IDF (as opposed to the image that gays have as if they are not suitable for the army) with professions that contribute greatly to the development of Israeli society on an economic, cultural and social level.
Most of them are in a high economic situation and from the elite of Israeli society,
I painted them in their natural environment, in the beautiful and well-kept houses and some of them are just a portrait without a background.
My goal was actually to show the bourgeois side of the community, through the painting of the conservative realist style, through the portrait against the background of the interior of the well-kept house in which they live, and choosing activists of all ages (as opposed to the many representations given to gays who are shown infrequently or marginally, or excessive preoccupation with the culture of body worship , the beauty and youth as is often shown in the gay community. I also have quite a few such works...
In the series of portraits, I wanted to emphasize the occupation and contribution to the community.
This project was featured on the pages of the Pink Time magazine for months, with the resume description of each and every activist.
In 2009 on the day of the Pride Parade, (a mass event with hundreds of thousands of people) Avi Sofer curated the exhibition dedicated to this project of the activists' paintings in the gay center.
A large and significant part of these works were purchased by the collector Amos Shokan who purchased hundreds of my works.
These paintings continue to receive great exposure on the Internet following the many publications given over the years to this special project.
For me it was a way to give back to the gay community for the many years that gay community settings such as businesses, cafes, magazines, gay centers presented my works, supported me as an artist and members of the community also purchased works of art from me and allowed me to continue creating and working, a complex task in itself for any artist to survive from his art.
Over the years my work as an artist has changed and I would characterize it in two main painting styles, one painting style is the realistic painting with which I created the series of paintings of heterosexual couples, gays, lesbians, pregnant women, the series of portraits from the gay community in the style of photorealism, a realistic painting of the partner Assaf Hennigsberg in a realistic style - colorful and the series of paintings of the realistic expressive flower couples, and on the other hand there is the other style which is the naive painting with which I mainly painted the urban landscape of cities in Israel and in the world, a kind of idealization of reality and the street paintings full of vegetation, colorful buildings and the use of bright and contrasting colors and a series of naive paintings Under the influence of children's drawings with which I created the series of 40 artist books and other drawings that are influenced by children's drawings...

The new Indian census(2011), which put the population at 1.2 billion, has revealed an alarming trend. Rising incomes only seem to accelerate gendercide – the evocative term for the selective abortion of girl foetuses. There were 945 girls per 1,000 boys in the 1991 census, 927 in 2001 and now 914. It's now a crisis and we need to move beyond just acknowledging the issue. The PC&PNDT Act 1994 prohibits any form of sex-determination practise and sex-selective abortion. It's important you know how to use this. Read more > www.actionaid.org/india/pndt/

Actress and activist Diane Lane during her arrest at the seventh annual fire Drill Friday. Inspired by Greta Thunberg and the youth climate strikes as well as Reverend Barber’s Moral Mondays and Randall Robinson’s often daily anti-apartheid protests, Jane Fonda has moved to Washington, D.C. to be closer to the epicenter of the fight for our climate. Every Friday through January 2020, she leads weekly demonstrations on Capitol Hill to demand that action by our political leaders be taken to address the climate emergency we are in. Speakers for the seventh Fire Drill Friday included: Jane Fonda; Alice Brown Otter, 16-year-old activist and member of the Standing Rock Sioux Tribe; Maude Barlow, National Chairperson of the Counsil of Canadians and best-selling author; Piper Perabo, Actress and activist; Mary Grant, Public Water for All Campaign Director at Food and Water Watch; Sweet Honey In The Rock musical performance; Diane Lane, Actress and activist; Manny Jacinto, Actor and activist; Amber Valletta, Supermodel, actress and activist; Garett Reppenhagen, Executive Director for Veterans For Peace; and Jessica Loya, National Policy Director for GreenLatinos.
Notice the Minolta SRT-101 over his shoulder? He and I spent time in the darkroom together starting from when I was 8 years old.
Here he is speaking to a crowd at a rally against the Vietnam War. He had a tremendous heart and spirit even though it was his heart that gave out on him. He's in the darkroom with me to this day.

Many protesters, activists and academics have long urged for mass peaceful protest in support of the Palestinian struggle and intifada.
"The intifada is not limited to opposing the occupation. It is also a social revolution within Palestinian society, breaking patterns of subordination of women, authority by notables, and other forms of hierarchy and domination." Noam Chomsky.*
"A revolt against the whole status quo." Edward Said
www.jadaliyya.com/Details/45352
" The Palestinian uprising (or Intifada) is a remarkable feat of collective self-discipline. It is quite different from the struggle of the Jews of Palestine for a Jewish state, with the murder of British officials, the assassination of UN mediator Folke Bernadotte, the hanging of British hostages, and many atrocities against Arab civilians." Noam Chomsky
I reference these quotes just in case anyone might assume that a call for an Intifada is a call for either Islamist extremism or violence. It is in fact the opposite, despite the negative way in which mainstream media describes its meaning, in an attempt to prevent ordinary people around the world from supporting it.

On Saturday 29 October 2023, at least 100,000 and possibly as many as 300,000 people demonstrated in London in solidarity with Palestinians. It was not just a reaction to the devastating bombing of Gaza and the blockade of energy, fuel, electricity, food and water from 2.3 million Palestinians living in the city and the surrounding strip.
It was also a determination to see an end to -
1) An end to Palestinian suffering from 75 years of Israeli occupation. The Israeli occupation of the West Bank, East Jerusalem and the Gaza Strip since 1967 is officially recognised by the United Nations and most of the world despite the fact that the occupation is often ignored or sometimes even denied by Western media. As Amnesty International reports Israeli occupation has resulted in "systematic human rights violations against Palestinians living there."
www.amnesty.org/en/latest/campaigns/2017/06/israel-occupa...
2) An end to Palestinians living under a highly restrictive Apartheid regime as recognised by Amnesty International, Human Rights Watch and War on Want. Across the West Bank Palestinians are banned from driving on numerous roads that cross the region and as War on Want explains "Jewish Israelis and Palestinians are treated differently in almost every aspect of life: housing, education, health, employment, family life, residence and freedom of movement. Dozens of Israeli laws and policies institutionalise this prevailing system of racial discrimination and domination."
waronwant.org/news-analysis/israeli-apartheid-factsheet?g...
3) An end to restrictions on movement. Across the West Bank there are some 650 Israeli military checkpoints through which only some Palestinians are allowed to pass, often with humiliating questioning and delays, so that they can travel to other towns whether to visit families, seeking medical treatment or for any other reason. In Gaza, travel is even more difficult and only a tiny minority with work permits have been allowed to cross the border - the rest have to remain in what is often described as the world's largest open air prison - the densely populated Gaza strip housing some 2.3 million people.
3) An end to the 16 years of siege imposed by Israel on Gaza which means that around 56% of children were suffering from anemia and only 4% had access to safe drinking water even before the outbreak of conflict this month.

www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC4391478/
4) The never ending process of Israeli expansion across Palestinian land, including the demolition of 55,000 Palestinian homes since 1967, occurring on a near monthly basis as well as the cutting down of fields of olive trees and the ploughing up of Palestinian farms to make room for yet more illegal settlements subsidised by the Israeli government.
These settlements are illegal under international law, which rightly recognises the 1967 border. However, since 1967, Israel has constructed 250 of them across the West Bank in which over 633,000 Israelis live in subsidised and often luxurious housing with swimming pools and manicured lawns, an unimaginable privilege to the vast majority of Palestinians.

www.ochaopt.org/sites/default/files/westbank_a0_25_06_202...
5) Never ending acts of settler terrorism against Palestinians. Western media rightly condemns occasional Palestinian attacks on Israeli civilians, including the appalling atrocities committed by Hamas on 7 October. However, for years illegal Israeli settlers in the West Bank have staged attacks against Palestinians, sometimes motivated sheerly by hatred, but often by the desire to inflict terror and to ethnically cleanse an area. The most recent incident was an attack on Wednesday 11 October in which masked settlers killed three Palestinian villagers and then killed a Palestinian father and son attending the funeral the next day.

6) The division of Palestinian land by the separation wall. The 708 km Separation Wall, completed in 2005, was supposedly built to protect Israel from any Palestinians that might be able to enter the country without permission, but 85% of it runs up to 18 km inside the internationally recognised 1967 boundary ("Green Line"), frequently dividing Palestinians villagers from their farmland as well as running through the middle of farms and dividing arable land from key water supplies.
Some 10% of the West Bank now lies between the wall and the 1967 border, an area into which everyone, except Palestinians, is allowed entry. Not surprisingly, the International Court of Justice has issued an advisory opinion that the separation wall is a contravention of international law and in 2003 the UN General Assembly passed a resolution demanding its removal by 144 votes to just 4. Analysts also fear that the wall acts as a de facto annexation of all the Palestinian land that lies to the west of it.
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Israeli_West_Bank_barrier
7) The myth of Palestinian rejectionism. Western mainstream media usually maintains falsely that it is Palestinians that have constantly rejected a two-state solution, whereas the opposite is the case. Arab states and the Palestinians have frequently made clear their willingness to negotiate a future two-state solution on the basis of the 1967 frontiers, while Israel is committed to preventing any such solution and continuing its territorial expansion.
As early as 1976, Egypt, Syria and Jordan presented a two-state solution resolution to the UN Security Council based on the 1967 Green Line (in accordance with the international consensus) but it was vetoed outright by the United States, even though Washington at the time publicly acknowledged the illegality of all Israeli settlements across the Palestinian West Bank. The same happened again in 1980.
Later in 1988, the PLO put forward their position in a declaration by the Palestinian National Council calling for a Palestinian state alongside Israel with guarantees of security to both countries. However in May 1989, Israel's Likud-Labour coalition government made it crystal clear that they would not accept an "additional" Palestinian state between Jordan and Israel, regardless of what Jordanians, Palestinians or the rest of the world might think. The founding charter of Benjamin Netanyahu's Likud Party still "flatly rejects the establishment of a Palestinian state west of the Jordan river."
8) The frequent killing by Israeli security forces of peaceful protesters, women, children, journalists and medics, including the assassination of renowned Al Jazeera correspondent Shireen Abu Akleh in May last year. In the nine months of 2023 prior to 7 October, 248 Palestinians, 40 of them children, had been killed by Israeli soldiers, but these deaths attracted almost no attention in the Western media. Palestinian lives have always been very cheap.
www.youtube.com/watch?v=KMIZTiN-TrE
9) The current refusal of Israel to allow any journalists into the Gaza Strip so they can see and report on, obviously at their own risk, the destruction and casualties and suffering of the civilian population.
10) An end to "administrative detentions" across the West Bank under which thousands of Palestinians have been detained without any right to be told under what charges they are being held, let alone any right to a free trial. As the Israeli human rights organisation B'Tselem explains
"Administrative detention is incarceration without trial or charge, alleging that a person plans to commit a future offense. It has no time limit, and the evidence on which it is based is not disclosed. Israel employs this measure extensively and routinely, and has used it to hold thousands of Palestinians for lengthy periods of time. While detention orders are formally reviewed, this is merely a semblance of judicial oversight, as detainees cannot reasonably mount a defense against undisclosed allegations. Nevertheless, courts uphold the vast majority of orders."
www.btselem.org/topic/administrative_detention
11) An end to Israeli soldiers controlling access to and frequently preventing Muslims from visiting the Al Aqsa Mosque in Israeli occupied East Jerusalem [Al Quds], considered the third holiest site in Islam after Mecca and Medina. On several occasions, Israeli troops and/or police have also attacked worshippers using batons, stun grenades and tear gas, igniting understandable anger across the Islamic World. Radical Israeli settlers also sometimes enter under the protection of Israeli security forces and some also perform Jewish rituals in contravention of current agreements about non-Muslims being allowed in, but only as visitors.

DENVER,Colo-October 17, 2014- Andrea Farmer displays a sign expressing her displeasure with the Tattered Cover Book Store's affiliation with the Downtown Denver Partnership. The group lobbied extensively to pass Denver's Urban Camping Ban, a controversial one that many believe criminalizes homelessness.
This photo was taken on 1 May, International Workers' Day, in 2013. On this day a group of activists gathered in Georgian capital, Tbilisi to protest the country's labour code and demand better working conditions. A woman with the drink is observing the protest from a Mcdonald's restaurant.

This was her response to the June 12, 1963, murder of Medgar Evers and the September 15, 1963, bombing of the 16th Street Baptist Church in Birmingham, Alabama, that killed four young black girls and partly blinded a fifth. She said that the song was "like throwing ten bullets back at them", becoming one of many other protest songs written by Simone. The song was released as a single, and it was boycotted in some southern states.
In the song she says things are moving “too slow”. 55 years later it appears she was right.
Acclaimed First Nations musician/songwriter/activist, Buffy Sainte-Marie, performed at Toronto's outdoor Dundas Square last night, a free concert presented by Thunderbird Aboriginal Arts Centre. Fabulous!! At 70 years of age, the talented '60's Canadian icon seethed with energy, passion & generosity of spirit. Playing guitar & keyboard with her band, she offered all her greats, including the Academy Award winning "Up Where We Belong ( a huge hit for Joe Cocker & Jennifer Warrens on the soundtrack of the movie "An Officer & a Gentleman), the powerful "Bury My Heart at Wounded Knee" & 'Universal Soldier' the anti- war song that got her black-listed from the US airwaves in the '70's for being ' too radical'. She's back! Big time! In the midst of a world tour, gathering accolades from both press & fans & her message for peace & a kinder world stronger than ever. Thank you, Buffy!!

On the street a couple of weeks ago in Frankfurt. No idea what's written on the sign - I will ask my Chinese colleagues about that - but she spontaneously took posed for the picture.
Well, I was explained she's a Falun Gong activist and the sign denounces the persecution of Falun Gong followers by the Chinese government. A rather arcane story, to me at least. In any case they have a handful of people quietly demonstrating in downtown pretty much every week-end

Stand developed in Blazinal as an experiment that I probably won't repeat, at least not with TRi-X. I didn't record aperture and exposure.
Kathleen Florence Lynn (28 January 1874 – 14 September 1955) was an Irish Sinn Féin politician, activist and medical doctor. She became the first female doctor at the Royal Victoria Eye and Ear Hospital (1910–1916) and in 1919, she founded Saint Ultan's Children's Hospital.
Today’s Supreme Court has lost all credibility. The five reactionary judges don’t seem to understand what a real person is. A corporation is NOT a person with political and religious rights. Corporations are BUSINESS entities chartered by the state to produce goods and services, but they are not people. I support the RIGHT of all women to birth control, and it should be a normal health expense covered by ALL standard health insurance policies and not subject to their employer’s approval. Religious fanatics that control corporations like Hobby Lobby have no right to impose their superstitions on their employees. Freedom of religion is supposed to safeguard an INDIVIDUAL person’s right to worship; however, no person may impose their religion on anyone else.
For my friends that live outside the United States, let me explain a few things. Hobby Lobby is a big retail corporation that has hundreds of large superstores that sell craft items mainly to women. The corporation is not publicly traded on a stock exchange because it is owned by a rich family that happens to be religious “conservatives” that are against providing birth control or abortion services to women as part of the now required health insurance mandate. The Supreme Court ruled in favor of Hobby Lobby. The five MEN who issued the majority verdict stated that the CORPORATION is entitled to follow its religious beliefs. Really? What does an inanimate business entity believe in, and will those beliefs save its godless soul? Of the four Justices who voted against the unwise decision, three are women.
By the way, did you know that much of Hobby Lobby’s merchandise comes from China, a country that forces women to have unwanted abortions? Most Chinese couples are allowed to have only one child. All other pregnancies are aborted on state orders.
As important as women’s reproductive rights are, there is an issue even more dangerous. The Right Wing Nut Jobs think this case helps religious freedom. Bullshit! Religious freedom is only possible when Big Business and Big Government keep their damn noses completely out of religious matters. The Hobby Lobby case is a business affair poorly handled. By muddying the waters, the US Supreme Court opened the door to all kinds of religious-based strife. Our Founding Fathers (from the Age of Enlightenment) were well aware of Europe’s bloody history of religious wars, pogroms, witch hunts, and Inquisitions, and they wrote our Constitution and early laws to prevent such nonsense from happening here. Do we want our country to turn into another Bosnia, Northern Ireland, Iraq, West Bank, or Sudan?
How would conservatives respond if a company with Islamic beliefs decided to impose its religious values on white, Christian, American employees? Sorry, but when you pee in the pool, you can't take it out.... “Conservatism” is no longer a centrist force interested in stability or "tradition." Its members are reactionaries who want to fundamentally destroy and transform the standing bargains and norms which have guided American society and politics for many years. The American Social Contract is in serious trouble. We not only need separation of Church and State; we need separation of Church and State and Corporation. Corporate money and power is corrupting both the Church and the State and using both to increase its own unaccountable power and excessive wealth to the detriment of the public interest.
Activists lay on face down on the ground for more than eight minutes, the amount of time George Floyd was pinned under the knee of a former police officer in Minneapolis when he was killed, during a rally on Capitol Hill. On May 25, 2020, George Floyd, a black man, was killed in Minneapolis, Minnesota, United States. During an arrest, Derek Chauvin, a white American police officer, kept his knee on the side of Floyd's neck for almost nine minutes while Floyd was handcuffed and lying face down. During the last three minutes, Floyd was motionless. After Floyd's death, demonstrations and protests against racism and police brutality were held across the US and the world, despite the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic and the movement and gathering restrictions put in place by governments to prevent the spread of the coronavirus
