Maid for Adventure
As a result of her popular Maid for Adventure series of travelogue motion pictures, Sally LaSalle, Girl Reporter, was a well-known newsreel celebrity in the 1930s, but today she and her films have largely been forgotten.

I have wanted a Go Hero / Castaway Toys Flash Gordon - Buster Crabbe version action figure since I first saw one pictured on Flickr a decade ago... here:

Back then, the price seemed prohibitive. Now that I have become somewhat inured to the absurd prices of "collectable toys," well, as happens over time, the price for complete examples has continued to escalate.
Recently, however, I ran across a complete costume with laser rifle and laser pistol, but on a generic replacement body and missing the Buster Crabbe head and the original boots, for a good price on the secondary market. I finally have a Flash Gordon figure.
The costume fits a TBLeague M32 size body almost perfectly. At the moment I am using an off-brand (aka knock-off) head sculpt that is obviously not Buster Crabbe, but it'll do for now.
'Kay, the rest of this caption is kinda depressing, so you should stop reading now.
Seriously, stop.
In a way, it is a fitting memorial to one of our now-departed Flickr friends that I was able to put this figure together this month, November 2023. The first time I saw this figure was in the photostream of Miskatonicnick, one of the most influential and flat-out fun toy and figure photographers in the hobby. Sadly, Nick passed away five years ago this month, in November 2018. I've been assembling a few "emulation figures" based on some of the action figure characters Nick created over the years. This Flash Gordon figure, although incomplete, will be another member of my Homage to Miskatonicnick collection.
November 2018 was a sad month for toy and figure photographers. In addition to Miskatonicnick, another legend in the toy photography world also left us five years ago this month: Michael Paul Smith, known for his miniature automobile and building diorama photos, collectively referred to as Elgin Park, the imaginary small town in which his photos-as-stories were set.

This year, 2023, just a few weeks ago, November claimed another much-loved doll and figure photographer: Connie aka Land of Dolls, whom I have been following on Flickr for over ten years, passed away. Connie was often a participant in the comment stream conversations with Miskatonicnick. In fact, Connie was the "first to comment" on Nick's final Flickr post. I left a comment shortly after Connie's, little knowing that the reply I received from Nick would be his next-to-last ever Flickr comment. Connie and I were two of the few who periodically checked Nick's photostream during his absence, leaving comments hoping he would be back to see them.
The "November Curse" has me feeling a little bit sad and a little bit nostalgic. I feel fortunate to have been acquainted, at least online, with Nick and Connie and Mr. Elgin Park (an exceprt from at least one of our Flickr conversations made its way in to print in his "Elgin Park" photo book). The best of my generally not very good photos tend to be influenced by the Flickr contacts I've made over the years and the conversations I've had with people.
I've lost other "Flickr friends" over the years. Most simply disappear and I never know what became of them. There are some whom I know have passed beyond the veil. Occasionally it seems as though that veil is very nebulous, that the Other Side is not all that far away, and that our Flickr friends are still around, quietly and subtly sharing ideas and advice, pleased that we remember them and that we still visit their photos and find new things there to enjoy and to learn from.
That said: I'd prefer that the rest of you stick around on this side for a good long while yet.

So, I gave it 24 hours and over 80% of you liked the head swap suggestions! So here are the first pictures of Nathan with his new look and in real terms he has just grown in height by about 1.5 feet but it suits him. I just hope his partner, Chris, doesn't mind the change 🤔
Nora LeValle models the "Glyn-core" fashion style.
Is there a term for this female military-adventure fashion style? I mean, I've heard of loli and goth (and the hybrid loligoth) and cottagecore and emo and scene and even mori kei. Is there a street fashion term for the sexy retro military surplus look?
If the look doesn't have a name, I think it should be called: glyncore, after Glynis Penny-Farthing, an action figure character created by Gary Menten and featured in photographs on Flickr:

Body: TBLeague S32A
Head: SuperDuck SDH 018B
Outfit: assorted action figure pieces from a variety of online sources
UPDATE: it turns out there is a term for this style of fashion, of working military and outdoor gear in to a hip street-chic style. It is called "gorpcore."
Sorry, Glynis, but there's already a word for your look, so "glyn-core" will have to be retired.
Behold! The P-Street Playhouse!
EDIT (March 2020): Annndddd... a year has now passed and we've done almost nothing further with this concept or with this set.
"Apparently she's now set herself up as the leader of her own twisted branch of the Church of Sakkara!, in Jamaica" continued Conan.
"Sakkara, huh? "That will please Commander Rivers!" interjected Teegan with a sly smile.
"Please him or not, Teegan. "We're off to Jamaica!" added Conan,
"Exotic location, blue seas, and the possibility of sexy witches, I'm in!" Chuckled Teegan. "When do we leave!"
Nora LaValle's "pirate name" is Katia Nine-Tails.

Your Commander must select three of the best soldiers or agents (any make of figure can be used) to mount a rescue! Each one must have some skill that will be essential to the team to aide in this mission. Your team must be kitted out and they must have a vehicle to make a fast getaway! Your team may use any mode of transport.
Now let's see those teams!
