First of all, I have to confess my love for the esoteric wallpaper... why esoteric?... cause i didn't wanna mysterious and make it sound like a cheap magician.

Hurrah.

Penang Mascot - MENANG

Week 1

Starting Weight: 145

This Week's Change: Down 2 pounds.

I'm trying hard to concentrate on the things my body can do (haul me to the metro, propel me up stairs, assorted schmaltzy things like walk and run, which, when your mother breaks her neck, you start to think about) instead of the things my body cannot do (namely, fit into my clothes from college)

So this victory is especially sweet. I'm down 2 pounds and still about fifteen away from where I want to be, but

1. I have logged 17.4 miles at the gym between January 3 and today.

2. I have not been crazily controlling about what I eat, while generally abstaining from alcohol during the week

3. I am really, really proud of myself. Hell yeah!

ABOUT Captain America: Civil War

Political pressure mounts to install a system of accountability when the actions of the Avengers lead to collateral damage. The new status quo deeply divides members of the team. Captain America (Chris Evans) believes superheroes should remain free to defend humanity without government interference. Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr.) sharply disagrees and supports oversight. As the debate escalates into an all-out feud, Black Widow (Scarlett Johansson) and Hawkeye (Jeremy Renner) must pick a side. www.CaptainAmerica.com/

Building capacity to increasing the legitimacy of CSOs: a view across the spectrum of self-regulation and accountability

Format: Engagement workshop (1h30)

Summary: If civil society organisations are to be truly effective as a voice for citizens around the world, they need to work hard on standards for continuous improvement of their own governance, as a way to better respond to expectations from citizens, funders, volunteers, staff, and other stakeholders who are increasingly expecting demonstrations of good governance and better impact. CSO self-regulation mechanisms are therefore required, but these need to be by and for civil society rather than be imposed by funders or governments.

The three presenters will convey the varying expectations and challenges faced in their three different countries and regions when CSOs decide to embrace self-regulation, and the implication of this in their work with governments at different levels, mass media, social networks, international cooperation agencies and other relevant actors. Imagine Canada will present its newly launched programme of rigorous peer review, which aims at helping CSOs to improve their practice in the areas of board governance, financial transparency and accountability, fundraising, staff management and volunteer involvement, while responding to the new expectations of society. The Latin American network Rendir Cuentas will present a regional perspective on these issuess.

This is a failed photo (posted a day late), but it serves its purpose:

One of my goals for 2010 is to challenge myself to accomplish one thing I had always thought was impossible. In light of this, I will be running a 10 mile race in May. I have never run more than 3 miles in my life, and that was when I was significantly better shape. But I like a good challenge, so we'll see how this goes.

Also - I wear completely ridiculous ensembles to the gym when it is cold out. Here I am wearing two pairs of pants and three different tee shirts. I look totally crazy pants.

JUBA, 31 MAY 2023: The Human Rights Division of the UN Peacekeeping mission, UNMISS, hosted a consultation on promoting accountability and identifying key challenges within the justice system in Central Equatoria state. ACCOUNTABILITY is not about finding a scapegoat when things go wrong. ACCOUNTABILITY is about ownership. We owe our situations and circumstances. We owe our behaviour and our actions. We owe our life. – Sanjeev Himachali

Just half a pound off this week but, given the diet I was on to prep for my visit to the hospital this week, I'm very happy with that!

15.5lbs in total.

The Texas Tribune: A Video Accountability Happy Hour at The North Door--March 2014

On Tuesday, August 26th, BYP 100 organized a march to and action at the CPD Headquarters at 3510 S. Michigan to draw attention to the fact that while Chicago police officers have the discretion to issue tickets rather than arrest people for minor possession of marijuana, they are 15 times more likely to arrest Black people as opposed to White people. BYP100 called on the community to hold CPD and Supt. Garry McCarthy accountable for this racist practice and demanded a meeting with McCarthy.
