'Government Accountability' editorial cartoon by Jeff Langcaon for Island Insights hosted by Dan Boylan. Island Insights is a live, one-hour discussion program which addresses issues affecting life in our Hawaiian Islands. Island Insights can be seen on Thursday evenings at 7:30 on PBS Hawaii.
Despite Greece imposing severe persecution upon me ever since my unlawful expulsion from Sweden in September 2015, my persistent endeavors to acquire legal aid for my defense at the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) and domestically have been unfruitful.
The Greek Courts have been consistently ignoring or denying my entreaties for legal aid without valid reasons, except for my latest case. Nonetheless, the assigned lawyer has not fulfilled his duties satisfactorily.
Before revisiting the Athens Bar Association for this matter once again, I also pursued another issue regarding two other complaints submitted to them in September 2019. These complaints were against two lawyers affiliated with the Hellenic Action for Human Rights (H.A.HU.R.) for their deceitfulness and failure to submit my case to the ECHR. They had undertaken this task in May 2018.

Building capacity to increasing the legitimacy of CSOs: a view across the spectrum of self-regulation and accountability
Format: Engagement workshop (1h30)
Summary: If civil society organisations are to be truly effective as a voice for citizens around the world, they need to work hard on standards for continuous improvement of their own governance, as a way to better respond to expectations from citizens, funders, volunteers, staff, and other stakeholders who are increasingly expecting demonstrations of good governance and better impact. CSO self-regulation mechanisms are therefore required, but these need to be by and for civil society rather than be imposed by funders or governments.
The three presenters will convey the varying expectations and challenges faced in their three different countries and regions when CSOs decide to embrace self-regulation, and the implication of this in their work with governments at different levels, mass media, social networks, international cooperation agencies and other relevant actors. Imagine Canada will present its newly launched programme of rigorous peer review, which aims at helping CSOs to improve their practice in the areas of board governance, financial transparency and accountability, fundraising, staff management and volunteer involvement, while responding to the new expectations of society. The Latin American network Rendir Cuentas will present a regional perspective on these issuess.

It is very important that we hold ourselves accountable before God for each sin that we have ever committed, and not simply rely on those three Hail Marys we were given by that “nice priest” in the Confessional. I think I should instruct the people to pray fifteen decades of the Rosary for every mortal sin they have ever committed, or at least those that they can remember after making a good examination of conscience.
At Judgment, God does not simply look at the “big picture,” or the term coined by one progressivist theologian, Joseph Fuchs, our “fundamental option.” He examines every single decision we have made in our lifetime, and demands an account for each one. Even if we die in a state of grace, our Purgatory can be very long, especially for the mortal sins forgiven in the tribunal of God’s mercy, but not fully expiated. In his book Purgatory Explained, Fr. F.X. Schouppe, S.J., wrote that on an average, a person suffers seven years in Purgatory for every mortal sin. If that is accurate, some might have a few centuries to think about and repair for what they have done.
