The art museum in Basel has a new building - since quite a while actually. The artwork itself is fasnicating, the architecture know how to impress as well.

This is a hotel in the Dutch city of Rotterdam. Its striking sunshades with festive stripe patterns immediately caught my attention. The title is no coincidence, as the building used to host the main office Holland America Line, which was an ocean steamer company that brought many European emigrants to the US in the 19th and 20th centuries. The building overlooks the port of Rotterdam and since 1993 its new life started as Hotel New York. In 2000 it became a national heritage site.
