Some days, when allowed the luxury of cruising calmly to various quiet inlets and simply sitting and absorbing the details of these truly remarkable surroundings, one is easily transported back in time. The only sounds the frogs and birds calling; dragonflies of innumerable species darting through the air and landing on the untold variety of plants lining the shoreline; turtles basking in the sun and fish flashing through the clear waters below....a primordial world in which you feel almost an intruder disrupting the harmony of things which have existed for millennia. And you feel that way because you are...so you attempt to paddle very quietly away.

L'invecchiamento del vino in barrique è un processo lento e poetico durante il quale il vino respira e matura, assorbendo gli aromi del legno per raggiungere la perfezione.

A late afternoons dander in a beautiful part of Wales, trees are so majestic they hold secrets never to be disclosed, always secret, silent and absorbing.

Today I hiked through a forest as the fog was settling over it. The moss and lichen was absorbing it like sponges. It's where I needed to be.

Absorbing all the colors of Autumn!

I put this old rotting tree stump up on a garden wall and sprinkled it with sunflower hearts. The woodpecker hammered great pieces off looking for insects. Apparently they have a shock absorbing skull which is handy.

Amazing how little they are, how brilliant (iridescent) colors they can have, how fast they move around and how they manage to hover in front of flowers when absorbing the nectar!

Many urban areas in Alberta have abundant natural areas and lie immediately adjacent to productive agricultural or other natural landscapes. Additionally, many urban areas contain river valleys that act as natural travel corridors for coyotes and other wildlife species.

It was all just a joke

And it grew and grew, absorbing me

And suddenly I found myself so completely yours

I saw my strength tied to your steps

I saw that without you there is no way, I couldn't find myself

I saw a great love screaming inside me

Like I dreamed one day...

When my world was more world

And everyone admitted

A very strange turn

More purity, more caring more calm, more joy

On my way to give myself...

When the song became clearer and felt

When poetry really made fling in my life

You came out to tell me about this unexpected passion

By someone else...

But don't have revolt, no

I just want you to find yourself

Longing even that's good

It's better than walking empty

Hope is a gift

That I have in me, yes I have...

Don't have hopelessness, no

You taught me a million things

I have a dream in my hands

Tomorrow will be a new day

I'll certainly be much happier...

Serenity of the Storm was inspired by the pose: Stigmata Martyr from By My Mannequin?. As soon as I saw the pose, I knew it had lots of potential! I saw myself in the middle of a storm, arched and letting myself get soaked by the rain and listening to the rumble of thunder all around me; just absorbing that chaotic, beautiful energy of the storm. You can find Stigmata Martyr at Be My Mannequin?'s main store or on marketplace!

I watched as the storm clouds began rolling in, distant thunder booming and steadily getting louder and louder. It was sure to be a good one! I kicked off my shoes and walked straight out to the field and laid out, staring up at the darkening sky. With a boom of thunder and flash of lightning, the sky suddenly opened up and I was immediately drenched by the downpour. I closed my eyes and arched up my back almost as if in offering. Gods, this was bliss. The chaos and power behind the storm was its own brand of magic. There was a special kind of serenity of the storm and I was living for it.

This was the weather that greeted us on our first day this trip. Cool, misty and nicely moody. Patiently waited, but the fog never lifted to allow a peek at the amazing peaks above. Even so, I had a memorable time here cleansing my soul, breathing in the crisp, fresh air and absorbing this enchantment.

Fortunately we returned later and were blessed with the full bonanza of stunning beauty that is Lake Moraine and the Ten Peaks. One posted earlier, more to come in the months to come.

Always appreciate your views, comments and suggestions.

fungus (plural: fungi or funguses is any member of the group of eukaryotic organisms that includes microorganisms such as yeasts and molds, as well as the more familiar mushrooms. These organisms are classified as a kingdom, separately from the other eukaryotic kingdoms, which by one traditional classification include Plantae, Animalia, Protozoa, and Chromista.

A characteristic that places fungi in a different kingdom from plants, bacteria, and some protists is chitin in their cell walls. Fungi, like animals, are heterotrophs; they acquire their food by absorbing dissolved molecules, typically by secreting digestive enzymes into their environment. Fungi do not photosynthesize. Growth is their means of mobility, except for spores (a few of which are flagellated), which may travel through the air or water. Fungi are the principal decomposers in ecological systems. These and other differences place fungi in a single group of related organisms, named the Eumycota (true fungi or Eumycetes), that share a common ancestor (i.e. they form a monophyletic group), an interpretation that is also strongly supported by molecular phylogenetics. This fungal group is distinct from the structurally similar myxomycetes (slime molds) and oomycetes (water molds). The discipline of biology devoted to the study of fungi is known as mycology (from the Greek μύκης mykes, mushroom). In the past, mycology was regarded as a branch of botany, although it is now known fungi are genetically more closely related to animals than to plants.

Abundant worldwide, most fungi are inconspicuous because of the small size of their structures, and their cryptic lifestyles in soil or on dead matter. Fungi include symbionts of plants, animals, or other fungi and also parasites. They may become noticeable when fruiting, either as mushrooms or as molds. Fungi perform an essential role in the decomposition of organic matter and have fundamental roles in nutrient cycling and exchange in the environment. They have long been used as a direct source of human food, in the form of mushrooms and truffles; as a leavening agent for bread; and in the fermentation of various food products, such as wine, beer, and soy sauce. Since the 1940s, fungi have been used for the production of antibiotics, and, more recently, various enzymes produced by fungi are used industrially and in detergents. Fungi are also used as biological pesticides to control weeds, plant diseases and insect pests. Many species produce bioactive compounds called mycotoxins, such as alkaloids and polyketides, that are toxic to animals including humans. The fruiting structures of a few species contain psychotropic compounds and are consumed recreationally or in traditional spiritual ceremonies. Fungi can break down manufactured materials and buildings, and become significant pathogens of humans and other animals. Losses of crops due to fungal diseases (e.g., rice blast disease) or food spoilage can have a large impact on human food supplies and local economies.

The fungus kingdom encompasses an enormous diversity of taxa with varied ecologies, life cycle strategies, and morphologies ranging from unicellular aquatic chytrids to large mushrooms. However, little is known of the true biodiversity of Kingdom Fungi, which has been estimated at 2.2 million to 3.8 million species.[5] Of these, only about 148,000 have been described,[6] with over 8,000 species known to be detrimental to plants and at least 300 that can be pathogenic to humans.[7] Ever since the pioneering 18th and 19th century taxonomical works of Carl Linnaeus, Christiaan Hendrik Persoon, and Elias Magnus Fries, fungi have been classified according to their morphology (e.g., characteristics such as spore color or microscopic features) or physiology. Advances in molecular genetics have opened the way for DNA analysis to be incorporated into taxonomy, which has sometimes challenged the historical groupings based on morphology and other traits. Phylogenetic studies published in the first decade of the 21st century have helped reshape the classification within Kingdom Fungi, which is divided into one subkingdom, seven phyla, and ten subphyla.

I talked to the Owl telling it how beautiful it was and the Owl’s eyes would close as if it was absorbing my words. More likely the tone of my voice, but it helped, it was still perched in the same place when I walked away. One encounter I will never forget.

Specialized feathers of the owl enable near-silent flight by altering air turbulence and absorbing noise. The leading edge of an owls feather reduces noise. Owls are known as silent predators of the night, capable of flying just inches from their prey without being detected. I couldn't hear a thing as he swooped down near me. Hand held

I was out cutting down a dead tree for firewood on my land with my snowmobile and chain-saw when I noticed this owl, once I got home with the wood I came back with my camera and found him in the same spot. He didn't mind the noise of my skidoo at all when I pulled up so I stayed for about an hour in the middle of my field sitting and waiting for it to hunt. It was an hour well spent. The great grey only captured one mouse. I think it was due to the snow being so hard packed. Photo below (hand held)

There are always people who immerse themselves in art ...

such an intimate moment as a woman approaches this wonderful picture timidly, full of awe, in black, with fiery hair and shoes like that light and color mood, the atmosphere of warmth completely absorbing the illuminated room ...

The overall mood matches Otto Piene's smoke pictures. The traces of fire and smoke are important elements in these works exposed to flames.

I'm not sure what kind of bug this was, but, judging from the wing covers, it was a true bug. It was sitting on the leaf of one of the Asclepias tuberosa, butterflyweed, plants in my wife's flower garden, absorbing the morning sunlight.

But in October what a feast to the eye our woods and groves present! The whole body of the air seems enriched by their calm, slow radiance. They are giving back the light they have been absorbing from the sun all summer :-)

Happy Truck Thursday!

The guy absorbing some "vitamin D" by taking sunbathing :))

Thank you for your kind visits!.

Have lost all track of the number of times I've climbed to the top of this knoll in the local cemetery. It's as if no visit here is complete until I reach the summit, the proverbial high ground where the oldest graves were situated. I often take photographs here. But just as often simply stand at the very top absorbing the energy of the place. I sometimes spin about like a weathervane, looking off in all directions. From this vantage point, I can see the entire cemetery. I take in the surrounding graves. Sometimes my eye picks out a specific monument. Other times all I see is a mosaic of stone. On this foggy day, my eye was drawn to the negative space delineated by the edges of the leaves. The shapes created a look of sadness, almost as if the leaves were dripping with sadness. And standing here on the edge of autumn reinforced the notion of passage. Another cycle of life completing in preparation for the next one to begin. A wonderful metaphor for edging up to the boundary point.

Water beads or gel beads or crystal gel is any gel which absorbs and contains a large amount of water. Water gel is usually in spherical form and composed of a water-absorbing superabsorbent polymer (SAP, also known as slush powder in dry form) such as a polyacrylamide (frequently Sodium polyacrylate). When dry they are slightly larger than a mustard seed and can grow to about the size of a marble when saturated.

"Although it is called the “epiphyllum orchid cactus” it is not an orchid but a cactus. Like an orchid, the epiphyllum is an epiphyte. But not parasitic! It sustains itself by absorbing sustenance from the air instead of from the vegetation on which it fastens.

Many people pass up anything listed in the cactus group. They immediately think of stickers and thorns. However, the decorative, free-flowering epiphyllum has no thorns. It is easier to cultivate in the average home than the orchid."

You can't beat a good book.

I find woodland photography a challenge making an image from busy chaotic scenes.

But I also find it the most rewarding being able to take photography at a slower pace absorbing the moment of the quiet. Very good soul food.

Thanks for looking.

Caught this fellow spread out flat absorbing the heat from the bitumen ....I wonder if he was thinking what on earth I was doing in the same position.
