With the much anticipated release of LEGO DnD Collectable Minifigures I thought it only appropriate to pick one up and make something inspired by it.

See how I built it over on youtube: youtu.be/1_oVWlNvf_w

What a surprise...

the other day I got a large box in the mail. When I shook the box, it sure sounded like Legos...

I mean we all know what Legos sound like in a box, right?

A friend sent me the cutest countdown to spring with

small boxes and dates to open them on.

Little sayings were included in each box with the last box celebrating the Spring Equinox.

This is the first box I opened.

"we do not need magic

to transform our world.

We carry all of the

power we need inside

of ourselves already.

~~J.K. Rowling

I don't usually submit to LEGO Ideas, but the 50 Years of Dungeons & Dragons contest got me excited to build some characters. My initial idea was to build around 12 characters, but then I thought that it's too much for a single set, so I stopped at number 8 :D

I've included 8 different classes and races:

- Gnome Wizard

- Elf Ranger

- Aarakocra Monk

- Human Fighter

- DragonBorn Paladin

- Tiefling Sorcerer

- Dwarf Cleric

- Half Orc Barbarian

I had so much fun building these and I think they would look awesome as a real LEGO set or sets, if they were to be sold separately or in packs.

From left to right:

Holier than holy - Paladin, Cleric and a Deva. I didn't pick races here - I'll leave it to your imagination! I have to say, this stand for the Paladin was problematic enough for me to say plenty of truly unholy words trying to make it.

Shadow Gang - Drow Warrior, Human Rogue and Deep Gnome Warlock. These guys have truly secret origins, both in the setting and in lego world!

Wizard and his Planar Allies: Deva, Djinni and Cambion. I am particularly proud of the angel lady here. Of course for minifig AFOLs combining two minifigures into one is most basic technique available, but for me combining Orion from Series 26 with Aarakocra from DnD series was a major aha! moment. The very same Orion became a Djinni.

PUTKIN PRESENTS: THE HAILBIRD.

"Today's display is a weapon that's as sharp as its past is vicious. This here halberd got its name from its wielders over the ages. It was said that long ago, when the aarakocra were at war with the humans--long before the kingdom had the name "Allabast"--this polearm was wielded by a particularly fierce, winged warrior by the name of Callip Bloodbeak. So ferocious was the warrior that the humans began to hear tales of his combat prowess, framed as frightening war stories. He was a terror and a menace to them, striking from above with his extended reach at an alarming pace, carving up his enemies with ease. One myth that began to spread among the human soldiers told of a time when, with the halberd he wielded, he cleaved a bolt from a ballista in two, without so much as flinching. Another spoke of the warrior as striking with the fervor and frequency of a hailstorm, as though he were unleashing multiple projectiles at his enemies from above. So swift were his strikes, that he had garnered a reputation on the battlefield. It is said that ol' Bloodbeak heard the humans crying out as he charged at them in one battle, 'it's him--it's the hail bird,' and he decided to adopt the name for his weapon, as a symbol of fear to the enemies.

"Now, whether any of that is true or not, I don't have a clue. If you ask me, it sounds like someone with a funny accent tried to read the word 'halberd' and failed, giving us the weapon's name. But that's decidedly less cool, isn't it? Regardless, this weapon is said to have ties to the aarakocra in magical terms as well. Supposedly, the wielder of this weapon is granted a tailwind that increases the speed at which they can fly, as well as the ability to strike as rapidly as its fabled original wielder. Again, is any of this true? I have no idea, I don't really wield halberds, and my boss doesn't let me stay down here long enough to attune to these things. But it sure sounds cool!"

Years ago for Halloween I was a human embodiment of r/birdswitharms

Ironically years later I chose to be an Aarakocra in our twitch.tv/murdrous DND stream we do on Mondays, which is a bird with arms basically. Anyway here's that mask.

This Aarakocra is a bird-like species that originates from the D&D franchise. A subscriber of mine on Youtube requested that I build one. He left the colors and size up to me, so that gave me a little freedom for this particular build. Tell me what you guys think!
