Today I spent the day at an inspiring ICT Conference.

Russell Prue was the fantastic, energetic and hilarious keynote speaker. His subject was 'Extending & Invigorating ICT'. Russell regularly predicts future developments in technology. As an ICT Evangelist, he presents a strategic vision to a wide range of audiences both in the UK and abroad. If you ever get a chance to see him, do!

I definately felt extended and invigorated!! In addition to loads of brilliant ideas to take back to school I also received this prize, Whoo-hoo!!. Our school WON a 'Hoscar' for a stop-frame animation film which I made with a year 6 pupil.

The winning film which is going to be put on the Grid for Learning website.

Columba’s Isle

Inchcolm means ‘Columba’s Isle’, though the ‘Iona of the east’ has no known link with St Columba. The island is dominated by its dramatically located abbey complex, comprising the best-preserved group of monastic buildings in Scotland. The Augustinian canons settled here in the early 12th century, enjoying the island’s isolation and tranquillity. However, its location in the Firth of Forth also made it a target for English naval raids throughout the wars with England from the 14th to the mid-16th century. The brethren increasingly spent more time ashore in Fife. After the Protestant Reformation of 1560 brought monastic life to an end, the island continued to serve in the defence of the country right up to the Second World War. The island’s remains testify to this history of conflict as well as the history of the medieval church in Scotland.

With not much to do but watch wort cool, we pretty quickly moved on to Ale Ephant 3. This batch of Ale Ephant was the first one I went all-grain with. We brewed this bad boy on New Year's day this year, and most of it went into kitty for my Memorial Day BBQ.

A whopping 20 lbs of grain, plus a pound of candi sugar, was the base for this beer. 10 ounces of hops went into the boil, and an extra ounce into dry hopping it. That all led to an ABV right around 8%, and an estimated 242 IBUs!

This beer was delicious on Memorial Day, and it's still delicious now. Hoppy, but not overly bitter, and not too dry either.

The Bridge is Situated below the Castle and in direct line to Wallace Monument. Built in the 15th or early 16th century. the southern arch got rebuilt in 1749 after it got blown up during the Rising in 1745. Best of all it's to this day in its original use...

A day after transferring, Mr. Orange & Mr. Pink were settling out quite well. as the yeast finish floculation, all the solids will fall to the bottom & the beer should get darker, and clearer.

Day 236/365 - Here's my arm, where they went in for nerve reassignment surgery. The scar looks a lot better than it did right after I got the bandages off (see Day 208 here), but most of the improvement seems to have come in the 1st week... It still looks pretty much the same now as it did three weeks ago! Hopefully, it will finish healing up one of these days...

Cedric, watching the brew session from the shade of the garage. I believe his mom Marielle is sitting next to him... After getting really sunburned brewing the Left Hand Steam Ale a few weeks back, we decided to get smart this time, move the chairs into the garage, and buy some SPF-30 fishing shirts to keep the sun off. They may be long sleeved, but the shirts breath better, and certainly kept us from getting so sunburned!

What a difference a week makes! I let the cedar soak in vodka for a whole week, since the beer was taking it's sweet time fermenting, and this is the result. The chips are MUCH darker than the original, and the vodka is at a lower level. Guess the cedar really soaked up a lot of the liquid!
