Excuse me, have you seen any ununsual ongoings?

Unusual? As in things I wouldn't want to happen? No officer, nothing of the sort!

But you look like...

Definitely not, officer! We're honest, law avoiding citizens!

my head is spinning from flat-buying this week. I never realised how complicated it would be!

River bend in Serbia near Ovcar Kablar mountains, gosh I don't remember the name of the river, this viewpoint was not easy to find, you need to drive on a single lane paved road in bad condition that dead ends at a seemingly abandoned village and walk up first a 4x4 road and then a trail marked by paint signs, the viewpoint itself can be quite dangerous if you want to avoid the tree branches, having suffered a fall only 3 years ago, I didn't take the risk and thus I have those distracting branches in the frame. It takes about 20-30 minutes hike from the end of normal car capabilities to this spot.

Avoiding the spiritualists and ghosthunters at Roche Abbey in the dark!

Sunrise seen through the haze in Toronto. People with respiratory issues should avoid being outdoors for long.

I've always avoided doing DSOs in Moonlight but a while back, I bought an Optolong L-eNhance Triband filter which can be helpful in reducing light pollution and stray Moonlight - it predominantly passes 3 narrow band widths centred on:

Hydrogen Alpha: Red, 656.4 nm

Oxygen III: Green, 500.7nm

Hydrogen Beta: Green-Blue, 486 nm

The filter is certainly more opaque than my standard IDAS P3 light pollution suppression filter. Usually my flats are exposed at 1600ms but for this filter it was 6500ms at 0 gain. Autofocus and plate solving exposures were 4s at 578 gain.

The raw image was lacking in contrast - not surprising given the Moonlight but I've used curves enhancement and local contrast enhancement in PixInsight to improve that. I haven't altered the colour palette as this was a first test for this filter.

Evening biomass empties from Drax head back to Tyne Dock along the York avoider hauked by GBRf's 60095. How will this look in 2022? All is set to become vey enclosed around here as York Central takes shape on the left side.

St. Mary's by the Sea in its idyllic location looking out to the Coral Sea (even though it looks like a blizzard) in Port Douglas, tropical Far North Queensland. St Mary's by the Sea. During the day, the church is open to the public but unstaffed and as such the altar is left bare to avoid theft.

"The iconic St Mary's by The Sea chapel is one of the most picturesque churches in the country. However, it's wooden and stained glass interior also holds a vivid history.

According to the Douglas Shire Historical Society, the church was blessed and opened on March 6, 1881 on Grant Street. A temporary chapel, later to become the Presbytery, was built in 1878 at an unknown location.

However, the presbytery and church were completely destroyed by a cyclone on March 16, 1911, which left only seven out of 57 houses in the Port Douglas standing and 100 people homeless.

A new presbytery was soon built on the Grant Street site and the second St Mary's was opened and blessed on August 30, 1914.

Come 1986, St Mary's was the only church left in Port Douglas and in danger of being demolished. This was a time of intense development for the town and many buildings had already been demolished. To the local townspeople, it became imperative that the last remaining church of historical significance should be preserved.

The then Douglas Shire Council provided a site at Dixie Street, bordering Market Park, on the undertaking that the relocation work, restoration and ongoing upkeep and maintenance would never become a burden on the ratepayer.

St Mary's church was finally transported to the present site near the Sugar Wharf on November 11, 1988, beginning a long year of restoration by Port Douglas Restoration Society, originally the "Save the Church" group.

After its transportation to the new site, it was renamed St. Mary's by the Sea and underwent tremendous restoration under the guidance of the Port Douglas Restoration Society, with much fund-raising, generosity and goodwill by the local townspeople, finally becoming the much loved icon that it is today.

St Mary's by the Sea is now one of the oldest buildings in Port Douglas and is a non-denominational place of worship and for the conduct of Port Douglas weddings, christenings, memorial services and funerals.

Set in tranquil tropical gardens and parks, the church is surrounded by breathtaking natural scenery including views of the Coral Sea and the surrounding mountain ranges, which can be viewed from inside the church via the magnificent glass altar window.

Ornate tropical flowers are also featured in the stained glass, with highly polished pews and white painted interior making the ideal Port Douglas venue for weddings with couples from across the globe choosing to exchange their vows at the lovely chapel.

Thanks to the Port Douglas Historical Society (www.douglas-shire-historical-society.org ) and Port Douglas Restoration Society Inc (www.portdouglasrestorations.com ) for providing information for this article."

Because they are endangered, many Piping Plovers are banded. This particular one is one of the first I've seen this season and has avoided being banded.

it was at about this point we decided to climb straight up the valley's edge instead of carrying on up the Nick. The rocky scree up the Nick looked harder work than just clambering up..

Coccinellidae is a widespread family of small beetles. They are commonly known as ladybugs in North America and ladybirds in the United Kingdom; "lady" refers to mother Mary. Entomologists use the names ladybird beetles or lady beetles to avoid confusion with true bugs. Wikipedia

You probably wonder what is that horse with stripes and paint markings ?! Well, let me answer that question. It's a cute cross between a paint horse and a zebra. Hence why it does have those cute ears and strange tail. We are so glad she take the markings from her mama and the stripes from her dad. So happy to be able to call this cutie ours, she'll grow up a little more but not so much cause we all know, zebras aren't that tall !

You might have another question about the collar the mare have on her neck, well, this pretty here is cribbing on fences that means she'll literally destroy them with her teeth ! This collar will avoid her to do, don't worry it's without danger for her, it have a little furred part on the top and under her jaw as well. It will prevent us as well to change the fences every weeks.. We'll see how it goes !

Rush hour traffic starts to build in Cardiff, whilst 153309 whizzes over the top and into Cardiff Queen Street. 2V47 18:15 Coryton to Radyr.

I was at the Copper River Shorebird Festival and had been out to Hartney Bay, but there the birds stayed far far away, which I believe was in part because young children were allowed to run around on the mud flats to play and because everybody else walked out there as well. Of course the birds were going to avoid the people there.

The next morning I walked down to the harbor and managed to climb down below the levy next to Odiak Slough and I was by myself. The tide was still out and I could see the large flocks of Western Sandpipers feeding further away from me, so I crouched down and stayed motionless to see what they would do. To my delight they started to swirl towards me and land and feed, each time getting closer and closer until I had birds less than twenty feet from me. I continued to shoot them as they came closer and started to focus on solitary birds in the flock as they looked for food. The birds continued to come ever closer and finally were running and flying past me to find food behind me. They flew so close I could swear they were brushing against my jacket.

And as they continued to move in mass past me I could smell them and they smelled like rotten fish - probably bad breath from eating all those small crustaceans! After they had completely passed I managed to stand but my legs were stiff from having crouched down all that while. But no one else had been there to scare the birds away! What an experience!

When I was young, my relatives incorrectly told me that the bridge in this image was called Hell’s Gate and that it got that name because it was a bad nasty place and with all the graffiti I should avoid the entire area. It is actually called Hell Gate Bridge though officially it was called New York Connecting Railroad Bridge when it opened back in 1917. Hell Gate refers to the narrow strait of water the bridge crosses which is actually a bastardized English version of the Dutch name for the strait and actually the whole East River which was Hellegat which roughly translated means bright strait or a clear opening.

Big railroad power broker Pennsylvania Railroad (PRR) was looking to be the first rail service to connect Philadelphia to New England and eventually as far south as the nation’s capital Washington DC. While the Hudson River which separated Manhattan and New Jersey was eventually connect by PRR’s rail tunnels under the River, the decision was made because of the topography of this area to build a bridge or bridges. PRR hired Gustav Lindenthal who had been serving as the City of New York’s Bridge Commissioner since 1902, opening the Williamsburg Bridge in 1904 and overseeing the construction of the Manhattan Bridge and the Queensboro Bridge. Lindenthal hired 95 engineers to calculate how the weight of the trains would be borne by various parts of the bridge. The end result was bridge that could sustain the weight of 60 locomotives and structure so sturdy, it is said it could last projected 1000 years. When it opened in 1917, it was in fact longest, heaviest, strongest steel arch bridge in the world at that time and the first & only four-track-long span rail bridge ever built.

Today, the two southernmost tracks are part of Amtrak’s northeast corridor and the northern track adjacent to the Amtrak tracks is used by freight lines like CSX and Norfork Southern. Back in 2008, I remember riding back from Boston on Amtrak’s Acela and the view of Manhattan from this bridge’s vantage point was beautiful. Geeze! Yesterday evening was hectic! Highway 401, 409 and 427 were all jampacked! Luckily I escaped and found some side roads to take.

This is right under the 427 and boy was it noisy!

Anywho, looks like the rain today (Friday) will drive away all that heat! I'm sure many people are relieved!

Wishing everyone a HAPPY WEEKEND!

The ocean was alive and well and the birds were intent on staying alive as well

Whatever the photographic output, this guy is obviously doing something right. But like with everything else, there is a flipside: if he ever decides to shift his photographic attention and takes less photos of her, be will be in dire need of a bridge over troubled water...

PS it just so happens that the vatican is over to the left of this shot below that sullen cloud :-)
