The projector I got was the Panasonic PT-AX100U, which I got for just under $1900 shipped (there's also a $200 rebate). I was considering the Mitsubishi HD1000U but ultimately went w/ the Panasonic because 1) it was brighter and 2) it was much more flexible in terms of image placement. Also, it seems in general to be enough of a quality improvement to justify the price.

Out of the box it looks great, and is even decent w/ a fair amount of ambient light, which is a bonus. I messed a bit with the zoom, and image shifting, which is great. Looks like I'll be able to mount it on my loft-area (about 35ft back) and get a nice wall-size image.
