This was shot on a random dark road somewhere 30 minutes outside of Reykjavik that probably only our driver Siggi knows where it's located.
You hear stories of people going to Iceland to see the Northern Lights and not seeing them the entire time there and others getting full-blown auroras with crazy dancing lights. Well, we didn't quite get the crazy dancing lights here, but we were still quite lucky to see them on the very first night we arrived and then a second time about a week later, so no complaints.
This was my first time attempting to shoot the Northern Lights and I had little astrophotography experience in general so it was a bit of a struggle at first to get good results, but through lots of trial and error you have the result seen here :)
It has been way to long since my last post here, I'll try to update my page more frequently in 2017. This picture was taken a few weeks ago, I had spent the day out photographing and on my way home I suddenly noticed the auroras dancing.
Being in a hurry to get to a somewhat decent spot and start photographing, I forgot my gloves in the car. Did not notice the temperature being minus 25 degrees C until I got back to the car again... #tobusytontice #frozenfingers

La natura può allestire spettacoli straordinari. Il palcoscenico è immenso, le luci strabilianti, le comparse infinite e il budget per gli effetti speciali illimitato.

Experimenting with timelapse stacking - this is 61 shots stacked to create a visual of how the lights (and stars) moved during a recent show. Lots of fun to play with this technique!
I took this picture of me 2 weeks back, when I was out "hunting" auroras with a good friend. The auroras show wasn´t that great, so we ended up testing how to use different light sources. In front of me we had built a small fire, but it was too windy to use it in a way we had hoped for, but I think it gave the tree on the left a nice glow in this picture. I also liked the way the light beam from my headlight turned out. I guess we will have to find another night with more aurora activity and less wind to try the fire thing once more. Have a great weekend, and happy holidays to everyone! All comments and favs are greatly appreciated.
Outside Harstad in the neighboring municipality Kvæfjord you will find Nupen, a popular viewing point to see the midnight sun! Nupen is named "Norway's most romantic place" by a recognized travel magazine.
The Aurora Borealis - Northern Lights appearing above an old cow shed on the top of Binevenagh Mountain, outside Limavady, County Derry, Northern Ireland. 21st December 2015.

A geomagnetic storm on August 3rd produced this beautiful display of northern lights seen here and reflected in the mirror smooth surface of Clear Lake in Riding Mountain National Park in Manitoba, Canada.
If you look closely at the sky, you may be able to find the Big Dipper, which gives some scale to the epic light show in the sky.
I've been keeping track of Aurora Australis activity trying to finally get a decent shot of the 'green glow'. This is about as good as it gets from mainland Australia. Would love to head down to Tazzy, or even Antarctica one day.
5 frames stitched.
Still the first day of photo tour in south of Iceland, on our way to our accomondation, there was suddenly a full blown show in the sky that made the fourth and last location of the day
A shot from the fantastic evening 17 March, 2015.
I will never forget how amazing it was to stand there under the Northern Lights.

Taken on November 3rd around 8.30pm from Chanonry Point. The high clouds give a nice structure to the aurora.
