Sunrise on a frosty morning

A panoramic view of the west end of the Downtown Dallas skyline as it rises over an abandoned parking garage originally built for the now-demolished Reunion Arena.

Civita di Bagnoregio is a town in the Province of Viterbo in central Italy, a suburb of the comune of Bagnoregio.

The town is noted for its striking position atop a plateau of friable volcanic tuff overlooking the Tiber river valley. It is in constant danger of destruction as the edges of the plateau collapse due to erosion, leaving the buildings to crumble as their underlying support falls away. As of 2004, there were plans to reinforce the plateau with steel rods to prevent further geological damage.

The city is also much admired for its architecture spanning several hundred years. Civita di Bagnoregio owes much of its unaltered condition to its relative isolation; the town was able to withstand most intrusions of modernity as well as the destruction brought by two world wars. The population today varies from about 7 people in winter to more than 100 in summer.

The town was placed on the World Monuments Fund's 2006 Watch List of the 100 Most Endangered Sites, because of threats it faces from erosion and unregulated tourism.

City as far as the eye can see...

After a long walk up to the trestle, it took a couple of minutes for the train to reach the bridge. You could hear the train grinding up the hill quite well, but it took it a bit to show its face. Soon enough, I sent the drone up to the bridge while hoping to get a one of a kind shot. I'm not disappointed, although the power could've been blue!

(I'm finally getting back into Flickr - have been off helping my brother move and other camera club business - hope to continue to be more regular again but may be gaps - it is good to be back)

That said - start this Friday with a cheerful HFF with a Eastern Bluebird perched atop!

Stand atop Signal Hill and let your soul be stirred by the crack of muskets and the roar of cannon fire. Discover the story of how British and French soldiers battled fiercely to control this strategic location. Explore the iconic Cabot Tower and experience a view of St. John's and the North Atlantic that is truly spectacular.

As its name implies, centuries before the advent of ship-to-shore radio, signalman perched on Signal Hill surveyed the ocean for ships headed toward the port of St. John's. Flag signals flown on the hill communicated the names of arriving ships to those who inhabited the harbourfront below.

Take a journey back in time to 1901 when the famous Guglielmo Marconi made communications history at Signal Hill by receiving the first ever transatlantic wireless signal. Nfld and Labrador Tourism

I'm usually pretty on it with these things up, but as soon as I started the walk-in from Barber Booth at 16:30, I realised I'd completely messed up my timings 😆 Sunset was due at 17:49, and my intended destination was Swine's Back on Kinder. Hmmmm, yes. Anyway, I had my headtorch so decided I'd use it as practice to see how quickly I could cover the 2.5 miles get up there. Channelling my inner whippet I somehow arrived just before the sun dropped beneath this huge bank of cloud and lit up the landscape.

I'd walked under Swine's Back many a time, but never over the top so had no idea what to expect, and hadn't had much luck finding images looking towards Mount Famine and South Head from there. Turns out it's alright (IMHO)!

We made it to the top! It was cold and VERY windy so we took shelter behind a rock for some welcome lunch :)

Blue skies over the hills in the outskirts of Pocatello, Idaho.

Atop Bredon Hill watching a rain storm cross the Severn Valley while the Malverns go a last peek of sunlight. Quite spectacular...until the rainstorm hit Bredon Hill and I got soaked. Well worth it though!

Climbing atop a hill for a good shit if the fort...totally worth it :D

This is Muckle Flugga Lighthouse the most northernly Lighthouse in the British Isles at Hermaness in Unst, Shetland Isles. Once manned it now lights up on its own. Best viewed large!!

Southeast Utah. The fifty mph wind gusts are trying to blow my brother away. Sand and dirt sting our faces. But a fine adventure…

So, i've been missing from Flickr for a while... So, hello again.

View from atop the highest peak in Malalison Island, Culasi, Antique province. A rock outcrop called Nablag Islet is in the left background.

Smudge atop Gairich, a mountain on the edge of the rough bounds of Knoydart, a relatively unpopulated, other than deer, part of Scotland. The mists cleared from the tops for a wee while so Smudge availed himself of that to go into deers spotting mode ... :)

Looking northwest into the Yosemite Valley from the top of Sentinel Dome, on the trail near the end of Glacier Point Road. Photographed 10-11-2018 and processed 09-10-19.

The Marksburg sits atop a 160m slate cone promontory and its walls are more than pretty they are plastered quarry stone meters thick to withstand most poundings that cannon could inflict on her walls at the time.

Originally constructed to be a toll castle as part of the Eppstein empire who were the ruling nobility of the 12-13th century in this area very notable for having installed one of their own as the Archbishop of Mainz in 4 successions thus ensuring their success.

In 1283 the castle passed into the hands of the Count of Katzenelnbogen family of Castle Katz fame they also owned Castle Rheinfels where the current Count ruled from until the completion of Castle Katz.

Remaining in the Katzenelnbogen family until the 16th century they put their stamp on it with construction and renovation projects giving it the fairy tale appearance you see today.

I took this with my D750 and Tamron SP 70-200mm 2.8 G2 Lens processed in LR, PS luminosity masks and DXO Nik

Disclaimer: Not trying to be realistic in my editing there is enough realism in the world, my style is a mix of painterly and romanticism as well as a work in progress.
