This photo was taken on a recent trip to the Lake District, England, UK. I'd visited this location on two consecutive days only for the weather to make it impossible to get a shot of this iconic bridge. On my last day in the Lakes I decided to give it one last shot. By some miracle there was a break in the rain and I walked away with this image.

Thanks for looking and if you like this image please feel free to check out some of my other work :)

Not much of the Bridge in this view but still a fantastic view. There can be no better places in the world for Landscape photography than the Lake District in favourable light and conditions, even on gloomy days the light has an amazing saturated and vibrant quality

Lough Ash, Aughabrack - Donemana, Strabane, County Tyrone, Northern Ireland

Whilst awaiting for an overly bright sunset to dim and soften down a little, I walked around the lake facing away from the bright sun and captured this tranquil and calm lake scene instead, Now I just hope my gamble has worked lol

Looking Down On Ash Fork

Here are a few photos that aren't particularly fabulous but that I like for their historical interest. This is Ash Fork, Arizona a little remarked outpost along old US Route 66 long ago bypassed by Interstate 40 and largely left behind by the march of time.

In days of old Ash Fork sat astride the legendary Santa Fe mainline and was even home to its own grand Harvey House hotel and restaurant, the Escalante. But in 1960 the ATSF built the 50 mile long Crookton Cutoff and subsequently abandoned the two mains west of here to Crookton. To the east the original 1882 Atlantic & Pacific mainline which passed through Johnson Canyon and tunnel on a 3% grade was also shuttered.

The circa 1911 ATSF built former eastbound mainline which was retained east from here to a connection with the mainline at Williams Jct. in order to retain access to the mainline to Phoenix commonly known as the 'Peavine.' So what was once an important junction on a transcontinental mainline has now long been relegated to little more than a way point on a secondary route.

Little trace of the old Escalante remains having been demolished by the railroad in 1968. But the old water tank that served it remains proudly emblazoned with a blue Santa Fe cross looming over the remains of the 'town.'

Sitting at the base of 1.8% grade to the east and 3% to the west Ash Fork was once a helper terminal in both directions with all tw facilities to support such. Today little trace of all that railroad activity remains other than a small adobe freight house still standing beside the main and the couple stub tracks in the 'yard' retained for the odd bad order set out or MofW car. At Ash Fork the Phoenix Line has two mileposts 400.9 and 0.0 denoting the demarcation between the historic north end of the branch main and the mileage via what was once the mainline.

At the time I took this trains rarely stopped in town and ran straight through between Phoenix and Winslow, but I understand a year or so ago the Ash Fork crew change was reinstated with crews taxiing to and from Williams to lay over on rest.

Anyway, here is an unidentified eastbound manifest, presumably the daily MPHXBEL headed to Belen, New Mexico smoking past the old freight house headed for the grade up around the Corva Loop on the climb to Williams.

I drove down to Hackberry Flats, a big birding area in southwest Oklahoma. The have a lot of birds migrating through that area.

This is rare bird find in Oklahoma.

I used a 1.4 teleconverter on 500 5.6 lens for the first time. It will take more work.

A week later and our ash is allowing himself to believe that Spring is here. Ironically, the weather has turned cold and wet again, but Ash will continue to hold onto his hope for the Summer.

This old bridge is found just off Derwent Water in the Lake District.

No trip to the Lake District is truly complete for the photographer without coming away with this shot on the memory card! Three different takes on the classic Ashness Pier on the shores of Derwent water in Cumbria. Although the sunset wasn't great I still managed to capture a bit of colour in the sky and water.

Dirt bikes scratching away at Mother Earth—I'm not sure I feel at ease with this sort of weekend pursuit, but their impact has made for a strong image.

Thank you for looking, and I hope you have enjoyed my work

The Pack Horse bridge at Ashness in Keswick is one of the most photographed location in the uk. Seen here in March 2021

During Ash Wednesday, a priest says "Remember that you are dust, and to dust you shall return" when applying ashes to a person's forehead.

.

From mid April when the ash tree was beginning to leaf.

I had just gotten the teleconverter for the X100F which on its crop sensor turns the camera's lens to a 50mm equivalent.

33mm x 1.5 = 49.5mm

Aperture at f/4 blurred the background window just perfectly, while f/2.0 or f/2.8 made it too unrecognizable.

Happy Window Wednesday!

Ash-Throated Flycatcher (Myiarchus cinerascens) - Dartmouth, Nova Scotia

"I knew I should have taken that left turn at Albuquerque."

A rare visitor has arrived in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia. This week I was treated some wonderful looks at this ash-throated flycatcher. A bird with only a handful of records in this province. There are not many flies around this time of year but seemed to be enjoying some berries.

Thanks for visiting!

A side on view of the much photographed Ashness Jetty, on Derwent Water, Cumbria. Loads of mist hugging the water just after sunrise. With Cat Bells and the Derwent Fells beyond.

A quick sketch of one of the leaves from the Ash tree in my garden I think this is dieback.

I live in North Devon, it's here already ~ I think.

This is called an Ash Plantain because of its colour. It is a very common sight in Sri Lanka. From my home garden in Kandana, Sri Lanka.

After my wild camp at Sprinkling Tarn I stopped off at Ashness Jetty on the way home

Ashness Bridge

Going for another classic view today with the well known Ashness Bridge.

This is one I took back in July when I got up there for sunrise, which didn’t really work out the way I thought it would. There was more cloud than the weather forecast predicted.

“Listed as Endangered under the Endangered Species Act, the Ash Meadows Sunray is endemic to the refuge. That means you can't see it anywhere else. That's right, it only lives here at Ash Meadows NWR. This unique plant is blooming now and should bloom through June.” (Ash Meadows NWR)

Happy Birthday Ash!

I wish you a lot of health, happiness, joy and prosperity!

May all your goals and aspirations will come true! That there will always be a smile on your face and that good times will always come fast!

Ash and Pikachu from the Pokémon series.

I started working on this last fall around when Pokémon X/Y came out but didn't like how my joints worked so tabled it for a while. The head still feels a little big and bobbly and standing him up can be a pain but overall it was a fun build :)
