Snowfall on trees growing on the slope of the Hope Slide near Sunshine Valley, BC., remind me of the miniature trees used on an old-style train set I played with as a child. It was an impressive sight but a challenge to capture. There are a ton of historic images in Flickr posted by the BC Highways Department if you want more info on the Hope Slide, Canada's second biggest rock slide.

Al asomarse a esta balconada artificial, (Mirador de Iso) decorada con pinturas de aves rapaces, es cuando el visitante , se da cuenta de que la Foz de Arbaiun es…colosal.
Por algo la denominan ‘la reina de las foces de Navarra‘, y a ese título contribuyen orgullosas unas paredes calizas de más de 300 metros de altura en algunos puntos, y una longitud total de foz de casi seis kilómetros.
Y allí, en lo más hondo de este antológico tajo natural, discurre el caprichoso curso de agua del río Salazar, abriéndose paso, impasible, entre vegetación y caliza, sin darse realmente cuenta de la impresionante obra geológica que ha esculpido, pacientemente y durante millones de años, con su alegre discurrir.
Llaman poderosamente la atención las diferentes tonalidades de las verticales paredes calizas que se alzan imponentes sobre cada orilla, y las enormes grietas y marcas que se pueden apreciar, incluso a modo de repisas naturales, producto de una erosión milenaria por parte de los elementos.
La fuerza y sabiduría de la naturaleza se hacen sentir en la foz de Arbaiun.
Con un poco de suerte, además de contentarte con escuchar de lejos el eco de algún lejano graznido de ave rapaz si llevas prismáticos, es probable que contemples alguno, en su hábitat natural , ya que al no estar su eje natural atravesado por ningún sendero que conlleve el paso de personas, la fauna y flora de este hábitat se ha mantenido casi virgen.
Esto le ha valido el título de reserva natural y zona de especial protección de aves. Los paneles de interpretación nos ofrecen detalles sobre las especies animales, especialmente aves, que habitan la foz, con un protagonismo especial para su gran colonia de buitres leonados.
