This viewpoint is known to many as the Ernst Moritz Arndt lookout. The ledge on the chalk cliffs still stands, offering this view of the coastline in Jasmund National Park on Rügen. "The House of the People [Haus des Volkes] in Probstzella (Thuringia) was built from 1925 to 1927 on behalf of the industrialist Franz Itting by Alfred Arndt and Ernst Gebhardt as a hotel and cultural center. The interior was completely designed by artists of the Bauhaus Dessau, it is the largest Bauhaus ensemble realized in Thuringia. [...]
The House of the People in Probstzella is one of the few realized examples of Bauhaus architecture in Thuringia. The exterior of the building is a hybrid of a traditional saddle-roof structure, which still has a modern look. Inside, the design is free, and thus it is one of the few realized examples of complete interior fittings of the Bauhaus workshops.
When Arndt moved to Dessau with the Bauhaus in 1925, he made friends with Gotthardt Itting, the son of the Thuringian entrepreneur and leading SPD member Franz Itting.
Itting built during this time in Probstzella, located on the southern slopes of the Thuringian Forest and fast train station on the route Nuremberg-Berlin, a hotel with a large hall, which had the character of a People's House and at the same time should stimulate tourism in this region. Arndt saw the very conservative plans of the Saalfeld architect Klapproth and was able to convince the client that a more modern building would be better for his purposes.
After the inspection of the shell, which already stood, Klapproth was compensated, and Arndt took over the construction. From April 1926 Arndt was almost exclusively in Probstzella, although he remained enrolled at the Bauhaus. [...]
Fabrics, furniture, lamps, door handles, everything was created in the Bauhaus workshops. The furniture comes from Arndt, Gebhardt and Breuer, the fabrics and curtains from Marlis Heumann, the lamps from the metal workshop, the furniture fabrics from the Bauhaus weaving mill and the colorful design by Alfred Arndt. Arndt could not change the architecture of the building any more. Despite the cleansing of the façade, the House of the People remained a representative building with striking middle emphasis and some expressionistic details, as can be found in many buildings of this type and purpose throughout Germany. His revision of the plans has certainly contributed to a modern look, but shows that even where he had a free hand, such as in the restaurants, the claims of such an operation in a peculiar manner rub the design principles of the New Building [Neues Bauen]. His architecture is not boastful, modern, rather reserved and determined by the structural conditions of the building, which are highlighted by color design. Ingo Arndt wurde in Frankfurt am Main, Deutschland, geboren. Schon als Kind verbrachte er jede freie Minute draußen in der Natur. Bald erkannte er, dass die Fotografie ein nützliches Werkzeug für den Umweltschutz ist, und so stürzte sich Ingo nach seinem Schulabschluss 1992 in das abenteuerliche Leben eines professionellen Fotografen. Seitdem reist er als freiberuflicher Naturfotograf für längere Zeit um den Globus und fotografiert Reportagen, in denen er Tiere und ihre Lebensräume porträtiert. In den letzten Jahren war er vor allem für GEO und das National Geographic Magazine im Einsatz. Mit seinen Bildern möchte Ingo Arndt das Bewusstsein seiner Betrachter schärfen und ihnen die Großartigkeit der Natur zeigen.
Silke Arndt wurde in Arnsberg, Deutschland, geboren. Nach ihrem Abschluss als Grafikdesignerin arbeitete sie einige Jahre als freiberufliche Designerin. Jetzt leitet sie das Büro des Ehepaars in der Nähe von Frankfurt, von wo aus sie Ingos Bildgeschichten weltweit vermarkten. So oft wie möglich begleitet sie ihren Mann auf seinen Exkursionen und dokumentiert die Erlebnisse mit ihrer Videokamera. Silke hat die meisten von Ingos kürzlich erschienenen Büchern gestaltet. /

Ernst-Moritz-Arndt-Turm, wie er sich heute darstellt. Um den Turm zu besteigen muss man sich den Schlüssel an der Rezeption der Gaststätte "Rugard" holen gegen eine Kaution.
Die Kaution kann der Personalausweis oder die Fahrerlaubnis sein. Fremde Personen dürfen nicht gleichzeitig in den Turm hinein.
Den Schlüssel habe ich und und nun kann die Turmbesteigung losgehen.

Ernst-Moritz-Arndt-Turm auf dem Rugard in Bergen auf Rügen
Der 91 Meter hohe Rugard entstand als Endmoräne während der letzten Eiszeit. Vom 9 Jahrhundert bis Anfang des 14. Jahrhunderts befand sich hier eine Burg der Ranenfürsten, die später verfiel. Die Anhöhe wurde später von einer Mühle genutzt und Felder angelegt. Erst um 1830 ließ Fürst Malte I. zu Putbus den alten Burgwall aufforsten.
Anlässlich des 100. Geburtstages Ernst Moritz Arndts erfolgte die Grundsteinlegung zum Bau eines Aussichtsturmes, der aus finanziellen Problemen aber erst 1877 fertig gestellt wurde. Selbst Kaiser Wilhelm I. steuerte 3.000 Mark zum Bau bei. Zwischen 1935 und 1937 wurde hier ein nationalsozialistischer Thingplatz erbaut, der vor allem von der Hitlerjugend genutzt wurde. Im Zweiten Weltkrieg wurde der Turm durch eine Flakstellung genutzt.

The café pavilion in the park of the “Haus des Volkes” in Probstzella, Germany.
Built between 1925 and 1927 under the direction of Bauhaus architect Alfred Arndt, it formed part of the original ensemble designed to open modern architecture and design to a wider public.
With its flat roof, large glass surfaces, and striking cylindrical metal element, the pavilion exemplifies Bauhaus principles of transparency, geometry, and functionality.
Originally used as a summer café for hotel guests, it was carefully restored in the early 2000s and awarded the German Facade Prize in 2005.
Captured in color with the Leica D-Lux 8 and later rendered in the Leica Classic Look, the image emphasizes both the timeless materiality and the atmosphere of this rare Bauhaus ensemble.

Un'altra serie di foto per una stilista, questa volta l'abito era uno solo. Ho messo sul mio sito ufficiale tutte le foto che abbiamo scelto, anche se per un solo abito bastava sceglierne un paio.
Un plauso alla truccatrice, Ginevra, che ha dato un look perfettamente "Bree Van de Kamp" alla giovanissima modella polacca: sembra uscita davvero da Desperate Housewives. Dal canto mio ho cercato di realizzare delle immagini molto anni cinquanta, con contrasti di colori accesi e (in particolare in questa foto) delle ombre che dessero un sentore un po' da assassini...
Another collaboration with a fashion designer. This time the dress was only one. Thanks to the makeup artist, who crafted a perfect "Bree Van de Kamp" from this beautiful polish model. I decided to give a fifties look to the pictures using bright colors and contrasts, and (especially in this picture) strong shadows on her face to give a "killer" feeling.

Saturday/Sunday, 4/5 September 2021: our temperature is 20C (feels like 20C) shortly after midnight. Sunrise is at 6:55 am and sunset is at 8:13 pm.
Yesterday morning, 4 September, I joined a few friends to go birding at Carburn Park, one of our city parks. The weather was beautiful for a walk.
One of my first photos was of a vivid pink Zinnia growing in one of the flower beds near the parking lot. People have done a great job of replanting and revitalizing the garden.
Two of the birds seen were good to see, Many reports have recently been made of a Short-billed Gull. "The Short-billed Gull was often called “Mew Gull” until 2021, when it was split from the Common Gull of Eurasia and officially renamed. The name Mew Gull has an interesting history. "Mew" is derived not from its catlike call but rather from “zee meeuw,” an old Dutch name for the bird, Zee in Dutch means “sea” and meeuw means “gull.” Thus, the Mew Gull—in Dutch, at least—really is a “sea gull.” From AlIAboutBirds. I think this was the very first time I had seen this species.
Another bird that was good to see was a Broad-winged Hawk. Though not rare, it is uncommon. I only managed to get a very distant shot of the bird, but was happy to see it. Osprey, Bald Eagle, and Cooper's Hawk were also seen, plus a Merlin flying overhead.
Migrating Warblers were the main focus of the walk for eager birders. These small birds are not easy to see and I knew that I would most likely leave the park without seeing a single one. For me, quite a few American White Pelicans, mixed in with Double-crested Cormorants, made up for it; also seeing one of the Porcupines asleep on its tree. Weeks ago, I had managed to see just the rear end of one of them, when it was hiding down in a hollow trunk. I even spotted a mushroom growing on a tree trunk : )
It felt good to get together with a few friends. People are supposed to be being cautious, as we are now in a fourth Covid-19 'wave'. Embarrassing to know Alberta has the highest rate of cases in Canada, by a long way. Just too many people not taking Coronavirus seriously.
