Motorbikes | Motorcycles | Scooters | Tricycles - All Brands

There are approximately 75,000 - 82,000 (ish) Licenced | Registered motorcycles, scooters and tricycles in Hong Kong, it never really changes much and dealers keep large stocks of popular models for immediate delivery due to heavy demand - The Transport Department classifies motorcycles and scooters as the same type of vehicle, personally I prefer the term motorbikes rather than motorcycles .....and yes, Hong Konger‛s love fast bikes.

There is nothing at all unusual about the popularity of motorcycles in Hong Kong, big powerful bikes are a lot more popular than the entry level 125cc and 250cc bikes simply because here you can get a motorcycle from all the major brands that do 190mph + and 0 - 60mph in 2.8 seconds, fast enough to outperform most supercars and even hypercars in Hong Kong and at a fraction of the price of a typical supercar, it is an easy sale. Scooters, well they are popular for food delivery companies!

There are over 125 brands of motorcycles, scooters and trikes for sale in Hong Kong

Motorbikes - the top 7 selling brands of motorbikes as far as I can determine in Hong Kong are as follows

Honda ✚ Yamaha ✚ Suzuki ✚ Kawasaki ✚ Ducati ✚ Harley Davidson ✚ BMW

Scooters - the top 5 selling brands of scooters as far as I can determine in Hong Kong are as follows :

Kymco ✚ Sym ✚ Piaggio ✚ San Yang ✚ Vespa

Tricycles - the top 5 selling brands of tricycles | trikes as far as I can determine in Hong Kong are as follows :

Adiva ✚ BRP ✚ Gilera ✚ Paiggio ✚ Harley Davidson

All the numerous biker clubs are out in force on Sunday‛s when weather permits! It is not unusual to see 50+ big bikes in formation on country roads on Hong Kong Island and the New Territories

Cartoonist Profiles

By Michael Vance

Three years ago in January, Suspended Animation began talking about the world-wide popularity of comic strips. Ninety-seven years ago, the first comic strip, “The Yellow Kid”, began a dialog with the world.

For a big chunk of that time “Cartoonist Profiles” has written about the cartoonists who talk with you through characters like Cathy, Blondie, and Calvin and Hobbes. It’s the official magazine of the Museum of Cartoon Art, located at Westport, Connecticut.

Yes, there is a museum filled with thousands of strips and related materials that you should visit! But, if you can’t go, this museum can make it to your mailbox quarterly. “Cartoonist Profiles” is, regrettably, not sold on many newsstands.

The bulk of this wonderful magazine is dedicated to informal interviews with strip and editorial cartoonists, and gag and comic book professionals. The history of this artform is laced throughout the articles as well as life philosophies, technical information on art, writing and marketing, and photographs.

In the reviews issue, there are interviews with the cartoonists behind “Big Nate”, “Herby and Jamaal”, “Scamp”, “Ella Cinders” and other strip characters. Editorial cartoonist Tom Engelhardt is featured, a short course on caricature is offered, and magazine cartoonist Charles Almon is profiled. If these named don’t ring a bell, examples of their work pepper the entire magazine and their characters are instantly familiar.

If you’re a fan of comics instead of a casual reader, or are an amateur cartoonist looking for information, “Cartoonist Profiles” is indispensable. If you simply enjoy reading comics, there may be more here than you need.

If you want information on the museum and magazine, drop an SASDE to: 281 Bayberry Lane, Westport, CT, 06880. [Editor’s note: this information may be out of date].

You heard it here first.

That was a lot of blood, sweat and tears that went into this piece. And now to find him a new home. He was actually a commissioned piece, but the gal who requested I make him sent three checks, none of which made it to my mailbox. The old "check's in the mail" trick. How odd. After the third check never arrived, I told her I thought it best if we cancelled the deal... so now I need to find him a new owner who will love and treasure him. Any takers? :-)

Great Walsingham lies approximately one mile west of Little Walsingham. In typical 'normal for Norfolk' fashion, it is actually smaller than Little Walsingham.

In 1658, in a field in the village, 40-50 urn burials were unearthed. This inspired Sir Thomas Browne of Norwich to write his Hydriotaphia - Urne-Burial or, A Brief Discourse of the Sepulchrall Urnes Lately Found in Norfolk. However, he mistakenly assumed they were Roman when they were, in fact, Saxon. Here is the extract from the book:

'In a Field in old Walsingham, not many moneths past, were digged up between fourty and fifty Urnes, deposited in a dry and sandy soile, not a yard deep, not farre from one another: Not all strictly of one figure, but most answering these described: Some containing two pounds of bones, distinguisable in skulls, ribs, jaws, thigh-bones, and teeth, with fresh impressions of their combustion. Besides the extraneous substances, like peeces of small boxes, or combes handsomely wrought, handles of small brasse instruments, brazen nippers, and in one some kinde of Opale.'

The book was a meditation upon mortality and has produced a number of famous quotes including:

'The long habit of living indisposeth us for dying.'

'Man is a noble animal, splendid in ashes, and pompous in the grave.'

'Generations pass while some trees stand, and old families last not three oaks.'

'To be nameless in worthy deeds exceeds an infamous history.'

'But to subsist in bones, and be but pyramidally extant, is a fallacy in duration.'

In the first chapter of The Rings of Saturn W.G. Sebald meditates, in turn, upon Thomas Browne and Hydriotaphia:

'The inquiry of oblivion blindly scatters her poppyseed and when wretchedness falls upon us one summer's day like snow, all we wish for is to be forgotten. These are the circles Browne's thoughts describe, most unremittingly perhaps in Hydriotaphia or Urn Burial of 1658, a discourse on sepulchral urns found in a field near Walsingham in Norfolk. Drawing upon the most varied of historical and natural historical sources, he expatiates upon the rites we enact when one from our midst sets out on his last journey.'

This is a photograph from approximately the 7.5 mile mark of the "Mullingar 10" - a 10 mile road race and fun run which was held in Dalystown, Mullingar, Co. Westmeath, Ireland on Sunday July 24th 2022 at 11:00. Dalystown is a rural parish situated about 6 miles south of Mullingar. The race was organised by the Mullingar Harriers Athletics Club who promote the event. Timing and event management was again provided by Irish company MyRunResults. All of the results from today's race and associated media are available on their website.

The race follows a simple 'figure of 8' route. The race starts from Dalystown National School and heads north briefly to Dalystown cross-roads where there is a left turn which brings runners along the L1122 road. The only real cross-over of the route is at the 2.5 and 7.5 mile mark. The race completes a loop between 2.5 and the 7.5 mile mark which brings runners into the locality of Ballinagore. The final 2.5 miles of the race brings runners back through Cloneheigue and the final 1.5 miles of the race is along straight road heading north back to Dalystown and the finish outside of Wallace's Pub. The race start/finish/HQ are accessible from the Mullingar-Tullamore road (the N52).

The course was a mixture of long straight level sections of road with some short rolling hills which makes for a challenging but overall fair course. The race took place is rather warm temperatures for distance running with little or no breeze/wind. A temperature of around 19C was recorded at the start of the race. However some beautiful mature hedgerows along the mostly rural roads provided shade and shelter from the sun for runners. Three water stations were provided on the route to help keep participants hydrated.

This was the sixth year of the event (with a COVID-19 pandemic enforced break) with clubs from all over the North Leinster region and beyond were represented today. Refreshments were provided outside Wallace's Pub at the Finish line. Well done to Mullingar Harriers and all the many volunteers who helped make today's race a wonderful success. There is a very significant amount of volunteer organisation and work required to make a distance race like this a success.

I was in homework avoidance mode, so I satisfied my rebellious nature and dug out the acrylic paints. Since I don't have enough time to visit the beach, I had to use a photo reference. Still, it was good therapy and practice. This measures 3.5 x 2.5 inches. I used a small filbert brush for the whole painting. I have micro brushes, but if you use just the tip of the filbert, you can get some amazing details. This took approximately 1/2 hour. I used a piece of cut-up mat board as a support.

George Brough made approximately 85 cars named Brough Superior. Built between 1935 and 1939, they were powered by Hudson engines and had Hudson chassis. Three models were made, but only two reached production. Early cars did not carry Brough Superior badges as Brough thought the cars sufficiently distinctive in themselves.

The first car was the 4 litre made from 1935 to 1936 using a 114 bhp , 4,168 cc side valve, straight-eight engine. Performance was remarkable for the time with a top speed of 90 mph and a 0-60 mph time of 10 seconds. The drop head coachwork was by Atcherley of Birmingham.

Featured speakers included Dr. Eugenia Cheng, Scientist in Residence at Chicago’s School of the Art Institute and author of “How to Bake Pi,” stuck bomb celebrity Andre Jefferson and Fermilab’s “Mr. Freeze” Jerry Zimmerman.

Approximately 150m away from this group of three juvenile sperm whales, I floated in mid ocean in the beautiful blue waters of the Azores. I was right in their path. When they approached me, one of them turned upside down to take a better look at me, which seemed to be typical behaviour of curious sperm whales. When they regrouped, I could capture all three of them in this one shot. A truly unforgettable moment.

- About the species: Sperm whales are the world's largest predators and have the largest brain in the entire animal kingdom. The females and youngsters are most often found in groups varying in size (groups up to 50 individuals have been recorded). They have strong social bonds and communicate using sonar, the clicks can be heard underwater over several miles. In the 18th, 19th and 20th century sperm whales were hunted by man to near extinction, the waters of the Azores being among the notorious hunting grounds. Fortunately in the Azores all the whaling facilities are now being used to observe and protect these whales. The conservation outlook is brighter than for many other whales. They are protected practically worldwide, and commercial whaling has ceased. However, the recovery from the whaling years is a slow process. We must make an effort to keep on protecting these beautiful animals in the years to come.

PERSONAL FUN FACT: For the first few years I was collecting dolls again, I never would have imagined adopting a Disney On Ice Ariel. I used to think they were incredibly bizarre and somewhat cheap looking. Times have changed though, and definitely for the better. I truly appreciate this Ariel doll's unique features. Her head mold is very exaggerated, but it still resembles Ariel. She also has striking face paint--she reminds me so much of an inflated 1997 Princess Mermaid Ariel doll. I also am surprised by the quality of her articulated knees--they hold pose very well and feel sturdy. She can't sit up well at all though since her hip joints are very worn out. Her hair is super soft, even though it feels like some sort of nylon--I didn't even need to flat iron it because a boil wash did the job perfectly. I am very grateful and excited that this gorgeous, unique Ariel doll is part of my collection. She was part of the 2015 "Jewel Secrets Barbie Lot" that I bought at the local flea market. My sister and I found a zipper case of dolls one Sunday morning, that hosted a strange variety of plastic people. There were some that were just five years old, and others from the 80s. A few dolls were very damaged, like someone tried body swapping them. Others looked hardly played with. I sadly didn't find this gal's factory ensemble in the case. But she looks so pretty in other outfits. She's one of my favorite dolls to display, and definitely one of the gals that catches your attention first!

Approximately two weeks ago, Sergeant Rob Long and John Davidson of the Hanceville Police Department conducted what initially seemed to be a routine traffic stop within the city limits of Hanceville. During the traffic stop interaction, Long established the likelihood that an illegal drug component was part of the incident.

Hanceville Police Department Narcotics Investigators were summoned to the scene.

Based upon evidence acquired during this traffic stop and subsequent questioning, Narcotics Investigator and Assistant Chief of Police Adam Hadder pursued a lengthy, ongoing investigation that took him across the county line into Blount County.

A single suspect with prior felony convictions involving narcotics possession and trafficking was the target of the investigation. Hadder pursued the likelihood that the individual may have once again been involve in the unlawful distribution of a controlled substance.

That multi-day investigation allowed Hadder to develop a crime profile that indicated that significant amounts of narcotics and other illegal drugs - directly tied to this traffic stop - were potentially being trafficked into Hanceville, Cullman County, and surrounding communities from a residential location in the Blountsville area.

On Monday evening (December 19th) around 9:00 pm, Hadder along with the aforementioned Long, Lieutenant Brannon Hammick and Chief of Police Bob Long arranged for the purchase of one ounce of ICE methamphetamine in Blount County from a white male believed linked to the suspected trafficking mentioned above.

During the pre-arranged drug buy, the suspect became agitated just prior to the transaction. He departed the transaction location in a motor vehicle. Hadder surreptitiously followed the suspect in an unmarked vehicle.

The situation soon escalated with Hadder and other members of HPD pursuing the individual into downtown Blountsville with as full show of blue lights. Ultimately, the suspect vehicle was boxed in after a short chase by HPD cruisers and the unmarked car.

The suspect was taken into custody at the location with one ounce of ICE methamphetamine in his possession.

In the meantime, from research information provided by the Hanceville Police Department, Sgt. Kirkland of the Blount County Sheriff's Office conducted a multiple hours surveillance of the suspect's presumed home.

Upon the detainment of the suspect, a search warrant was generated by the Blount County Sheriff's Office to enter the subject's dwelling. Hanceville and Blount County Investigators discovered a residential interior heavy with the smell of marijuana. The residence was sparsely decorated and believed to be a 'stash house'.

The following items were discovered inside the home:

• Approximately 110 pounds of high-grade marijuana buds

(street valued at $3,500 per pound)

• Approximately 2 pounds of ICE Methamphetamine

• Approximately 3 ounces of Cocaine

• Numerous pills of suspected of being controlled substances (Ecstacy)

• Multiple firearms

• A Ballistic Vest

• Various drug paraphernalia and apparatus

• Cash currency amounts believed to be between $90,000 and $110,000

As a result of the above, Hanceville Police arrested:

BRADLEY NEAL STEELE (33) of Blountsville

The above items were seized and Steel was taken to the Blount County Jail.

Steele will be charged with:

• Trafficking of Controlled Substance (3 counts)

~ Marijuana

~ Methamphetamine

~ Cocaine

Additional charges made be pending in relation to this arrest such as Attempting to Commit A Controlled Substance Crime, Attempting to Elude and Unlawful Possession of a Controlled Substance.

The total estimated street value of all street drugs seized is well over $350,000.

Bond will be set at $3,000,000.00.

Hanceville Chief of Police Bog Long had these thoughts following a press conference explain the arrest and charges:

"The important thing about this entire incident is that a very large amount of illegal drugs won't be available on the streets. I would like to acknowledge that the officers of Hanceville Police Department did a fantastic job. I also want to express my sincere gratitude to Blount County Sheriff Lloyd Arrington and the Blount County Sheriff's Office for all their hard work and dedication on this case."

Further information on this case is expected in the near future from the Blount County Sheriff's Office and Blount County District Attorney Pamela Casey (who is currently reviewing the circumstances of the case).

"Bryn Celli Ddu neolithic burial chamber overlying a henge monument.

Late 3rd millenium BC. Llanddaniel Fab , Anglesey, North Wales.

Bryn Celli DduBryn Celli Ddu is one of many ancient sites on the beautiful Isle of Anglesey and is one of Wales' most famous ancient monuments. It is also one of the few burial chambers that you can enter. Situated in a field near the village of Llanddaniel Fab close to the Menai Strait on the Isle of Anglesey. The entrance to the burial chamber is through a 20 foot long passageway. It is known that the site was broken into in 1699 by men with lanterns who were terrified by the site of the rounded pillar standing like a ghost in the main chamber. The site became more derelict over the years until in 1927-31 it was excavated and restored.

Evidence suggests the site is the product of two different religious systems. The first phase is a henge, an open air sanctuary for religious ceremonies and included the ditch and bank and the ring of stones.

Phase two is the burial chamber, a classic passage grave with a high chamber roof and lower passage roof.

No bones or other artefacts were found during the excavations but there is a rough spiral inscription on the first stone on the left as you enter the chamber, and a stone with zig zag inscriptions standing alone on the outside of the chamber."
