A large male 12 spotted skimmer I'd say, one of the largest I've ever seen.

Seen in a neighborhood natural garden plot, tended by several, disparaged by one homeowner who didn't like all the 'mess'. To appease her the gardeners pulled out the giant sunflowers this person didn't like and was able to leave the rest for dragonflies, pollinators, and other little creatures.

When I saw this dragonfly, I noticed four volunteer sunflowers growing nice and tall...in retaliation, I think:-)

I'll show you photos when they mature unless of course they've been yanked out!

Thank you for your visit, Flickr friends....I hope all is going very well in your part of the world.......Pat...xo

I've been extremely busy this summer with family and some traveling but have been doing some photo shooting too:-)

I have never known hunger like these insects that feast on me

A thousand teeth and yours among them, I know

Our hunger's appeased

Our heart beats becoming slow

“The Quiet World

In an effort to get people to look

into each other’s eyes more,

and also to appease the mutes,

the government has decided

to allot each person exactly one hundred

and sixty-seven words, per day.

When the phone rings, I put it to my ear

without saying hello. In the restaurant

I point at chicken noodle soup.

I am adjusting well to the new way.

Late at night, I call my long distance lover,

proudly say I only used fifty-nine today.

I saved the rest for you.

When she doesn’t respond,

I know she’s used up all her words,

so I slowly whisper I love you

thirty-two and a third times.

After that, we just sit on the line

and listen to each other breathe.”

So, we just had Groundhog Day

and Punxsutawney Phil saw his shadow. Meaning 6 more weeks of Winter. I thought, maybe if I post a pretty yellow flower, I will appease the weather God's and bring Spring on faster..;) Hey, it could work ..;)

Methoni was known from the time of Homer already, who mentions it as one of the seven towns that were promised to Achilles by Agamemnon, to appease his anger and persuade him to go back to the battle. Pausanias and Stravon call it Mothoni and identify it as the Homeric town.

Part 5 of the new series in which I try to portray different mental disorders, or the emotions of the person affected behind them.

Today Borderline or Borderline personality disorder (BSD).

Hark, I prithee, I must needs declare that 'twas a mite challenging for Midjourney to fully appease me, yet no trouble at all. In sooth, I hath required a few endeavors to procure precisely what I sought. But, 'tis completely acceptable, for there be no haste

Prompt 1: IMAGE: Emotions Unraveled | GENRE: Conceptual | MOOD: Emotional Turmoil | COLOR: A mix of contrasting hues | BACKGROUND: Abstract and fragmented patterns | SCENE: A person with Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD) experiencing intense emotions | DETAILS: Expressive facial expressions and body language reflecting various emotional states | RENDER: Surreal and evocative | LIGHTING: Dynamic and shifting | COMPOSITION: Chaotic and fragmented | SHOT: Close-up shot focusing on emotions | CAMERA: Experimental camera | LENS: Focal length 35mm | TAGS: Borderline Personality Disorder, BPD, emotions, mental health, conceptual art --ar 3:2 --q 2 --weird 200 --s 1000 --style raw

Frame and fine adjustment in LR and PS

A few weeks back I put a black&white image of a flower reflected on a mirror into a camera club competition. I wanted to give it a grungy look and so I purposely darkened it down to shades of shadow and light and added a lot of grain into the photo using Nik Silver Efex (great bit of software if you don't know it). My thought was that the judge would look at it and think something like, "wow, this is artistic and the grain works really well". You can guess the rest. He took one look at it and announced that it could have been a decent image except that it was very grainy. So much for the artistry of my post processing skills. 😂 So, as much to appease myself as anyone else I'm going to give you something similar here with this beach scene. And I warn you, if anyone says it's ok but its a little grainy, I'm coming after you!

“You strive to please others, to fit in, and feel accepted. In spite of that, you still don’t feel accepted, and not because others don’t accept you, but because you haven’t accepted yourself as you are.” ― Dragos Bratasanu, The Pursuit of Dreams

Tune: Linkin Park - Somewhere I Belong.

We often seek approval of someone else, a group of people, society etc because we want to be accepted in that all exclusive circle, feel like belonging somewhere. We try to mold ourselves in order to fit the necessary description, the demands of the masses, losing ourselves and our originality in the process while trying to appease. But it's often forgetten that - True acceptance doesn’t require you to fit in or change who you are. It doesn’t have to be sought; it’s given to you.

There's only one place to get snacks and illegal treats at this hour; the Snake Pit. Why does she always pull the burnt match when it's time to go on a food run?

Flit will have to suit up and race through the most dangerous areas of the city to appease her squads munchies...

Since Santa has so many gifts to give out for all the world's children on Christmas Eve, he dropped off presents for the birds and animals here at Lake Meyer Park a day early. This little squirrel kept pestering me to let it open just one present before the big day and looks very pleased with its appeasing pick.

I'm sometimes asked, "Hey! Why don't you ever do any street photography?" There are a number of reasons for this, beginning with the fact that there are simply not many streets by me and those few really provide little interest. A little gravel, some dirt, twigs and leaves. So imagine my surprise when coming upon this artistic rendering spray painted from the ground at the side of the road and continuing on to the pavement, pointing to some unknown but certainly important destination...um...over there.

Finally (said I) a vehicle to appease those who appreciate two genres which I've never really cared for in the same shot! Street photography and graffiti. My excitement was almost overwhelming. And then, while framing up the shot, to my complete shock and awe (not the US military variety used in Iraq), I discover it provides a selfie opportunity as well. I mean....OMG!!! Maybe I should join Instagram...

I reckon this is why we all carry a camera, no? Have a fun Friday and a happy weekend.

[With apologies to Led Zeppelin for use of their album title...it just seemed to be so appropriate.]

(Oh...and size really doesn't matter...)

I can't begin to tell you how excited I was when I stumbled upon this shot..

I had already bagged a good sunset over frozen lake photo. and appeased my family by getting a good bird shot. (my one and only, that;'s it!!) and I continued wandering forests and fields as the light faded. Past that golden hour I walked out onto this field, and bang - bing - yipes !!

The rhesus macaque (Macaca mulatta), colloquially rhesus monkey, is a species of Old World monkey.

It is native to South, Central, and Southeast Asia and has the widest geographic range of all non-human primates, occupying a great diversity of altitudes and a great variety of habitats, from grasslands to arid and forested areas. It is listed as Least Concern in the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species in view of its wide distribution, presumed large population, and its tolerance of a broad range of habitats.

The rhesus macaque is diurnal, arboreal, and terrestrial. It is mostly herbivorous, mainly eating fruit, but will also consume seeds, roots, buds, bark, and cereals. Studies show almost 100 different plant species in its diet. Rhesus macaques are generalist omnivores, and have a highly varied and flexible diet.

Like other macaques, the rhesus macaque is gregarious, with troops comprising 20–200 individuals. The social groups are matrilineal, whereby a female's rank is decided by the rank of her mother.

Facial expressions are used to appease or redirect aggression, assert dominance, and threaten other individuals, and vocalisations may be made to elicit grooming, while moving, or in threatening situations. It spends most of its day feeding and resting; the remainder is occupied with traveling, grooming, and playing. - Wikipedia

In The Force of Nature, Italian artist Lorenzo Quinn, depicts a woman seeking to harness the power of the Earth. The artist gained his inspiration from the ravaged coast in Thailand after a tsunami and the aftermath of a hurricane in the United States of America. Dedicated to Mother Nature, Lorenzo Quinn’s sculpture enters into the immemorial tradition of offerings to the gods in the hope of appeasing them. The woman in the sculpture seems to catch the force and raw energy of nature. This piece showcases the strong links and bonds between human beings and nature and serves as a reminder of how one should do all that is possible to bond with Mother Nature, something that is increasingly difficult in modern society.

Come and enjoy the art of very talented artists :)

This is one of my artworks in the series PUPPETS created in collaboration with Eli Medier that gave them a soul with his magical words

FATAL

Fate flooded the world with pain

in the absences of the spirit

who was chasing rays of light

through inaccessible universes

Humans bent their heads

predicting arcane auspices

from bleeding hearts

of immaculate virgins

Orgies of screams and blood

needlessly to appease

horrible gods

From the first groan

a trail of madness and terror

persecutes humanity

Nothing understandable

to our reason

Who cares

of a writhing worm

under our feet?

Angsty teenagers aren't just a human phenomenon. As Tricolored Herons get older they often lunge and snap at their parents when they arrive at the nest with food. To appease the youngsters, parents greet them with bows.

I have been listening to Matt Payne’s photography podcast “F-stop, Collaborate and Listen” since the day it started and am so thankful to Matt for hosting it. If you haven’t heard, do yourself a favor and check out his podcast. Super chill conversation with some of the best landscape photographers on the planet, many of them including Matt are Flickr users also, so drop in for a listen and get to know a little bit more about some of the people you may follow or admire.

On one of his latest episodes Matt’s guest said one word that I hadn’t heard before in the Landscape community, almost as if it was some kinda sacred word. I pondered the implications of that single word, As I listened I felt a small tinge of guilt starting to creep up in my mind and before long my view of the photography world started to, let’s say, tilt…. Because I knew I would be laid up in bed recovering, I had purchased several top photographers video training tutorials and watched over 100 videos during my time in bed, Enrico Fossatti, Sean Bagshaw, Ryan Dyar, David Kingham, watching these videos had helped me feel better about the pixels I had been abusing in my photos, and the "artistic license" I have applied to several of them. That one word, has been lingering with me ever since. I have been using photoshop professionally for over two decades for top companies like NBC, Walt Disney, Universal Studios Amblin Entertainment as well as several top ad agencies in Los Angeles and Hollywood, for some reason that word “Authentic”, a word I had never really heard in the industry had struck a cord with me. I’m not sure if it’s guilt but it sure feels like cheating somehow. Therefore, I am re-posting this before-after photo to hopefully appease my guilty conscience. LOL. I have tried several times to recreate this same shot from the beginning and never even get close to it looking like the originally processed photo. Is this the facet that makes art, artistic? The simple fact that it would be very difficult to recreate or replicate. I have never had a concrete workflow, the photo usually determines the process used based on how well I exposed or lit the scene.

I am thinking about recording my processing sessions so that I can remember the process used on each photo. Who know’s, maybe they might be worth something later on down the road. If any of you would be interested in a processing video made by me, please leave a comment or send me an email so I can judge interest levels before I undertake a project like this.

I am pleased to report that I am fully recovered from my surgery last Friday. Monday was the first day in five years that I was absolutely pain-free, that’s before I starting taking photos!!! I am so excited to get back out in the field and make some photos without having to worry about what my kidney stones are going to force me to do, heat pads, hot compresses or simply but painfully ignore them. Thanks for all the well wishing emails and comments I have received, I am truly touched. Thanks again!!

If I was a better man

Would fellow men take me to their hearts

If I was a stronger man

Carrying the weight of a popular demand

Tell me would that alarm her

I'd never harm her at all

If I was a soldier

Captive arms I'd lay before her

If I was a sailor

Seven oceans I'd sail to her

If I was a wiser man

Would other men reach out and touch me

If I was a kinder man

Dishing up love for a hungry world

Tell me would that appease her

I want to please her again

If I was a painter

I'd paint a world that couldn't taint her

If I was a leader

On food of love from above I would feed her

If I Was a poet

All my love and burning words I would show it

If I was her lover

Her eyes in kisses I would cover

Come here my baby

Oh they can't touch you now

I'll keep you save and warm

I'll never leave you at all

Come here my baby

Oh they won't touch you

Dishing up love for a hungry world

Tell me would that appease you

I want to please you again

I Can't See The Forest For The Trees

Been running on empty in this rat race,

Like trying my damnest to understand the reason,

Is why we live in a vacuum of disgrace

Notice we live life like animals committing treason.

Donning masks and disguising our face

Tell me, just who are we trying to appease there son?

Oh and remove that faux camouflage ,

And open up your eyes and you can plainly see

Life is a forest, we are the trees-it's no mirage

Let's be aware the foliage is but you and me.

“The people are leaving the cities” she said quietly, “The great ball courts are empty and there is talk of worse to come. The priests and nobles have been unable to appease the gods.” Lady Ho Chuen gripped his hand tightly. “Smoke Jaguar, last night I had a dream! The great Kukulkan swallowed the sun and was fleeing from the heavens. A blood rain fell upon our cities and temples.” Momentary fear gripped Smoke Jaguar.....

That pretty little flowering tree alone in the field is a Hawthorn. Looks innocent enough, but you don't mess with whitethorns in Ireland...bad things can happen. These trees that grew of their own accord, unplanted by human hands, are those most regarded with fear and superstition. These are thought of as faery trees, associated with those unseen beings from the other world. They are believed to mark the places where the faeries, after dark, would assemble and play sweet ethereal music, ready to abduct any beautiful human who took their fancy. Faeries could potentially destroy the crops, livestock, health, fortune or luck of anyone they took a dislike to, or anyone who had somehow wronged them. Thus, anything associated with faery activity in Ireland was traditionally avoided by the people who used many rituals to appease them. Seen in Co. Galway, Ireland.

"Earth angel, lost angel

Tryna feel if you are dangerous

All my health, drowning in the crowd

They please you, appease you

But I’m here to really see you

I’ll save you, I wanna light you up"

Kitano tenman-gu was founded in 947. It is the largest shrine to appease Sugawara no Michizane, an aristocrat, poet and politician of the Heian period (794-1185). More than ten thousands existing shrines belong to Kitano tenman-gu, and Michizane is considered as a deity of knowledge.

Fujiwara clan, a dominant clan in politics during the Heian period, later renovated the shrine. In 987, the shrine received Imperial patronage, and Ichijo emperor played its central role. From 1871 to 1946, Kitano tenman-gu stood as the second rank government supported shrines.

Every day in every way I’m getting better and better. Cough, hack, splutter and wheeze, I’m feeling a lot better I just need the weather to convince me and I may venture out to take a few snaps next week. Luckily I had a busy November and December and I still have a few photographs to play with. I’m not a one to show multiply repeats of past classic’s as I never know what my past classic’s are unless somebody tell’s me. If I do show repeats it’s usually out of fondness of a trip rather than a compositional master piece whatever that is. This is the problem I have in entering competitions, first I have to try and convince myself I’ve got work good enough, usually achieved by looking through past LPOY commended photos and thinking I can do better than that, to the odd photo not to my liking. Then I struggle in choosing my entries, but theirs the rub, the fact I have difficulty picking my photos should tell me I have nothing good enough and I’m looking for the best from a mediocre bunch. I’ve enter compositions two or three times in the past, then I wonder why, what am I trying to achieve, a fast track to recognition from my peers to appease my fragile ego, but it’s all subjective at the end of the day, just money for old rope. See what I did there :-) May your weekend be interesting and fulfilling.

Boo did not like me taking or working on a photo of Ripley, so to appease her, I took an indoor shot of her looking like she wasn't being extremely jealous. Blessed to have them both in my life - I'd be miserable without them!

One of the things you will notice as you venture across South Asia is the abundance of offerings laid out on the streets and the doorways of local residences and businesses. There is a strong cultural belief that traditional spirits are still at play in the world and can cause bad things to happen to families, individuals and businesses. Offerings are made to appease these spirits and keep evil ones at bay.

On the right side of the building there is a statue of Ingibjorg H. Bjarnason - the first woman to become a member of the Icelandic Parliament in 1922.

Alþingishúsið, The Parliament House, is a classical 19th century structure which stands by Austurvöllur (a public square) in central Reykjavík, Iceland. It houses Alþingi, the Icelandic parliament. The building was designed by Danish architect Ferdinand Meldahl and built using hewn dolerite from 1880 to 1881.

The reliefs on the tympanums of the four outermost windows on the first floor represent the four Landvættir of Iceland: a dragon, a vulture, a giant and a bull, momentarily appeased by Ingólfur Arnarson when he first landed in Iceland.

Alþingishúsið has also housed the Icelandic National Library and Antiquaries Collection, and later the Icelandic National Gallery. The University of Iceland used the first floor of the house from 1911 to 1940, and the President of Iceland had his offices in the building until 1973.

Today, only the debating chamber, a few small meeting rooms and the offices of some of the senior parliamentary staff are actually located in Alþingishúsið. Committee meeting rooms, parliamentarians’ offices and most of Alþingi's secretariat are located in other buildings in the area around Austurvöllur. (Wikipedia)

-------------------

It is said that no other country in the world has as many castles per square meter as Wales (approximately 300 castles). From the Roman forts to the Norman squares, passing through the Saxon bastions, the history of Wales has been written in stone.

The Castle of Caernarfon is located on the Menai Strait. It was the largest of the castles built in North Wales by Edward I of England, being the official royal residence and seat of government. Its octagonal towers from the 13th century still dominate the town.

Edward II was born here in 1284 and also here he was given the honorary title of Prince of Wales in 1301, as a gesture to appease the Welsh, a title that to this day is given to the eldest son of the reigning English monarch.

Tonight is the night of Halloween, All Hallows Eve, or Samhain as was celebrated in our Celtic countries in pre-Christian times. Traditionally the festival heralded the dark side of the year, the end of harvest and the beginning of winter, which was often associated with death. So when did we get plastic skeletons and carved pumpkins? I had never heard of "Trick or Treat" until I was in Canada one year for the occasion in my teens. I've always assumed that, like many of our holidays, it was imported from the Americas to Britain at some point. But this is not really true, as Europeans and particularly the Irish who emmigrated to America in the latter part of the 19th century, took much of their culture with them which helped to popularise Halloween there. When I was growing up in the north of England, I remember Halloween as a time to make carved turnip lanterns and be given sweets from relatives at family get-togethers. We didn't have costumes or go door-to-door, though I believe this too was part of an older tradition. Nor did we need to spend a fortune on Halloween costumes for our pets! The idea of being given food was traditionally partly to stave off the winter hunger, as well as to appease the spirits who were around on Hallows Eve, when the veil between the world was said to be thin.

Here in West Cornwall, the landscape feels like that most of the time. When I'm off the beaten track, there is a timeless quality, when I feel like I can connect to the past and the future and anything could happen. So why is it that during October, whenever I see a roadside stall selling pumpkins, I feel deep down that I should buy one? They are not even part of my tradition. Happy Samhain.

Tricolored Heron - Juvenile

From Cornel:

Coastal estuaries are a great place to look for Tricolored Herons year-round. They tend to feed alone or at the edge of groups of other waders, so be sure to look at the lone dark bird in the corner. They also forage more commonly in open water and pools than Snowy Egrets and Little Blue Herons. Their white belly readily separates them from Little Blue Herons and Reddish Egrets, and their active foraging style separates them from the slow and methodical Great Blue Heron.

Angsty teenagers aren't just a human phenomenon. As Tricolored Herons get older they often lunge and snap at their parents when they arrive at the nest with food. To appease the youngsters, parents greet them with bows.

Their plumage changes in color rather dramatically from the juvenile stage, when they are mostly brown with blue accents, to their adult form: slate gray with mauve tones. They always have a white belly, but during the breeding season (May – July), they become even more vibrant. Tricolored Heron bills and facial skin take on a bright, cobalt blue hue and their dull, yellow legs transform into pink. Why? These coloration infusions are all about attracting a mate.
