Apparently there was just one too many viewers for this Green Heron and it was time to disappear.

At this rate it's going to take quite a while to fill up this Anhinga.

This rather fine display of plumes is why many herons and egrets were hunted to near extinction in the late 1800's/early 1900's to serve the fashion industry. In 1900 these plumes were worth more per ounce than gold and plume hunters killed 5 million birds a year in Florida decimating it's shore bird population.

Even after the law was changed to protect these birds, apparently hunters still murdered two Audubon wardens who were protecting birds in the Everglades.

Taken near Fort Myers, Florida.

As always, thank you so much for stopping by and for leaving any comments or faves, they are very much appreciated.

Apparently there’s a pot of gold in Mike’s living room…

Apparently I wasn’t quick enough doling out treats, at least where Frisbee is concerned. The cat with the $270 hair-cut! In my kitchen.

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Red_Run_Covered_Bridge This bridge was not among the bridges I was planning on visiting. I had asked Google to find "covered bridges near me" and I went to the area with the highest concentration of bridges. This one was not on the list, but I saw it as I drove by, and stopped for a few quick photos. The bridge no longer spans a river or creek, and apparently is on private property (adjacent to a campground). The bridge is now being used for storage, as lots of old junk was insde. HFF!

Apparently there have been sightings of up to 5 Owls at Copt Hall, ( probably only one, you know how these things escalate! ) Unfortunately it never came close enough for a portrait, so we have a habitat shot!! It was a lovely still afternoon so great to be there!

(Spinus tristis)

Tomball, Texas

The American goldfinch (Spinus tristis) is a small North American bird in the finch family. It is migratory, ranging from mid-Alberta to North Carolina during the breeding season, and from just south of the Canada–United States border to Mexico during the winter.

The only finch in its subfamily to undergo a complete molt, the American goldfinch displays sexual dichromatism: the male is a vibrant yellow in the summer and an olive color during the winter, while the female is a dull yellow-brown shade which brightens only slightly during the summer. The male displays brightly colored plumage during the breeding season to attract a mate.

Apparently, more than 60 varieties of birds eat mulberries and this mulberry tree is providing an endless supply for the species in the area. The local Cedar Waxwings seemed to have found it early on and in their sleek attire have taken the tree by storm.

Hope you don't get tired of berry shots too soon!

I appreciate all visits, comments and inspiration you bring to my stream!

Apparently DHL was originally set up just to deliver documents from San Francisco to Hawaii. Looks like they will now deliver anywhere! (Though this truck is actually on the M4 motorway in the middle of the English countryside.)

apparently it's dragonfly week

Apparently everyone is hanging their baubles in branches so I thought I'd give it a go too

Apparently, Larks like the summer and warm temps here in Jordan; and I'm pleased and happy they do. They are certainly great subjects... hopping up onto stones and boulders in the sun, they seem unconcerned with the kestrals and buzzards that are always patrolling above them, who I must say also seem more interested in doves and feral pigeons.

Another warm morning, fantastic up and down walking among the pines and olive trees in and around the edge of the forest reserve. The 400 mm is almost one Kg (2+ lbs) heavier than the 300 mm... still working on handheld technique with it... plus walking is very deliberate on up and downhill scree and loose soil... can't drop or land on top of this! :-)

Shout out to the Jordan Royal Society for the Conservation of Nature (RSCN) for their great work in the protected areas of Jordan and also Mr. Mohammad Hammad and Mr. Ali Hasan at SixT for always finding me the compact SUV I need to get around on the weekends in back-country Jordan... :-)

Apparently, they occur only in New England in late August, and can only be seen by plastic cameras. The dream continues. Hate that this must end.

Apparently they love hibiscus flowers!

Look Ethan I took a flower picture 😄 Also how do you link a name?

It's all about being in the right place at the right time. This tiny katydid was dipping its head back and forth onto the bright yellow spadix.

It wasn't until I started doing a bit of research before posting this image that I learned the spadix has quite an obnoxious smell.

I've shared the link below, but these are the words that piqued my interest in learning more about Calla Lillies.

"This ability is yet another way the plants attract pollinators. A warm spadix does two things: it provides pollinators with a bit of energy in chilly weather and it acts as a fragrance diffuser, wafting that delicious putrid odor just a bit further as an added enticement."

I discovered these remnants on the last steps to the dock, noting two or three more on the lake bottom, and then another two on the bank. Something had discovered and devoured an entire clutch of duck eggs. I have a nesting box by the shore near the dock and have seen ducks (mainly hooded mergansers) regularly inspect it, but the only birds I ever knew to use it were a pair of house swallows and that only once. Unbeknownst to me, it was apparently in use this year as these remains surrounded the site. A mystery as to what feasted on these eggs as there are numerous suspects.

Apparently people don't like the truth, but I do like it; I like it because it upsets a lot of people.

Apparently we were driving right into it and did not see a single soul on the road for ages and then we had the first encounter ... this is the kind of "road warrior" you meet in the Icelandic "Outback" and they look at you and seem to ask: with that flimsy car of yours ... really?! ... ;) :p

Apparently called a pink moon.

Apparently I look adorable wrapped up in a towel :) A very wet day and a good squeeze in the towel is needed, then fun and games with Olive to dry off.

I think Margo could audition for Mary in a nativity scene in a few months time lol.

Apparently the hills on either side of this pass from a distance resemble the shape of a pair of....

Apparently this means something along the lines of "Crescent Moon Lake". Unfortunately I didn't find any information about how the name developed. The area is a veritable eldorado for anyone with a camera as this high plateau includes up to 23 mountain lakes (depending on the season). Each one has a different colour, almost every one reflects the nearby mountain peaks. Needless to say, there's more to come 😅.

apparently they do this as the don't have the oil in their feathers that other birds have

FRONT PAGE Explore #6. Thank You

Shot at West Coast Park, Singapore. Loved the blue'ish tinge on the wet sands - post sunset.

PSB Technique - blending of several tone mapped sequences

Apparently this pose is a good way to try to get cool! Happy Caturday.

Hot, but trying to get colder! - for Flickr Lounge

Apparently by taking the photograph of the fly yesterday and calling it beautiful I sent the wrong message into the universe. A different fly decided to spend the morning buzzing around my front room maybe hoping for a photo op but annoying me to no end. As I was hunting him down I noticed the light spilling in from the window onto the piano. Inspired moment, thanks to the fly?

Of course that's Paddy Pumpkin ... but apparently the scene behind looking up Wastwater is ... people obviously don't get out and about much as there are quite alot better! ... mind, that's fine by me

apparently we share the same feelings about 2021....

Apparently, Owners don't like it when we play with the neatly piled toilet roll stack... or growl at shoppers around C88.

I apparently DO wear clothes sometimes.

Apparently this snowy egret got a whiff of something nasty and had to do a quick, but discrete check to see if it was his wing pits that stunk

Apparently, Cranes are among the oldest living birds on the planet. The earliest unequivocal Sandhill Crane fossil, estimated to be about 2.5 million years old, was found in Florida.

Taken at Myakka River State Park, Florida.

Apparently there was too much trash on this property for the Junk Yard Dog. He ran off after seeing the squalor he would be forced to live in. This house is abandoned even though it’s condition doesn’t look too bad from the outside. There is the obligatory refrigerator on the porch. It still needs a sofa on the porch before it can be declared a Class A Historic Junk Yard Landmark. You will note that there are several trailers, a tractor, two boats and a camper. More than enough to label it as a Class B Landmark.

This is the last property off this rural road. This dirt driveway is private property, so I’d like to know where the power lines are going. HTT

Apparently, this is not the "Mighty Hunter" of Peace Valley. This male is banded. He is flying towards his mate in this shot. The pair is hanging around the Kestrel box in the field near Sailors Point. They are both pretty skittish

Apparently I lied when I said no more drop shots. I totally missed this one where a 2nd crown from a 2nd drop landng is more visible.

Apparently they are hatched in Arizona.

Seen in the Desert Botanical Garden in Phoenix.

Apparently this year has a lot of potential to get as nasty as the last one. Today Heidi was diagnosed with two rather big gall stones, which is always a bad thing but especially so if you're a cat. It appears that although we've won the battle against her tumor now we're losing the war anyway.

Also last night someone I know died of covid... it's starting to hit closer to home and I'm already fed up with 2021 😕

Apparently this is the most haunted room at St. Ignatius, especially during night hours. However, I got the worst vibes from the "Nuns Quarters" in a room just above the fourth floor...

My friend Alex who I was traveling with was really excited about the prospect of seeing aurora borealis during this trip and I have never been in the vicinity of Jökulsárlón at night either so after settling in at the farm hostel we were going to sleep at the first night, we set out to take some night photos. Raggi came with us but Heiða stayed behind. Was real eerie being out there just the three of us as I am so used to coming there and the place is swarming with people.

The icebergs were crashing against each other and making these crackling and splashing sounds and it was pretty peaceful to stand out there in the moonlight for an hour or so. Didn´t see any borealis and at first the constant movement of the icebergs irritated me (guess the tide was coming in). I quickly realized that it could look cool though so I just found a piece of ice stuck on the shore to help the composition and the result is this photograph.

Apparently the phrase was first used in a 1936 song called “Truckin’ My Blues Away” by Blind Boy Fuller.

Keep on truckin' mama, truckin' my blues away

Keep on truckin' mama, girl you truck my blues away...

Anyway here's the song
