At an elevation of 4,629 feet, Max Patch boasts a 360-degree view of the Appalachian Mountains including the Blue Ridge and the Smokies.
The famous Appalachian National Scenic Trail (or A.T.) on top of Max Patch Mountain near Hot Springs. It was cleared and used as pasture in the 1800s. Today, it's a 350-acre tract of open land on a high knob with 360-degree views. On a clear day, you can see from Mt. Mitchell on the east to the Great Smoky Mountains on the south. Max Patch is part of the Pisgah National Forest.

A portion of the Appalachian National Scenic Trail in Shenandoah National Park. This 2180 mile trail stretches from Georgia to Maine. It was completed in 1937. I was in the ICU for a month. I made it through. The docs told my family I probably wouldn't recover! I am alive due to the quick thinking of the ER doctor!

Western North Carolina had a 4.5 earthquake yesterday! Roads closed. Dams were damaged. Dogs freaked out. Items fell off shelves. Felt for many hundreds of miles! No idea a 4.5 could do any damage!

I'm sure a lot of you have heard of the Appalachian Mountains in the United States. Well, the northern section of that range continues on into Canada. The Long Range Mountains in South Western Newfoundland and the Annieopsquotch Mountains shown here are part of that northern section found in Canada.
This farm is at the base of a mountain that the Appalachian Trail crosses at its summit.
