A year after the school opened, the Head-of-Music, Ken Condon, acquired this splendid pipe-organ by Bishop, and had it installed on the south side of the auditorium.
It was in daily use for assembly, and school concerts . . . and there were always a dozen teen-age would-be-organists under instruction !
When I arrived for the open-day, at lunch-time, I was spotted by the music-teacher . . .
who asked me if I would like to "Switch-on the organ, and see if it still works" ?
I was delighted to oblige, and not-surprizingly, it still works to perfection ~ a well-built chamber organ with tracker-action will last for many more years.
But I couldn't help feeling that it was SAD . . . that the only High-School in Norfolk with a pipe-organ in its concert-hall ~ did not know if it still worked !!!
Apparently it had not been switched on since my last visit, FIVE YEARS AGO !!!

This is a better diagonal view of the gallery . . . showing the 'black-out' curtains ~ which allow the fine auditorium to double as a cinema . . . even in broad daylight.
On the far side of the North quadrangle, beyond the gallery winows, is the Craft-Block ~ with well fitted art-room, pottery-kiln, woodwork & metalwork shops . . . and a fine Domestic-science suite . . . where once-upon-a-time, the cookery-class each morning pepared lunch for the staff !! . . . all strictly forbidden by the 'nanny-state' now !!
