From the 1983 A&P Annual Report comes this peek at the coming Futurestore.
The full text that accompanies this photo is as follows:
This coming fall the new prototype for the A&P "Futurestore" will be unveiled in Allendale, New Jersey. With its unique exterior treatment and interior decor and color scheme, the style is unlike any A&P store ever seen. Service departments are emphasized, and include meat and fish departments, bakery and delicatessen, gourmet cheese, bulk foods, nutrition center and floral departments. While totally modern in approach, the store design utilizes elements that express the longstanding association of A&P with food products.
This A&P FutureStore has been sitting abandoned since 1994, when the store closed. The windows were left uncovered for many years, and were boarded up only in the last few years as the interior has also been stripped and prepped for demolition. I was able to get this shot through a door window which was left uncovered. You can still see the stark white and black which were the trademarks of the Futurestore interior. There are better shots in my 2009 pictures, before the store windows were boarded-up:

AP Tour 2010.
Fun night, minus the stupid fangirl who just HAD to get a photo pass for the show, who literally stalked me all night. And every single time I would point my lens at someone during the show, she would do the exact same thing. I generally get pretty into it when I'm shooting live, getting into weird positions to get my shot (whatever works), and of course she has to do the same thing. Ugh. Who needs originality when you can do every single thing Sam Link does? Nope.
Honestly, I was never like this. I never followed someone around trying to copy their style. I strived to achieve my own style, and continue to do so. Originality and Freedom are the only reasons I shoot. Thanks.
The A&P Sav-A-Center / Futurestore in Wayne, NJ has been vacant since November, 2015.
The store was on the small side, at 36,000 sq ft., and had never been modified nor expanded since its opening.
