September Impressions

So many dew drops surround me

I search for the sun, but it can't be found.

the countryside still slumbers, perhaps not,

It's awake,

it watches me,

I don't know.....(...)

....(...) my thoughts fly lightly away

I'm almost afraid they'll get lost....(...)

Picture taken at night time in the Planty — i.e. the chain of 36 small gardens that surround the historic city of Kraków (Poland).

This green belt was established in place of the medieval walls between 1822–1830 as part of the urban development project following the "garden city" movement.

It is now a great place to have a walk at any time of the day (and night...).

** Another autumn scene from New England I have posted quite a lot but I could not bare to delete any of them it was after all a once in a lifetime experience . Taken on Chocorau lake in New Hampshire in 2017

We should respect and support equality and equity for all women and all girls around the world every single day of the year. Inequality is unacceptable. Any violence and abuse of all women and girls is deplorable. Equality. Parity. Fairness.

Being in the high country in any season is heaven. The views are breathtaking and one can see forever. The sun sets early during Alaskan winters. In the interior, the shortest day of winter is 3 hours and 45 minutes long. When the sun sets or rises, the colors are amazing.

Being up in elevation, the temperatures are generally warmer than in the valleys. Temperature ranges can vary 50 degrees or more. The only bad part about the high country is that when the wind blows, there is nowhere to get out of the wind.

This was photo was taken near Isabel Pass in the central part of Alaska.

Unlike any other elfin, the Eastern Pine Elfin with its bold pattern of brown and white stripes that resembles a pine cone, is the only butterfly species that uses pines as the larval host plant, preferring the hard pines such as the Loblolly Pine (Pinus taeda) or the Virginia Pine (Pinus virginiana).

As with other elfins, this butterfly is univoltine producing only one adult generation per year and flying only for a short time in early spring. Both the larvae and the adults are smartly colored to mimic the host plant to evade predators.

Right now, in the dead of winter, this species is a very small pupa trying to survive the harsh winter conditions. The adults will emerge sometime in spring.

Thanks for faves and likes. I love it very much.

But don’t use my pictures for any other reason because they are mine.

Recently built C44aci units QL004, QL010 and QL003 take the curves out of Broadford on Qube's 2WM7 Steel service from Port Kembla to North Dynon in Melbourne.

The train was running around 3 hours when it passed me, and when it got to Melbourne probably was running closer to 4 or 5 hours behind schedule. Maybe the latest Qube Steel yet?

When you visit West Wittering you must take a few shots of the beach huts as it is a rite of passage for any photographer! They are looking a bit tatty at the moment after the winter storms.

Welcome to beautiful San Diego County!

San Diego County boasts the biggest bird list of any county

or of any area of equal size in the United States

(The San Diego County Bird Atlas):

over 520 species across the county!

Over the years it seems I've not taken any photos on April 27th, which is no bad thing because it gives me an opportunity to showcase three Australian native flowers

Banksias belong to the Protea family of which there are more than 170 species. This plant variety is endemic to Australia with the exception of one which can also be found in New Guinea.

Banksias are sturdy plants with stout trunks and long leathery and toothed leaves. The flower spikes are cylindrical or globular and have hundreds of small flowers packed in them. The colour of the flower ranges from yellow to red. The individual flowers are threadlike and are rich in nectar that attracts birds like honeyeaters, while parrots and cockatoos will feed on the seeds.

As the flower dies, the spike develops into fruiting cones, there is one in this photo. The fruit cones protect the seeds from fire and foraging animals. The cones will not open and release their seeds until the cone is completely dry or burnt.

I remember that marvellous sunset on Koh Tao, an island north of Koh Samui and Koh Phangan. I had walked into the sea to capture the scenery photographically and was knee-deep in the water until I felt something like a sting or bite in my lower right leg. All I remember is that I hit it and immediately left the water. On the beach I then saw about 20 small skin lesions like punctures from a biopsy with a diameter of about 1 mm and the leg was bleeding quite profusely. Jellyfish alarm! Fortunately, we hadn't been far from our little hotel and I got vinegar for the wound there straight away. You actually use this to loosen a stuck jellyfish, but it didn't do any harm either. Unfortunately, I didn't have my emergency allergy kit for such cases (antihistamine, cortisone and an adrenaline pen) with me, but had it in my hotel room...;) That could have ended badly. I was really glad I hadn't gone swimming in the sea (I never do it after sunset). In Thailand, there are always deaths from large-scale contact with devil jellyfish. In a situation like that, you actually are shocked at first.

Yes, when you travel a lot, the strangest things happen to you. Once a snake flew towards us at the waterfall, that wasn't so funny either. But the number one story so far was when we were caught by a current in the sea. Horror stories, luckily we survived.

Thanks for your visit, danke für Euren Besuch!
