Asim, one of the soldiers of the protective guard of the Ankh, practices with his companion the attack with his Ghostspear. He is especially concerned today because they were entrusted with some commemorative tablets of the Ankh and are made to practice with them. He seems strange to her and makes her suspect that they actually want them to protect something more important, and the exercises with the boards are the excuse. For several weeks, officials have been uneasy. Some rumors speak of a dark power that is invading the Fairlands, but no one knows where it comes from or how it does it. Asim shakes his head to clear the dark thoughts that invade him because he knows that an oversight on the battlefield can cost him his life and it is better to start training. When they're done, he knows who to ask what's going on...
Too this a couple of nights ago, simply using a torch and a steady hand. When I looked at it I was reminded of the scared Ankh, the esoteric symbol of fertility and union between male and female divinities as well as the representation of mortal existence and the afterlife, a sort of a gateway so to speak.
Either way I like it and happy to be back after a short break away, I auditioned for a part in an animation last week and wish me luck my dear friends.

Waverley Cemetery, Waverley, Sydney, New South Wales, Australia
When we were in Sydney over Christmas we headed to the Waverley Cemetery one morning, to catch the sun rising over the sea. There was a bit of cloud and mist around but it certainly didn't hinder the lightshow.
This cemetery is enormous and is located right next to the Bondi to Coogee clifftop walkway, so it is not a bad spot to spend an hour or two in among the quieter Syndey locals.

Ngaruroro River with Milky Way, Hawke's Bay, New Zealand
I always get excited when I manage to capture a shot of the Milky Way, especially when I am in an area that I have not shot at night before, and it is located about 10km away from both Napier and Hastings, the 2 main urban areas in Hawke's Bay.
This shot of the Milky Way above the south and west horizons is comprised of 9 images shot in portrait orientation stitched to form this panorama, covering about 135°. The Southern Cross is visible just above the horizon on the left of the image, and the 2 Magellanic Clouds are visible in the upper left. The main glow on the horizon in mid frame is the light pollution from Hastings.

Maraetotara Falls, Hawke's Bay, New Zealand
I have often wondered if the Milky Way was visible through the trees at this popular waterfall, and last night I found out.
2 image blend:
1 for stars and silhouette of the trees: f4, 15sec, ISO6400, 14mm
1 for the waterfall and detail in the trees: f3.2, 360sec, ISO400, 14mm
These were blended in PS and the final touch up done in LR6

Sea Walls mural on Perfume Point beacon, Ahuriri, Napier, New Zealand
At the moment in Napier a collection of 29 artists are painting murals on walls and buildings around the city, to promote the Pangeaseed Foundation ( www.pangeaseed.foundation/sea-walls/new-zealand/ ), and to highlight marine issues in general.
This mural by Aaron Glasson depicts the local legend of Pania of the Reef ( en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pania ) and is painted on all 6 sides of this beacon tower.
I popped out at sunset to see this stunning piece of art just as Aaron was putting the finishing touches on it.

It was believed that the gods could use the ankh to bring people back to life after death, and it was also used as a symbol of protection and good luck and was often worn as a lucky amulet or charm.

The cross here is very special for me. That’s the only religious sign I wear on. The Ankh is the symbol of love between man and woman and a symbol of Eternity, of life beyond life (like the Infinity symbol In Mathematics). It’s also very similar of the symbol of Venus.
It could be the symbol of Eternal Love.

The Egyptian ankh, also known as the "key of life," is an ancient symbol representing life and immortality. It is characterized by a T-shape topped with a loop and was commonly depicted in the hands of gods and pharaohs, symbolizing their power to grant life and access to the afterlife. In Ancient Egyptian mythology the circle at the top represented the sun and the horizontal bar represented the horizon.

"The Key" was an art installation at Riverside Church which exhibited the work of 40 artists from Egypt, the MIddle East and the West. Using the Egyptian "Ankh" hieroglyphic character which is read as life. The art was organized by Caravan Arts.
Artist: Yasmine El Khateib - the anhk symbol is linked to the ancient Egyptian Goddess Isis and the artist wanted to blend "aspects of Isis and Frida Kahlo to indicate that every female who possesses their qualities, is the manifestation of a goddess"
Lake Tutira, Hawke's Bay, New Zealand
A few weeks ago Liz and I headed up to Lake Tutira just north of Napier to watch the sun set, and we wandered up the eastern side of the lake to one of my favourite spots.
The clouds looked kind of stormy, but it was a very pleasant evening and the colours in the sky seems to last a lot longer than normal.
