For Looking Close…on Friday, a view of my spice rack. Nothing fancy, I’ve had this spice rack for over 50 years. Of course, the spices themselves are much more current than the rack! Many spice containers have come and gone in those years! 😀🌶

And sometimes both at the same time, as is the case here. The Steam Dreams "Settle and Carlisle Steam Special" excursion train just makes it past Shotlock Tunnel before a prolonged period of heavy rain sets in. The train is headed by 46100 "Royal Scot", March 25th 2023.

This photograph was shot on the bay at the boundary between Fairlie and hunterston in North Ayrshire Scotland, the body of water here is the Firth of Clyde. I came very close to calling this one "Reviewing The Situation". Anyway, being a master of stating the obvious I decided that Black and Blue was more fitting for a whole variety of reasons. I love the light here, I love the mood created by the light and dark and I love how it can change so quickly that from one blink of the eye to another, it can be so very different. I hope you enjoy this one.

Thank you for taking the time to take a look at my photos . Your views, comments, faves are very appreciated.

If it looks a bit weird, it was storming buckets. The place is a bit grander than this I just wasn't up for getting drenched.

First bit of grumpy weather for quite awhile, coming in off the Atlantic in West Cornwall. I was up early for a change and caught it before it cleared and the sun came out.

I'm very grateful for all your visits and would like to thank you now for stopping by, and any comments you may leave. Much appreciated, John...

Hello Scout, Paddy and Cousin Paddington!

What do you think of my two new friends?

They are very nice! They listen to all my stories and don't say anything back.

I hope to see you all soon!

The design for the Japanese Garden was conceived in 1970, construction started in 1971 and it was completed in 1974. It represents a gentle, horticultural gesture of sister ship between two sister cities, Buffalo and Kanazawa, Japan. Located on 6 acres along Delaware Park’s Mirror Lake, the original design contained over 1,000 plantings, nearly 20 globe-type lights, three small islands connected to the mainland by bridges.

In life we all have our ups and downs. However when we are up it isn't completely in our control as is the case with these snails. On the teeter totter the snail on the bottom is in control of keeping the other one up. When he pushes off to make himself higher the other snail now has the power. It is a give and take situation as with so many things in life. When you are up enjoy the good times but when you are down remember you have the power to push yourself up.

PS - pretend the snails can actually push themselves up.

The time has finally come.

Bernus meets his brother Hakus.

Peter and Oleg wait in the hall

There is a knock on the door of Hakus's room:

HAKUS:

Come on in.

Hakus is busy reading the books and does not realize that Bernus is now in his room. After waiting a while and there is no response from Hakus, Bernus tries to get his attention.

BERNUS:

Are you Prof. Dr. Hakus?

HAKUS

Hmmmm ......

BERNUS

I am your brother

HAKUS:

No kidding ... I don't like that.

BERNUS:

Now look up, can't you see the resemblance?

Hakus is out of focus and is looking up.

HAKUS:

Good heavens ... what do we get now!

This meeting is so intense that Hakus reacts to it physically ........

Did I ever mention that I love trees? This is an old friend, whom I visit again and again.

Soon I will continue with my Iceland series. There are so many motifs that I can not do anything else ;-)

At this point I would like to thank you again for all the nice comments and your interest!

THANKS FOR YOUR VISIT AND FAVES

ON THE REACTIONS I WILL TRY TO RESPOND BACK

Often you will see holly bushes in the forest that remain low. This is because, especially the roe deer, eat the new tender leaves that come up.

Holly berries are poisonous to humans. Birds usually only eat the berries when there is nothing else to be found.

Because the holly is dioecious, some trees bear berries and others do not. Dioecious means that the tree is either male or female in sex. The trees that do not produce berries are the male trees.

Looking like its always been there, my greenhouse sits in all its lush glory!

This shot was taken the morning after the day we built it! Apart from all the surplus bricks to the front of the greenhouse which still need dumping, Trev and i are really pleased with efforts.

My plants are now in and loving the light, warmth and shelter they deserve :-))

Trevs now threatening to take it down as its not stopped raining since we built it! LOL !

A wonderful week dear friends and all the best to you ! Thank you for your kind support these days ! : )

I couldn't resist this look through one of the farms in Cades Cove, Great Smoky Mountains National Park. I loved all of the various lines and shadows, a bit of a peek-a-boo and a nice change from the landscape vistas of that spectacular park.

till the silence turn golden

and love is a moment eternally overflowing.

Large and Many, 230113 Original digital abstract with Procreate, MidJourney, Topaz photo, Photoshop, and TouchRetouch. Created on an iPad Pro with Apple Pencil.

This piece began with an original digital painting in Procreate. I passed that to the MidJourney AI and let it do variations with a few different prompts. When a variation caught my eye I retouched it with TouchRetouch, scaled it with topaz photo AI, did a little post processing in Photoshop, and a lot of retouching in Procreate

That'll show 'em!

Like the northern lights I completely missed out on the rare appearance of snow down here this week. North Dorset, Wiltshire and even Weston got a dumping but nothing whatsoever on the South Coast.

Still what can beat seeing snow covered mountains? Taken handheld with my 200mm lens which has been repaired (after I slipped on ice and dropped it). I was £500 lighter but I'm getting it back through my home insurance and it's like a new lens. Result!

I bet North Wales is even more beautiful this week but its maybe unlikely I'd be able to get around.

love this movie/song

Another perch shot, but this one is strongly backlit, and I had some fun with it in the processing. The blue in this is heavily exaggerated. A dull blue grey would have been accurate. The background is a white fence in the shade a couple of lots away, so it was very cool in comparison, but I wanted to know how it would look if I gave it some extra saturation and tried darkening it so that the chickadee and perch stood out. At a first mild attempt I thought it almost looked like it was taken by moonlight, so I went heavier in adjusting the blue, along with a few other adjustments to come to what you see here.

I know it does not look real at all considering it was taken during the day, but this one was processed for feel as opposed to reality. I know it is early, but I thought it had a Christmasy feeling to it. This is close to the full frame so I could easily have cropped much closer to the chickadee, but I liked the look of the perch with the snow flakes on it maybe a bit more than the chickadee even. I liked how the perch was lit from beneath from light that was bouncing off of the snow on the ground.

Although the sun was shining brightly there were still some flakes coming down and did not last long so I only had a few shots to choose from.

It looks like this car was towed to Yarra Road in the Wando National Park and burnt. It was reported March 2022 so presumably a recent arrival.

Any ideas as to what it might be?
