Frogner Park is located in the central West End borough of the same name. All originally belonged to Frogner Manor.
The manor itself is located in what is now the park, and is currently the administrative office of Oslo Museum. The Frogner Baths and Frogner Stadium are also in the park grounds. The main attraction, though, is the Vigeland Installation (which is so popular that visitors often call this Vigeland Park, which is wrong. Locals don't call it this.
The park was created, more or less, in the mid-18th century. The Vigeland fountain and sculptures were all placed in the center of the park in the early 20th century.
Vigeland's works -- at least the sculptures here -- focus on the human condition and all its emotions. The most popular sculpture of his here is called Angry Boy. (I'll let you figure out which is these is the Angry Boy.)
This park -- mainly for the Vigeland works -- has made its way into pop culture, and not just in Norway. Among works that include the park in one way or another are:
The Doomsday Key is a book by James Rollins (U.S.). It's a series, and this is the sixth installation.
Elling is a Norwegian black comedy movie (2001) where one of the sex-obsessed characters admires the sculptures here with the main character.
Ian Watson's science fiction novel Mockymen has a scene here. Watson is a Brit living in Spain.
Irish singer-songwriter Eleanor McAvoy wrote a song called Vigeland's Dream that describes a walk in the park.
The State of the Art, a science fiction novel by Iain M. Banks (Scottish) also includes a walk in the park.
The park is the scene of a murder case in Norwegian author Jo Nesbo's The Leopard, also part of a series.
In the American series the Love Boat (the original with Ricardo Montalban, I believe), there was a two-episode special in which some of the crew visited the park and its sculptures.
Finally, the British movie the Snowman (2017) is a psychological thriller that has scened in the park.
To visit the park, it's easy. Quite a few buses stop by the front gate. It's not that far of a walk, if you're downtown. From the backside of Palace Park, it's barely 15 minutes through one of the posh neighborhoods of Oslo, so...makes for a nice walk (as I did this time around).
