We walked back to one of the viewpoints and could see into the canyon, our destination next day. It is up to 400 m deep and 8 km long and the walls are stuffed with fossils, including dinosaur tracks.
Mercantile Palace Bolzano
The Palazzo Mercantile - Merkantilgebäude (Mercantile Palace) was the ancient seat of the Mercantile Magistracy founded 1635 by the archduchess Claudia de‘ Medici as a court for the fair activities in Bolzano - Bozen.
The current building was built between 1708 and 1727 by the brothers Giovanni and Giuseppe Delai based on the plan by the Verona architect Francesco Perotti.
On the way back from the Brixner Hütte (2.307 m), multiple layers of rocks and slopes covered by larches frame the trail until the ancient village of Malga Fane where a great view embrace the valley. (South Tyrol, Italy)

Italian icecream from #Southtyrol, shouldn’t miss it. All the more at such a scorcher of a day where I was about to tackle the Stelvio afterwards. So I made a short break in the village of Glurns.

Italienisches Eis aus Südtirol - das sollte man nicht verpassen. Um so mehr an einem so heissen Tag wie dort, wo ich danach noch den Stelvio in Angriff nehmen wollte. Also machte ich eine kurze Pause in Glurns.
