Mother alligator coaxing one of her babies to join the others in the pod. I was watching as another alligator approached; the Mum eventually attacked the intruder - so protective. Cullinan conservation area, west of Houston, Texas. 3/9/23. Enlarge so the infant can be better seen in front of the mother's snout.
I've been following these young alligators for the past few weeks in the Cullinal Conservation Area. They are now moving away from the nest, and the mother, although always close by, is allowing them to explore further. I never realized how strong the mothering instinct is in alligators.

Lounging Lizard found on Lake Martin.
They're so used to the "swamp tours"......that they hardly bat an eye when boaters get pretty close.
Still....I'd rather be in a boat as opposed to a kayak.....
Happy Monday my friends.....& Many thanks for stopping by.
See Ya Later Alligator !
This gator and I were stalking the same egret - but for different reasons.

Even though it's a year old, this image grabbed my eye as I was plowing through one of my hard drives and I thought: Why didn't I upload this before?
The soft afterglow of the blue hour really appeals to me right now.
And anyway, it's one of my favorite views in New Mexico.
Alligator usually catch their meals at dusk or dawn, so, when I saw this one having a late breakfast I stood there and watched it consume this cooter. From what I could see, the cooter or slider turtle is male (judging from its long hind claws, which he uses to caress the female during copulation). I was not able to identify the cooter species. The alligator is an old acqaitance. If you seach for some of my other alligator photos, it is the one with all the babies crawling on her back and head. She is a prolific and caring mother, who protects her babies ferociously. You'll notice she is missing her right foot. She lost it to the male who attacked the nestlings and got away with a few.
Came across this alligator sunning himself on a boat trip. He has a fairly round belly, so likely after his lunch.
Small for sure but those teeth still look sharp. At Myakka River State Park, Florida.

Before the long flood of Paynes Prairie, brought on by Hurricane Irma in September 2017, this was a common scene. On our outings to the Prairie we used to make a game of counting gators. Our daughter once counted upwards of 160 gators on the opposite bank of this canal, never mind the ones on our side. How many can you count in this photo? Comments please.
This was taken during my short vacation to the shore this past October...Thank you very much for viewing my photo ! I truly appreciate any faves, comments and awards 🐊
