On the last day of the decade...

Salyx, coming down from the roof of one of the old byres (barns), having surveyed the immediate surroundings and the Valley, down the hill.

She is very sure-footed and sue of herself, but my heart is in my mouth every time I see her up so high!

“All along the watchtower...

Outside in the cold distance

A wildcat did growl

Two riders were approaching

And the wind began to howl.”

View on the watchtower on island Texel.

Texel is a municipality and an island in the province of North Holland (situated north of Den Helder) in the Netherlands. It is the largest and most populated island of the West Frisian Islands in the Wadden Sea.

The moment I saw this (I had been walking on the beach for some hours), it reminded me immediately of the song "All Along The Watchtower", lyrics by Bob Dylan and performed by Jimi Hendrix. Enjoy ;-))

ALL ALONG THE WATCHTOWER

There must be some kind of way outta here

Said the joker to the thief

There's too much confusion

I can't get no relief

Business men, they drink my wine

Plowman dig my earth

None were level on the mind

Nobody up at his word

Hey, hey

No reason to get excited

The thief he kindly spoke

There are many here among us

Who feel that life is but a joke

But, uh, but you and I, we've been through that

And this is not our fate

So let us stop talkin' falsely now

The hour's getting late, hey

All along the watchtower

Princes kept the view

While all the women came and went

Barefoot servants, too

Outside in the cold distance

A wildcat did growl

Two riders were approaching

And the wind began to howl

"There must be some kind of way out of here,"

Said the joker to the thief,

"There's too much confusion.

I can't get no relief."

Size of the frame: 5 cm / 1,9 inches

"There must be some kind of way outta here, said the handle to the sieve. There's too much mechanical stress, I can't get no relief..."

This, or something like that, could have been the conversation between my small strainer and its handle before they decided to part for good while I was draining chickpeas the other day ;-) While the sieve part of the strainer now enjoys some time off in the cupboard, where it patiently waits for some more unconventional sieving jobs, the handle enjoys its newly found freedom as part-time photomodel, pliers, clamp, hook - so many possibilities ;-) What you see in my photo is that part of the handle that had been spot-welded to the sieve. Half of the background is, you've guessed it, the sieve, and if you look closely, you can see the dents of the spot welding on the strainer's metal frame (the backside of it) right underneath the handle. I used a transparent red plastic box (it once contained chocolates) as a photo filter for my LED lamps to get some reddish light. The final image is composed of 5 photos, stacked in Helicon Focus, and processed in LR and Luminar 4.

For the fun of it, here are YouTube links both to Bob Dylan's 1967 original version of the song I borrowed (and modified) the first line of the lyrics from, and to Jimi Hendrix' iconic 1968 version of it:

A Happy Macro Monday, Everyone!

As I was working on this image, that title came to me. I knew it was a Bob Dylan song I had not heard for 45 years, so I looked up the lyrics, and sure enough, they are perfect for the universe shown here. Thank you, Bob :)))

The tower is over 30 meters high with the only doorway some 7 meters above ground level. The tower probably dates from the 10th century. The monastery was founded in the early 7th century.

Said the joker to the thief

All Along the Watchtower

The Desert View Watchtower, also known as the Indian Watchtower at Desert View, getting the last rays of the day.

The four-story structure, completed in 1932, was designed by American architect Mary Colter. It is located on the South Rim of the Grand Canyon and the tower was designed to resemble an Ancient Pueblo Peoples watchtower.

U.S. troops defend their jungle base camp against an ill timed Viet Cong ambush, while a routine supply drop off and a couple new grunts makes this task more than manageable for these seasoned jungle vets.

"There must be some way out of here," said the joker to the thief,

"There's too much confusion, I can't get no relief.

Businessmen, they drink my wine, plowmen dig my earth,

None of them along the line know what any of it is worth."

"No reason to get excited," the thief, he kindly spoke,

"There are many here among us who feel that life is but a joke.

But you and I, we've been through that, and this is not our fate,

So let us not talk falsely now, the hour is getting late."

All along the watchtower appeared on the 1967 album John Wesley Harding. It was probably made more famous by Hendrix who released the song six months after Dylan and it became a top 20 single.

The song has been described as a masterpiece of understatement. It only consists of three versus and no chorus but it is packed full of imagery, leaving you desperately wanting to know more about the story. And of course there is that haunting harmonica.

One of the most interesting things about this song is the way it has been constructed.

A literature professor suggests it "an example of Dylan's audacity at manipulating chronological time: "at the conclusion of the last verse, it is as if the song bizarrely begins at last, and as if the myth began again"

The song begins in the middle-

“There must be some kind of way out of here,

Said the joker to the thief"

and ends at the beginning

"All along the watchtower,

Princes kept the view,

While all the women came and went —

Barefoot servants too.

Outside in the cold distance,

A wildcat did growl.

Two riders were approaching, and The wind began to howl"

I'm going to let you work out what you think it is about!

I am not sure I did the song justice and may be able to do better. If so, I'll do a take two. But since my husband wore a cape and climbed the tower to be a prince (which he is), I should reward him for his effort and post this image.

As a kid I used to listen to Jimi Hendrix even when taking a shower. I had mounted a speakerset in the bathroom (my parents didn't mind) and my favorite album was "Live At The Isle Of Wight". This Bob Dylan cover by Jimi is brilliant I think.... Jimi just put something extra in it! All Along The Watchtower

Jimi helped my to free my mind and to meditate, I'm still thankfull for that.

This picture is dedicated to him....

Have a great weekend my friends!

Digital painting of Jimi Hendrix. About 3 hours in Photoshop.

Like ta' Rock that favorite quote from JimiHendrix: "When the Power of LOVE overcomes the Love of POWER, the world will know peace." Yop... (peace)... *T.M.NOEL/ ANGRYHOUZE/ Tha-God-of-DRAW!

I found this picture in between my older files...I took it on the same moment as this picture : www.flickr.com/photos/73673777@N00/207118068/

I always was in favour for the older one because the man was jumping on the concrete wall...I suppose because he just finished his camino de Santiago. Most pelgrims walk after their arrival in Santiago de Compostella towards Finisterre to look for St. James scallop on the beach of Finnistere and to burn their shoes on the 'Cabo Finisterre'. (If you check the other picture the man don't wear his shoes anymore...)

One minute later I took this picture of his girlfriend, when she was watching towards 'the end of the world'. It's a wonderful spot ! The view is awesome ! Hope you like this picture.

Rach going for a one-armed re-ascent.
