“I go back now and the stores are empty

Except an old Coke sign dated 1950

Boarded up like they never existed

Or renovated and called historic districts

There goes the little man, there goes the little man”. Alan Jackson. youtu.be/qBh-m1yTZS0?

I'd like to share a special song to go with this image..............

A digital manipulation of an image of the clock in our den.

I'm a country boy, I've got a 4-wheel drive

Climb in my bed, I'll take you for a ride

Up city streets, down country roads

I can get you where you need to go

'cause I'm a country boy...

Muffler men are large 14‘–25’ tall fiberglass sculptures that were made to promote businesses…the first figure was a Paul Bunyan character designed to hold an axe made in 1962 for the Lumberjack Café on Route 66 in Flagstaff, Arizona…Derivatives of that figure were widely used to hold full-sized car mufflers, tires, or other items for various roadside businesses…Thousands of them would be deployed in a little over a decade at a typical cost of $1000–$2800 each…It is unclear how many still exist today, scattered all over the country with California claiming at least 15…

Pour me somethin' tall an' strong

Make it a "Hurricane" before I go insane.

It's only half-past twelve but I don't care,

It's five o'clock somewhere!

Jeff

Well if I had money

Tell you what I'd do

I'd go downtown and buy a mercury or two

Crazy 'bout a mercury

Lord I'm crazy bout a mercury

I'm gonna buy me a mercury

And cruise it up and down the road...

When cars were made tough...

Take your string bikinis, your apple martinis

Take what's left there in the bank

Take your flat iron and your curlers

Your sparkling water and that damn perfume I never liked

Take your black Mercedes all that stuff for ladies

To me you're just a total blank,

Go on and leave me baby

I don't need you, I got

Jim and Jack and Hank...

Isle of Man

Where were you when the world stopped turning that September day

Teaching a class full of innocent children

Driving down some cold interstate

Did you feel guilty cause you're a survivor

In a crowded room did you feel alone

Did you call up your mother and tell her you love her

Did you dust off that bible at home

Did you open your eyes and hope it never happened

Close your eyes and not go to sleep

Did you notice the sunset the first time in ages

Speak with some stranger on the street

Did you lay down at night and think of tomorrow

Go out and buy you a gun

Did you turn off that violent old movie you're watching

And turn on "I Love Lucy" reruns

Did you go to a church and hold hands with some stranger

Stand in line and give your own blood

Did you just stay home and cling tight to your family

Thank God you had somebody to love

Just poetry on a plate...

Country singer Alan Jackson arriving in Palm Springs.

A Day of remembrance..........(9/11/2001)

Where were you when the world stopped turning that September day

Out in the yard with your wife and children

Working on some stage in LA

Did you stand there in shock at the site of

That black smoke rising against that blue sky

Did you shout out in anger

In fear for your neighbor

Or did you just sit down and cry

Did you weep for the children

Who lost their dear loved ones

And pray for the ones who don't know

Did you rejoice for the people who walked from the rubble

And sob for the ones left below

Did you burst out in pride

For the red white and blue

The heroes who died just doing what they do

Did you look up to heaven for some kind of answer

And look at yourself to what really matters

This song by Alan Jackson is amazing..listen in you have a second to "remember"

The modern neon sign for Alan Jackson's bar is located on Broadway in downtown Nashville.

Do you remember where you were and what you were doing when you learned of this horrible act of terrorism, and what your first thoughts were? I felt such disbelief that this could be happening and my first thoughts were of my family and to make sure they were safe. I just wanted to hear their voices and tell them how much I loved them............ Here is something from Alan Jackson which I think relates so well to this tragedy. I will tell you, it is a very emotional video, but something we must never forget.

Grand Ole Opry House

U.S. National Register of Historic Places

Ryman Auditorium was home to the Opry until 1974. By the late 1960s, National Life & Accident desired a new, larger, more modern home for the long-running radio show. Already 51 years old at the time the Opry moved there, the Ryman was beginning to suffer from disrepair as the downtown neighborhood around it fell victim to increasing urban decay. Despite these shortcomings, the show's popularity continued to increase, and its weekly crowds were outgrowing the 3,000-seat venue. The Opry's operators wanted to build a new air-conditioned theater, with greater seating capacity, ample parking, and the ability to serve as a television production facility. The ideal location would be in a less urbanized part of town to provide visitors with a safer, more controlled, and more enjoyable experience.[20]

National Life & Accident purchased farmland owned by a local sausage manufacturer (Rudy's Farm) in the Pennington Bend area of Nashville, nine miles east of downtown and adjacent to the newly constructed Briley Parkway. The new Opry venue was the centerpiece of a grand entertainment complex at that location, which later included Opryland USA Theme Park and Opryland Hotel. The theme park opened to the public on June 30, 1972,[21] well ahead of the 4,000-seat Opry House, which debuted nearly two years later, on Saturday, March 16, 1974.

Opening night was attended by sitting U.S. President Richard Nixon, who played a few songs on the piano.[22] To carry on the tradition of the show's run at the Ryman, a six-foot circle of oak was cut from the corner of the Ryman's stage and inlaid into center stage at the new venue.[23] Artists on stage usually stood on the circle as they performed, and most modern performers still follow this tradition.

The theme park was closed and demolished following the 1997 season, but the Grand Ole Opry House remains in use. The immediate area around it was left intact, even throughout the construction of Opry Mills, which opened in May 2000.

The Grand Ole Opry continues to be performed every Tuesday, Friday, and Saturday at the Grand Ole Opry House from March through November each year, and the site was added to the National Register of Historic Places on January 27, 2015.[24][25]

On December 21, 2018, the backstage band room was officially named the Jimmy Capps Music Room in honor of Capps's 60th anniversary on the Opry[26].

When I worked in Midtown Sacramento I used to take long photo walks on my lunch hour…about 10 blocks from my former office, Mercury Cleaners sat next door to Simon’s, which has a cool neon cocktail glass…every time I went to shoot them at night, Mercury would be off…so as I drove down the block tonight to check, I could tell from two blocks away that it was not turned on because all I could see was Simon’s cocktail glass…as I approached the site where Mercury Cleaners once stood, I was taken aback by a flashing arrow directly across the street…low and behold, Mercury Cleaners had moved across the street into a brand spanking new building and proudly had her fabulous old neon still intact…

I’m not big on videos being on Flickr but I had to make an exception…

Remember these old jukeboxes and some of the great music that you could listen to while having a meal?? The picture was created in Wombo Dream and the song was added in Camtasia...

Livin' on empty, lovin' on fumes

Trying to hold it all together with whiskey and glue

Like we've been on pause too long

Need to find the resume

Livin' on empty, lovin' on fumes...

Though I have never owned a Mini Cooper I know several friends that do and they really enjoy them. I'd like to give one a spin.

This is the Mini Cooper Countryman a four door model that sits a little higher off the ground and has more room in the cabin. This model is decked out in the John Cooper Works package making it a little more sporty.

These Mini's may be a little bitty but I think that they pack a lot of fun into them.

The John Cooper Works is a derivative of the Cooper S ALL4 version of the Countryman, with increased engine power to 218 PS (160 kW; 215 hp) and 280 N⋅m (207 lb⋅ft) with over boost: 300 N⋅m (221 lb⋅ft). Steering, suspension, wheels and appearance have also been modified.[27] It was unveiled at the 2012 International Geneva Motor Show, and went on sale in autumn 2012.

Mini (stylized as MINI) is a British automotive marque, owned by BMW since 2000, and used by them for a range of small cars. The word Mini has been used in car model names since 1959, and in 1969 it became a marque in its own right when the name "Mini" replaced the separate "Austin Mini" and "Morris Mini" car model names. BMW acquired the marque in 1994 when it bought Rover Group (formerly British Leyland), which owned Mini, among other brands.

Ray (Rex Bob Lowenstein) works in a small yet Tardis like used record shop in Manchester's Bohemian Nothern Quarter. Their vast array specializes in well mostly everything and you are always greeted on first named terms with a smile and friendly northern banter. It is a refuge of sanity from the ubiquitous bland polished glass and bling chromed malls I only hope when this virus passes that the small shops that give a place it's unique individual charm and character survive.

"He lives for his job and he accepts his pay

You can call and request ‘Lay Lady Lay'

He'll play Stanley Jordan, The ‘Dead and Little Feat

And he'll even play the band from the college down the street

And his name is Rex Bob Lowenstein

He's forty-seven, goin' on sixteen

His request line's open, but he'll tell you where to go

If you're dumb enough to ask him why he plays Hank Snow"

Nashville is the capital and most populous city of the U.S. state of Tennessee. The city is the county seat of Davidson County and is located on the Cumberland River. It is the 23rd most-populous city in the United States.

Named for Francis Nash, a general of the Continental Army during the American Revolutionary War, the city was founded in 1779. The city grew quickly due to its strategic location as a port on the Cumberland River and, in the 19th century, a railroad center. Nashville seceded with Tennessee during the American Civil War; in 1862 it was the first state capital in the Confederacy to fall to Union troops. After the war, the city reclaimed its position and developed a manufacturing base.

Since 1963, Nashville has had a consolidated city-county government, which includes six smaller municipalities in a two-tier system. The city is governed by a mayor, a vice-mayor, and a 40-member metropolitan council; 35 of the members are elected from single-member districts, while the other five are elected at-large. Reflecting the city's position in state government, Nashville is home to the Tennessee Supreme Court's courthouse for Middle Tennessee, one of the three divisions.

A major center for the music industry, especially country music, Nashville is commonly known as "Music City". It is also home to numerous colleges and universities, including Tennessee State University, Vanderbilt University, Belmont University, Fisk University, Trevecca Nazarene University, and Lipscomb University, and is sometimes referred to as "Athens of the South" due to the large number of educational institutions. Nashville is also a major center for the healthcare, publishing, private prison, banking, automotive, and transportation industries. Entities with headquarters in the city include Asurion, Bridgestone Americas, Captain D's, CoreCivic, Dollar General, Hospital Corporation of America, LifeWay Christian Resources, Logan's Roadhouse, and Ryman Hospitality Properties.

Rockingham County Fair - Harrisonburg, Virginia

I went to see country music legend Alan Jackson at the 2013 Rockingham County Fair. Great show by a great guy. A true remnant of real country music. 35 #1 hit singles and more than 50 Top-10 hits. He has written or co-written 24 of those 35 #1 hit singles. Impressive.

I really like how they used bits of old B&W cowboy movies in it.

He looks so young in this video. Damn, I'm gettin' old I guess. Time marches on.
