Rock Of Ages.
Behind every image or scene there is a story, sometimes we can perhaps interpret that story and other times we can only speculate.
This monument depicts a female reaching up to grasp the Cross which has the inscription Rock Of Ages.
We can only wonder the story behind this scene.
Rock of Ages, cleft for me,
Let me hide myself in Thee;
Let the water and the blood,
From Thy wounded side which flowed,
Be of sin the double cure;
Cleanse me from its guilt and power.
Augustus M. Toplady, 1776.

Coming of Age
It’s a roll of the dice heading out with a partly cloudy weather forecast, because I always prefer clouds to a cloudless sky, but then you never know if it’s going to be too “partly”. Today is mostly too partly, but from time to time a sweeping wave of light rolls over the ridges. You can watch its progress as skylights open and then close to pinch off the momentary brilliance. The flanks of mountains on the east side of the lake brighten in unison with my own, the shine catching surfaces all around me for a precious few before moving on. I wonder if the canopy has an instant photosynthesis, if the glow is reaction on a subatomic level rather than just the reflection of a trillion leaves. In the life cycle of autumn, what I’m looking at would be the coming of age stage, adolescent colors with a short time window before the rusty dormancy of winter. Colors suggest the seasons to us, and then we anthropomorphize the seasons to define where we are in life. I tell myself I’m not going to play that game...there are deeper aches than the aches of age. Those of plans unfulfilled, sunsets missed, certainly the ache of loves lost. Mind dumps, better left where they were cached...or is it that I can better confront them after all this time? For now I’ll stop my clock for a while and watch the light ebb and flow.
The Golden Age of Radio, 1920s through the 1950s. What excitement is must have been to gather the Family around the Fire Place and the Radio and listen to Old Time Radio Shows and the Greats that came out of Vaudeville that ended up being our 1950's TV Entertainers. Long Live Radio :)

Granite boulder fields of the Alabama Hills west of Lone Pine, California in the eastern Sierra Nevada. I used a lichen-covered granite boulder at dawn to lead your eye to the radiant peaks in the background (Lone Pine Peak is the dimpled mountain on the left and Mt. Whitney is the spired peaks almost dead center.
An ancient Limber Pine (Pinus flexilis) growing on the slopes of Sheep Mountain above South Park, Colorado. The girth of this tree suggests it is over a thousand years old- others at this site have been dated to over 2000 years old.

I had an opportunity to work very closely with a large number of people in DIFFERENT AGES. Some were YOUNG, but some were OLD. I love to remember the amazing experience that I had. However, I am sorry to hear some of them are DEAD now.

Recently I made one of my regular visits to London's National Gallery, to the Rembrandts. I sat in front of one particular late self portrait for some time, painted in the year before the artist died. After a while, two young men stood and quite knowledgeably discussed the painting, saying how photography never does such works justice. Then one remarked on the sadness in the face, saying that as an old man without money you would expect him to look this way, sad and regretful....
Well, I piped up, he was the same age as I am now when he painted this, and I should tell you that I see more than those things in his face, much more, but then you'd need the 63 years to understand that.

Birding was a bust so I naturally turned to a dead weed. I wanted to hit this with f/2.8, but removing the TC at the beach and with no covers on hand was not going to happen. In the BG are rosa rugosa bushes and other pretty things in early fall plumage.

A broken-down wheel barrow sits outside one of the old buildings in Bodie, California. I kind of liked the expanding gables of the home, giving it an almost whimsical or cartoon look, so I made no attempt to correct the wide-angle distortion.

The Ice Sheet covered Scandinavia 20 000 years ago. When it slowly withdrew, it etched tracks in the granite (as it contained harder rocks), still very visible today. This is really "written in stone".

The aging process can really be so beautiful and graceful. This orchid reminds me of that.

Potential location for future photoshoot?
I just really liked the old look and feel of this place. Very cool.
With 130+ cars in tow on a rainy October afternoon, the JR-5 begins to make their double in Oak Island with some added horsepower on the head end to assist the regularly assigned 1700/3429 combo. SD70IAC 1218 was built in November of 2019 for Norfolk Southern, and is assisting SD45-2 1700 (built 1972 for the EL) and SD40-2 3429 (built 1966 for KCS). Talk about an age gap.
