I'm on my time with everyone
I have very bad posture
Sit and drink Pennyroyal Tea
Distill the life that's inside of me
Sit and drink Pennyroyal Tea
I'm anemic royalty
Give me a Leonard Cohen afterworld
So I can sigh eternally
I'm so tired I can't sleep
I'm a liar and a thief
Sit and drink Pennyroyal Tea
I'm anemic royalty
I'm on warm milk and laxatives
Cherry-flavored antacids
Sit and drink Pennyroyal Tea
Distill the life that's inside of me

This is Vatican City. Another shot from my studies in Rome. I guess it comes off a little creepy, I was just intending powerful....I really am more of a "sunny" person than a moody person, but my work doesn't always come across that way! :) Have a nice Thursday friends!

GREEN EYES – KATE WOLF
Do not be so quick to judge
it is not for us to know the Hand of God
all will be revealed in His good time
until such time be patient; humbly nod
and bow your head and raise your hands in prayer
fingers pointing to the Heavenly realm
the Golden gate that stands atop the stairs
where forgiveness lies stand tall and strong as elms
wipe away the self-pitying scalding tears and rise
to high above the mortal world of fears
and know that you will be forgiven
and love immortal will shine brightly through your tears
life is a funny thing there is no doubt
except the seeds of doubt that others sow
and when they harvest even through the drought
of loveless hearts and blackened souls I know
that God is all and all is love; forgiveness
is given those who sin and those who lie
I do not believe in an afterworld of darkness
when the smallest light remains in all who die
for that tiny spark can be fanned back to life
and burn as brightly as any shining star
even those who seem to live in darkness
can find their way back though they must travel far
I am not all sweetness but I am human
and try to do the best in life I can
but still I fall and still I long for wisdom
to be much better and help my fellow man
even when the darkness looms above me
and past mistakes still find me in the dark
I pray and listen to my soul and conscience
I do not pick at scabs like peeling bark
forgive, forget and rise above the trivia
there are bigger and better things that lie afoot
we are just specks and live here but a moment
but our immortal souls live on and tenderfoot
we grow; expand our minds and hearts and souls
in each exciting new and wondrous incarnation
tiny fragments of our previous lives
seep through and waken us with exaltation
it's nice to think that we will never die
although this body will one day cease to be
and some of you may scoff and not believe it
but that is the beautiful challenge that you set me
I try to change your mind in subtle ways
with words and pictures, songs and quotes and then
if still you do not believe my long meanderings
I do not feel defeated but try again …

Thanks for visiting. I am very grateful for the very kind comments and faves. Please, if you do not have time to read my poetry I understand and am always grateful for your faves and appreciation of my pictures x
Enjoy a very happy week, dear friends <3
Actually I am very sorry that yesterday I left comments and faves with several friends before I went for my scan and found they had been wiped, so today I try to rectify, but fear I have not redeemed myself entirely! : 0( Today it is still hard to post replies and comments and faves "pop" out. If I notice I will redo! Sometimes I really dislike the technical glitches of Flickr!!!!!

From Prince's lyrics "Let's Go Crazy". He was a masterful performer and one of the best....he is missed. ❤
Dearly beloved
We are gathered here today
To get through this thing called life
Electric word life
It means forever and that's a mighty long time
But I'm here to tell you
There's something else
The afterworld
A world of never-ending happiness
You can always see the sun, day or night
So when you call up that shrink in Beverly Hills
You know the one Dr. Everything'll Be Alright
Instead of asking him how much of your time is left
Ask him how much of your mind, baby
'Cause in this life
Things are much harder than in the afterworld
In this life
You're on your own
And if the elevator tries to bring you down
Go crazy - punch a higher floor

Holly, the Ancestor, a Day of the Dead portrait. Every year I enjoy a creative project around the Day of the Dead, my favorite cosplay holiday. So when I saw how my new infrared camera performed, I was eager to use it for this year's effort. It takes a bit of a play on the traditional with a real ghostly look (provided by infrared), and a "Whatever Dreams May Come" treatment to give it an afterworld feel. This Day of the Dead portrait of Holly C. Ahrens was taken in my backyard using one single strobe light, a flower crown, and makeup by Jessie Campbell.

It was always quiet when night fell over the remains of what once a busy city. Now, hundreds of years later, when night fell, those creatures that had survived the apocalypse vanished into their Caves and hideouts. They knew it was best to get off the streets, to pretend they don't exist anymore. Because what night brought, the silence that lowered itself over the city like a dark veil, was worse than all the dangers the afterworld had to offer. Thoughts like Thunder, exploding in the mind. A pressing silence that burrowed itself into ones head , nagging, scratching on the brain, causing an unbearable pain. Christian clenched his fists as he slowly walked through his makeshift laboratory. The sun had set and the darkness came..the cold and the silence with it. He already felt it, deep inside his head, right behind his eyes. Facing another, Long night in which he Always saw her...heard her voice. Not coming from her bones that he had digged out with his own Hands in his desperation but from another place. One he would never be able to visit. He had no right to be there. And she mocked him. She mocked him because he was where he belonged. In Hell.

In ancient Egypt, Anubis was a jackal-headed deity who presided over the embalming process and accompanied dead kings in the afterworld. When kings were being judged by Osiris, Anubis placed their hearts on one side of a scale and a feather on the other.
Polihale Beach. Incoming storm. He is deeply transfixed. Considered the western most point in the US, although Nihau, the forbidden Island lies further west. You can feel the spirits here.
from Wikipedia:
"This beach is said to have a strong basis in Hawaiian mythology.
Unofficially, Polihale has been incorrectly translated in many instances as the "House of the Po", where Po is the Hawaiian afterworld.
By this account, spirits are said to travel to the coastal plain adjacent to the beach, and stay in the temple, known as the heiau. From there, they would climb the cliffs to the north, jump off into the sea to get to the mythical Po.
The story further indicates that this belief was so strong that all the homes built in the vicinity of Polihale would have had no east facing doors, so that no traveling spirit could become trapped within."
My visit to one of the outlying structures in the Chaco Canyon complex, followed by a trip to Valley of Dreams (VoD) a few nights later got me to wondering what the people who lived there a thousand years ago thought of these strange and bizarre rock formations.
One of the features of the Chaco complex is the North Road, a 30 foot wide road that goes directly north from Pueblo Alto for almost 40 miles, and ends near the Salmon Ruins west of Bloomfield, New Mexico. Construction of this road required enormous effort. The builders had no shovels, axes, or wheelbarrows, no surveying equipment. When they encountered an obstacle, such as a mesa cliff, instead of going around it, they built steps into the face or perhaps constructed ladders, and continued in the same direction.
No one knows why these wide thoroughfares, now all but obliterated by the ravages of time, were built. They had no wheeled vehicles. It has been conjectured that the afterworld was believed to lie to the north, and the road was a path that dead souls could follow. The road was also used for processions of unknown purpose. It is littered with pottery shards.
The road passes through or very close to VoD, the Ahshislepah Primitive Study Area, a formation known as King of Wings, and the Bisti and Angel Peak badlands. Petrified wood is abundant, and dinosaur bones have been found in these areas. Pilgrims would have had to see these strange rocks and formations. There is no evidence that they stopped or had ceremonies there. Maybe they were so focused on a quest that these rocks and formations were not even noticed, unimportant parts of the landscape.
Nobody knows.

I went to the beach determined not to get wet. I wore somewhat waterproof shoes, but was adamant about keeping them dry. I had scouted out a spot to shoot for sunset earlier, but literally about 10 minutes before the sunset, I chickened out and decided that the composition I had settled on was no good. Like a chicken with its head cutoff, I started running up and down the beach frantically trying to find a spot to set up. I found this nice shiny rock that was reflecting the colors of the sky quite nicely, so I decided to try and work it into the composition. Unfortunately, this rock was surrounded by water, and any images of it from the dry sand were pretty crappy. I wasn't going home empty handed, so I rolled up the jeans and trudged through the ocean to set up on top of this rock. As cold as the water was, I'd say it was worth the sandy shoes. :)
Dark cloaked shadow-men patrol the wilderness of the Afterworld, roaming around on their tall artificial mounts. Swiftly rushing trough the densest of the forests, zig-zagging on the streets of the dead cities, they're only vulnerable to the Vultures of the Plain, out in the endless grassfields, where the Insectmen rule.
Black Rock is a massive piece of basalt standing in the coral lagoon of Rarotonga. It is located on the north side of the island and is an evidence of Rarotongas volcanic source/origin.
A legend says that this rock marks the departure point where the spirit of the dead make their way back to their homeland/afterworld (known as Avaiki).

I felt an unsettling sense of connection with this frightful Halloween decoration the moment I laid eyes upon it. As these things go, they are often over the top in terms of being ghastly, blood-soaked and monstrous. While certainly ghoulish, this small figure seemed to capture an overwhelming sense of pathos in a very relatable human form. The softness of facial features juxtaposed against the vacant eyes. The look of a little girl playing dress-up with inexpertly applied makeup and a party dress, but horribly conflicted with the awful hair and balding scalp. These subtleties and juxtapositions are what make this so terrifying. Creations such as Frankenstein and Dracula are almost humorous by comparison. Perhaps because they've been so overdone over the years I've become immune to them. But it's also because their inhuman qualities add a layer of safe distance. This figure is relatable in the sense that the human qualities remain, cleverly blended in with the a dark vision of the afterworld. It is imbued with the qualities I imagine a real ghost would exhibit. I can just imagine an encounter with something like this in the many dark and lonely places I've explored, completely alone. I saw so many overtly horror-filled displays the day I found this sad little urchin, but they are mostly lost to me now. Only this figure remains in my mind, and I've got a feeling it will be there long after Halloween has passed.
