An Ogden's Guinea Gold cigarette card featuring a 1904 photograph of ballerina Adeline Genée.
[Dame] Adeline Genée was born in Aarhus, Denmark on 6th Jan 1878 and died in London, England on 23rd April 1970.
Her debut was with her uncle's touring company at the age of ten in Christiania.
In 1895 she became the principal dancer of the Royal Danish Ballet in Copenhagen and in 1896 she danced with the Berlin Royal Opera Ballet and the Munich Opera Ballet.
She danced the role of Swanilda in the British premiere of Coppélia at the Empire Theatre on 14th May 1906.
On 3rd Dec 1912 she made her debut at New York's Metropolitan Opera with a program of divertissements.
Her last performance was on 15th March 1933 and was for the early television service of the BBC [partnered by Anton Dolin] broadcast by the Baird process.
She was founder President of the Association of Teachers of Operatic Dancing of Great Britain [Royal Academy of Dance].
I received word that 472 was by Kittredge and would be meeting a 687 at Adeline. I made it to Adeline about 15 minutes before 472 came into view. The gray KCS SD70ACe was a nice addition to the pair of Pacmans.
